Freeze - spinning logo

So I get outside arkham for the first time, and 2 steps forward, the game freezes, and a spinning batman logo is running in the lower right hand corner of the screen. What does that icon mean? Any ideas on how I can fix whatever is causing the game to freeze in this condition? Thanks in advance.

The bat logo either can mean the game is loading or saving
