Cannot install game

Hello everyone. I tried searching for similar issues and cannot find anything adequate. I purchased the retail version of the game a week ago and only just had time to install today.

I launched my steam client and activated the cd-key through steam. Go to install the game, verify space requirements, and everything stalls at "converting existing game installation. This may take several minutes." message. After an hour, no progress. My Client is up-to-date.

I attempted to install from the DVD, and the DVD appears to have been mis-mastered and comes up blank in my system.

I am running Windows-7 64-bit, with core i7 and Sapphire eyefinity Radeon HD 5880 gpu.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Update, placed the disc into my other dvd drive and the disc mounts ok, so not sure what was going on before, maybe it was conflicting with the open steam client or not, will try to install from disc next.
