Game starts up black screen, nothing else...

I installed the game and immediatly applied the 1.1 patch. When I double-click the icon to start the game, it immediatly goes to a black screen with nothing else. If I let it sit or try to alt-tab out of it, the game crashes to desktop with no error message. The demo worked with no problems whatsoever.

Here are my system specs:

Soyo KT400 Dragon Ultra mobo
AMD Athlon XP 2800+
1GB PC 3300 DDR-RAM
Geforce FX 5900 Ultra 256mb
Western Digital WD1000JB 100gb Hard drive w/ 8mb cache
Windows XP Pro

Any help on solving this problem would be appreciated...

Exact same problem here mate.
Did the same thing as you (with the patch)

My guess is that we have to run DXIW without the patch first.....I bet there is some sort of installation finishing off to be done or something...
I'm gonna try a reinstall....while making toast

I'll let you know how I get on!

Yep, that was it, here's what i did:

uninstalled
reinstalled
started up the game (worked fine)
started a new game, saved
exit to desktop
installed patch
re-entered the game (worked fine)
loaded saved game
Was amazed that the storyline is deeper than ever already!!!

I just ran repair off the install disk......worked fine after that.

It worked for me as well,

Reinstall
Start up game
Exit
Install patch
Game starts fine

You guys didn't happen to activate run in compatibility mode for windows 2000 ?
When I did that with 1.1 installed, I got a black screen and nothing else.
