Some say it's made to build up hype for a new MK game which will be announced in the next E3, while others say it's from a new movie.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_MqZn7E-mk What do you think? Some fans find it blasphemous to make a MK movie which doesn't follow the canon and reinterpret alien characters like Reptile and Baraka as psychotic and deformed humans, but personally I think it will be very interesting to finally see a violent and serious video game adaptation, instead of the two disappointing Mortal Kombat attempts in 90's (first one was okay though), not to mention all those horrible VG movies of Uwe Boll. |

I loved the "trailer". Sure they've changed some of the characters in terms of style (well, everyone who was shown in the clip) and Jax's name is now "Jacks", but compared to the other videogame adaptations we've seen it does look promising... if it is a film that is.
A page for a Mortal Kombat film with a scheduled 2013 release has shown up on IMDB which is quite interesting. Also I've noticed that in the page's forum section there's a few articles claiming that it's in fact a film or that it's just a film pitch to see if Warner Bros. (who now own Midway) would like it. Actually I've noticed that there's more news stating that it's going to be a film rather than a game; personally I think the game rumour came in place because we're so close to E3, so it's quite easy to just say "oh, it's going to be an announced game"... but surely they would have kept the possibility of a new game a secret up until the actual event? (I'm waffling, aren't I? Sorry!). Oh and I actually like the first MK film, like you said it's pretty okay and I must say that it's fun to watch. That and the soundtrack was pretty great! |

Well it looks cool. I have no speakers here at work (
) so I'll have to give it a listen when I get out of here. Can't go wrong with Michael Jai White, IMO. I really like the Saw feel of it too. ![]() Thanks for sharing!

I know, but on his office's door they've changed his nickname of "Jax" to "Jacks" (by rubbing of the "on" from Jackson) I know they're pronounced the same but still, I just wanted to be nitpicky about it (but it kinda backfired on me). Hehe, sorry. ^.^;
Oh! I've just heard that Jeri Ryan who's Sonya in this clip has confirmed that it's just a pitch for a MK movie, so a movie and/or a game isn't in production...yet. Here's the quote- "It's not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film." |

![]() It's not to be watched before bed time, i've heard it gives you nightmares ![]() Honestly, i'll probably have to watch it, then have to moan about it afterwards.....mabee i should stick to playing the origional 3 games on my psp. But for the life of me i can't imagine for a second this film will be anything other than a cheese fest with no budget and no script....and no acting talent.... I'd like to be proved wrong though

Here ya go:
Beat me to the punch, pha. ![]() Hope it gets picked up,looks frikkin' awesome. But why in the hell does Johnny Cage always die so damn fast?Give the guy a break will ya? lol But dig the feel,it's Chris Nolan's ultra-realism in Batman meets Se7en meets Mortal Kombat, which makes me think it'd be sweet. Oh,and I think that Chris Nolan should do with Killer Croc what this guy did with Reptile in the next Batman movie.

Loving the fatality at the end, that's gotta sting! I didn't know whether to feel Sub Zero's pain or laugh like a maniac. *Evil grin* I'm also glad they decided to show the Pit stage (which looks like the one from Mortal Kombat II) in the trailer.

I've just read two articles about the Mortal Kombat film explaining how and why it was made; who'd have thought it was made by the director of the Fame remake who only had a budget of $7500 to make the short/trailer?
The truth behind that Mortal Kombat short film revealed Interview with MORTAL KOMBAT: REBIRTH Director Kevin Tancharoen. Also seeing as it's technically a fan-made trailer (because none of the game creators or the people who own the rights to MK knew he was creating it) I guess we won't be seeing a feature film like this any time soon; but hopefully Warner Bros. will see all the positive feedback and let this guy create a new MK film. You can tell that he definitely knows a lot about the series. |

It isn't a fan-film,it's a pitch for Warner,I thought.

As stated in the new news, Warner Bros. (who owns both Midway and New Line Cinema, who each own the game and film rights) didn't actually know he was making the short; it was shot in two days on two camera's he borrowed from someone else. Also it should be noted that he edited the short and special effects himself. So although he is a professional director, this short is technically a fan-made film.
He does however have ideas for a full feature film if he ever has the chance to make one, but for now we just have the short to watch. |

At first I thought this was a Wes Craven film. Then the next saw, in short it had me guessing, but when Sonya Blade(Blaze as Jai White said) I was like wha!?
I was a bit surprised, at the casting, they fit so well. Jeri Ryan looks the part, my question is though, "Can she Fight?" "At all?" Also surprising was the budget, that in no ways looks $7,500 worth, it is up to par with big budget trailers. "And if that is what he can do with $7,500 just imagine what he could do with several thousand or million dollars?" What I don't get, is the nitpicking of fans about the deviation from cannon storyline. Removing "Outworld's" relevance and such. If they would read the interview with Tancheron, they would understand that he wants to bring in Outworld mysticism tastefully and slowly, perhaps a cliffhanger at the end of the film. Which I found a welcomed change for some reason. For me this Pitch film, is a Max Payne meets Saw and Street fighter. Which would give the audience the essence of what Mortal Kombat is sorta about without boring them. Kinda...

Jeri Ryan fought in a Gladiator-type-Death-Match episode of Voyager. I can't remember the name right now. I think she was kicking the crap out of things in other episodes of the show, as well, being a badass Borg, and all. I believe she's done fight scenes in quite a few other things as well.

I hate the portrayal of Reptile. What Jax says is pretty much "this freak should have died in infancy", and it's implied Reptile's condition influenced his psychopatic behavior. Now, harlequin ichtyosis is a real condition, and it is possible to survive it way beyond infancy. Imagine how a girl like Nelly would feel watching the film.

I'm late to the party but the ''new mk'' pitch that was made to hollywood with that ''re-imagining'' of MK with Jeri Ryan, completely looks like a pile of you know what.
THANK GOD at the moment its not even considered by hollywood |

I'm not usually a fan of political correctness, but I think they went too far here. Especially since they could just make up a similar condition without harm to the movie's general feel.

His (Reptile's) case was obviously to the extreme. It's rather implied that he's kind of the evil spawn of man, here, not just someone with a condition. He feasts on raw human flesh, for cripe's sake... You can argue it's a mutated strain of this condition
This film is a pitch to studios to say hey, lookie how you could blend the realism of life with this out-there concept. This isn't the final product that might be shown to millions of people world-wide in theaters, so changes would inevitably be made, were this to ever get the green light.

I think Reptile should be kept as a man with said condition. I didn't know there was a real life condition, first thought was "Must be a made up disorder" but after some research, I was like "Wow" people do suffer from it. I'm sure many like myself didn't know, and looked it up. So this short film, has likely raised more awareness for this condition more than anything else could.
On the other hand, it would make Kelly and others with Harlequin feel bad. Baraka though was a bit of a stretch. The fight with Johnny was really good though, realistic as they come, with a dash of MMA styles. As for Jeri Ryan, I hope those few other things are worth mentioning...
