That's obvious that there will be a DVD box, but will it be possible to download the game as well ?
Maybe on Steam or a similar system.

I already bought some games using this system (Half-Life 2, Trackmania...) and this mode of distribution is a savior when there isn't any game shop near you (living in southern Asia, I can't remember to see an original box of any game, all are pirated version here...).

I don't know if this question has been already asked or answered, just curious. If the game appears to be good, downloading it will be the only way for me to reward the developers !

OMG no steam, please. There is noway you start the game if your computer don't connected to the internet. Do you accept this?

But... if this is the only decision - so be it. Because Eidos and Square Enix don't have their own download client soft, as it done by Electronic Arts, for example.

If you can get connected to activate it in the first place, you can then select "offline mode" in the options somewhere and you'll be able to play offline from then on.

A lot of games that come to Steam don't use it for their disc version anyway, so you should be safe if you're getting it on disc.

I still love having discs (and more importantly, manuals) so I don't buy games purely via Steam very often, but nonetheless I think Steam is the best thing to happen to PC gaming in a long time, and is the best way to secure the longevity of the platform. If Microsoft would stop trying to push Games for Windows Live, and just accept Steam as the "official" distribution platform for PC games, then we'd have a much rosier outlook.

people own computers that aren't permanently connected to the internet? what is this, 1998? :)

steam is great and i believe it has an offline mode anyway. pretty much no doubt that dx3 will be available too.

Yeah...what they said. IMO steam is awesome, although theres plenty of people who call it a "trojan program!!!111one" and silly stuff like that. Old men waving their canes at cars from their front lawn imo.

And yes, it has an offline mode, so as long as you get the product downloaded onto your computer (which is what you would HAVE to do if you actually wanted to DOWNLOAD it right? sounds like a good connection to me) then you can play it whenever.

It's not a matter of a lack of connection per se- It's more the speed of said connection. It's far more practical for some of us to go out and get a physical copy rather than digitally download the game. I have nothing against the service (few people really do IME), it's just not a great choice for getting my games. :)

Hell I'm getting the DvD no matter what ! I WANT the box with the manual and the CD so I can put them in my Deus Ex altar next to the sacrificial goat.

If they place the digital version almost half the retail price (like te early holiday discounts steam is doing right now), I will most likely buy it that way. But sooner or later, depending on the game's quality, I will buy a retail copy (collectors or not is still waiting for more info).

I've bought 4 boxed games this year, 11 through Steam.

Edit: Paranoid as I am, I have the entire 'My games' list downloaded just in case. : P

If EM decides to use Steam as means of DRM, I'd have nothing against disc copy requiring Steam. If nothing else, it beats other forms of DRM hands down. I own a number of games, original disk and all, for which I have to download cracks just to run them. That is just wrong.

I only want a hard copy of the game - the disc(s) and the box.
Signed by the dev team would be awesome, of course.

Anyway, I guess I shouldn't be in this thread then, so I bid farewell. :D
