Default Study shows: Video games enhance visual perception!

Interesting if true...ARTICLE.

Might help explain why I got an apparently-rare 100% rating in several catagories when getting my eyes tested recently. The optometrist had me do the tests twice to be sure it was true...

I have to mail that link to my dad!
Games have always been frowned upon in this house.
Does this mean that if I had played more games as a kid, I wouldn't have to use reading glasses today???? Hmmmm...

I have played video games since the mid 70's - so how come I need my glasses to read that article?

Hmm...I have fairly bad distance vision and have to wear contacts or glasses, staticon, but in my recent eye exam I tested perfect in some depth perception and peripheral vision tests, with and without lenses.

I think it is just like anything that you practice often enough (free throws...FPS deathmatch...whatever) you will tend to become better at it (swish!). Playing certain types of games develop 'twitch-reflexes' and probably over time stimulate certain neural pathways in the brain, leading to quicker reactions to certain stimuli. Of course, staring at monitors can give some people siezures, make some people sick and over time probably leads to...needing stronger glasses .

All in all, another minute step in the ongoing evolution of our species.

Must admit to feeling sick like that sometimes when playing first person perspective games after around an hour, but I have a 19" monitor and perhaps sit a little to close to it anyway.

I must agree with the article, I've played this type of game since the first Doom came out and and find my general visual focus to be spot on. I can track a fly buzzing around the room without any problem.................. My next job will be chief fly spotter I think; you reckon there might be a post for me out there somewhere?

Makes sense. It exercising for the eyes. (and mind)
One keeps healthy by exercising regularly.
Think of it like this:
Reading is like walking or jogging.
Gaming is like heavy duty aerobics.

That explains it. I usually have three monitors running so I must have reached this stage three times faster.

BTW - I am long sighted and have now reached the stage that, to see the monitor clearly, I have to sit so far away that I can't see the monitor.
