crash and WEIRD fix

DXHR, has been crashing on me since day one, and I have already posted as such in the big crash and freeze thread.

Now I don't know if this has been posted before, and excuse me if it has, but in my case the game suffered from unbearable CTD, where I cannot advance past Megan's at the beginning of the game. But I read somewhere that disabling the Internet Explorer Proxy settings would fix this, and lo and behold after two weeks of constant CTD's, no apparent fix and great frustration, it worked and managed to advance a great deal in the game.

Problem is I cannot access the internet without those settings, I know I can turn them on and off easily, that is not the point, the point is does anyone know the correlation between these crashes and the IE proxy?
