Default black screen and lost bios data
Hi everybody, please can anybody helps me?
I have Gforce4 PCI 64Mb running in a Athlon 1.1Ghz. My onboard video cant be disabled so I let it enable working as secundary, while Geforce is primary card.
The game is running well, but sometimes (not allways) when I click RUN my PC crash with a black screen and my machine loose some information of the SETUP BIOS !!!! so , when it happens, I must adjust again the date, time, etc !!!
I dont understand how can the game affect my bios setup and why sometimes it happens, sometimes no ( I have sound, FMV, good framerate, everything is fine)
I have already installed all the patches and I test all possible combinations in the settings section. What else could I do to solve this?
Did this problem happen with someone more?

GeForce4 PCI, eh? Didn't know they build them.

Does this only happen when you play this game?

Check if that onboard videocard appears in the game settings. If it does, disable it in the game settings.

You also might want to check if that onboard graphic chip can be disabled with jumper settings on the motherboard.

Yep, it only occours in this game , I still play all the tomb raider series including the all the gold ones.

Unfortunely, there is no jumper to disable my on board video, it remains always active as secundary, but I am not sure that this is the problem.

In my setup there is an option called "shared memory video" and it is set to the minimun permitted value: 8Mb.
(I have 256Mb of RAM)

In the settings, my on board video do not appears, only Geforce 4.

Only this game corrupts my setup bios... I am very curious why it happens sometimes, but till now I could not solve...

When your computer crashes, apparently it loads the BIOS Setup defaults on the next startup. See if you can find a setting which determines the behaviour in case of crash... Also, have you checked the Integrated Peripherals menu in the BIOS, the onboard video can be disabled there on some motherboards. If you can't, this maybe means that your motherboard will only disable it when an AGP card is inserted.

Thanks for the reply CyCro,

In my setup, the onboard video cant be disabled and the motherboard do not have an AGP slot, that's why I install a PCI GForce4

There is no option in the setup about loading thefaults in case of crash and this simptom is not the same all the time . I mean, sometimes I loose date and time, sometimes I loose some onboard peripheral "enable" or "disable" feature. The changes in the setup are not the same every crash

I have Windows 98 and XP in the same machine and the same simptom happens in both versions of Windows. I have tried to install an old PCI GEFORCE2 card and, still then, the problem persist so I return to my GEFORCE4.

I am playing the game, but sometimes happens the crash and I loose some alleatory information on SETUP.

And Why it happens only with this game and not the others Tomb Raider series?

Is it possible that the game is allocating some memory that is reserved for the onboard video? but if it happens, why the crash delete aleatory information on the bios setup?
My motherboard Is a baby AT 812LMR (a old one, but it is working fine with my athlon 1.1 processor)

I suggest that you go to http://www.pcchips.com.tw/M812LMR.html and see if you have the latest drivers for the motherboard, and update the BIOS if necessary. Also, you didn't mention if you have the latest drivers for the video card, so if you don't have them, get them at http://www.nvidia.com.

The problem might not be with the onboard video at all. And no, if the memory is statically locked for the onboard video, it can't be accessed by other applications. Gppd luck.

Thanks again.... but is it really necessary to update my bios?
I am affraid to have a problem and lost my computer in case of problem during this update and I dont have money to buy a new PC ...

I play all the tomb raider series and never get any problem, only with AOD it happens.
I have already downloaded the new driver from NVIDIA but it did not solve my problem and , addicionaly, the frame rate becomes a little slow than before, so I returned to the drivers from the original CD that comes with my Geforce4.

Updating the BIOS could add functionality or fix various problems with the BIOS and the way it behaves. If you are unsure how to flash it, then better don't do it. Even though you wouldn't lose your computer or any data, it would become hard to restore it in a working state in case of a failure. You can update the motherboard drivers though. The only way of fixing a problem is trying all means one by one until it's solved.

Default Lost bios data :( :( :( Help please!!!
Until today I could not find anything that I could do to solve my problem...

Sometimes playing TRAOD the game crash and I loose BIOS data (including date, time, etc) and I have to reconfigure everything again and again, save and exit (f10 at bios setup) and enter the game again.

I have all Tomb raider series, it ONLY ocours in TRAOD (all another games are fine)

please anybody have the same problem that me?????
please please help !!!!

Any high level tech tip? please help me friends..

Now I found a place where my problem is really critical. It is at Bio-Research Facility, in the place where we found water with a strange animal swimming and some stairs.

At this place, I cant even turn around!! If I turn 180 degrees, the game crash and I lost date, hour, time in my bios setup!!!
It must have something with the video screen rotating when I turn
(maby the information exchanged between the video card and RAM memory (textures place at the RAM - MY PCI card have only 64 MB onboard so.. I dont know....
Sometimes it seems to hapen when the camera behind lara touch the wall if I rotate to see what is behind me, but it can be just a false alarm, I really dont know why my game is crashing...

Any tech idea? please anybody helps me if possible ... any tip could be usefull for me, I dont know more what to do.....

You could try to disable the onboard graphic in the Windows device manager. Maybe that helps already.

Have you updated your graphic card driver? You should.

Do you know anyone who could help you updating your BIOS?
