Selecting Items

Would someone kindly tell me how to pick an item to use? I know how to access the general weapons ... but what if I want to use a bomb? I can't get that section to highlight for selection like I can for the regular inventory. Probably missing an easy step but can't quite get it through the concrete between my ears.

If the item you want is in the top left hand box when you select inventory view, just use the left arrow key to get to that box, then you can scroll up and down.

However, with items like bombs, you can't use them until you are at the appropriate place. For example, one of the missions lets you blow up a car - when you approach the car, the option to place the bomb will appear automatically, and you can select it then. You can't just use the bomb on anything you choose.

Thanks, thought I should be able to do that but doesn't work ... guess now I have to figure out why.
Am in basement of prison, have rescued hostage, went into room and it says close enough to place bomb ... but no can do.
Any suggestions anyone?

In that mission, you must drop it on the floor, near the wall. So, after pulling that bomb out, just press "drop item" key. I forget which key that was by default but you should be able to see that in options->controls.

Again, thanks ... the trouble is I can't get the arrow keys to work in order to 'select' the bomb.
Everything else works as it should ... but can't get the left-hand inventory to work.

Try a,s,d,w keys instead of arrow keys. Also check if the keys are properly configured in the controls setup.
That doesn't work, try using quick inventory.
You press and hold [Q], then use directional keys or mouse scrollwheel to select desired item. Then release [Q] to pull it out.
