Having just read DaveJ's questions and answers on the James Bond-series, I got myself a great idea. Let's play a fun game, shall we?

I ask 2 questions and the first one to answer them correctly, can take over and ask 2 new ones him- or herself. One thing has to be said though: let's keep those questions quite possible to answer. Don't start asking questions about some local musician only well-known to five or ten people. Don't start asking questions like: "What is the size of John Denver's middle finger?" or "When did E.T. first notice that blue BMW's in America are usually blue and not red? :D

All I'm saying is that the questions should concern a matter quite well-known to everybody around the world?

Ok? Here we go ... err ... well ... here I go.

Question 1: what was the very first song played on MTV when the music channel started broadcasting for the very first time?

A. U2 - Pride (In the name of love)
B. The Police - Every breath you take
C. Dire Straits - Money for nothing
D. Bruce Springsteen - Born in the U.S.A.
E. Alannah Myles - Black Velvet

Question 2: What actor said the famous oneliner: "I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is."?

Answer them correctly and move over to the next question (but not until I've said so that the answers given by you are indeed correct. :D)

Ok I'm confused but I'll try

Question 1 is none of those answers if I remember correctly. The first song was "Video Killed The Radio Star", while ironic as it sounds, I thought was the first song/video.

Question 2 I think is Tom Hanks in Forest Gump.

Half of it is good. Somehow you messed up on the first question. Believe me, the answer is right there. I looked it up before I posed the question, so .... if you're fast enough, you can get both questions right. If not, someone else will run away with the prize and you'll just have to wait your turn ...

In short: try again and do take one of those 5-given answers ... I'll give you a hint: the reason why MTV probably chose that song is because that song said only good things about MTV (maybe it was even especially written for MTV ... who knows?) Anyway, MTV is mentioned in the song and in such a way that you (as a listener) would only love to check out this brand new music station ... Well? Take a guess ...

I'll be checking for the correct answer in an hour or two ... bye now.

I know MTV, and the first video was the one I said, and there are sites that prove that. So I'll just wait a bit and let someone else steal it, as I don't feel like guessing because I don't think any of those answers are right. Not to say you're wrong, it's just I thought I knew MTV and I thought that was right so I'll just wait and see.

Well, you mean Money for nothing , right? But I also thought it was Video killed a radio star ...

Well, at least I'm not the only one....

I begin to think that there's a mistake here. I think there's a difference between MTV-America and MTV-Europe. I never thought about it, but the MTV I know doesn't have a single American or Canadian television-member in it. They are English, Irish, Swedish, Danish, Dutch, French, German, etc ... I never thought about it, but I should've asked my question a bit differently.

The question should've been:

Question 1: what was the very first song played on MTV-Europe when the music channel started broadcasting for the very first time? ... and then followed by the options. Anyway, great start for a new thread, huh? :D

@ DKSM: if you just say "Money for nothing" for question 1 and repeat your answer for question 2, it's your turn and you can ask 2 new questions. Just don't make the same mistake as I did by asking a question which can easily be mis-represented due to a lack of details in the question ... Do this and it's your turn. ;)

Question 1: c. Money is for Nothing
Question 2: Tom Hanks

I'll have 2 questions tomorrow.

Hmmm, not yet actually. The answer of question 1 is not entirely correct ... better check the options I gave you again. Pff, what I haven't got to do to get those questions answered here! :D

The first MTV to go on air was MTV America.
The first video shown was indeed "Video killed the radio star" by The Buggles.

DKSM was correct first time.

Godfather was incorrect, according to the question he asked what was the very first song played on MTV when the music channel started broadcasting for the very first time?

MTV Europe didn't appear until much later.

I know ... but I corrected myself, didn't I? ;)

Now I'm waiting for DKSM to say: "Money for nothing" instead of "Money is for nothing" and his two questions which'll hopefully get answers easier than on my two questions. :D

1. Money for Nothing

2. Tom Hanks

CORRECT!!!!!!! :D Now it's your turn. Sorry to be such a drag, but rules are rules! ;) You can be just as strict on your questions as I was ... if you want.

So go on. Pop a question o' two.

DKSM

Ok here I go

1. In which 1999 movie was this said? "When you have insomnia, you're never really asleep; you're never really awake"

2. Which movie coming out soon, will be the last of one for this certain "group"?

Sorry they are both movies, I can't think of anything else.

DaveJ

1. Fight Club

2..."Star Trek:Nemesis"....although this story has been denied by the cast and crew
;)

DKSM

Well, I think it is, and you knew what I was talking about so good. :p

Both are correct. You go.

1. In which film does someone say "Play it Again, Sam"?

2. Who was the first person to appear as James Bond on the cinema screen?

Think very carefully before answering.

THE True Lara

1. 'Moonraker'. -Mr Moore says it as Chang goes through the piano ;)

2. Presuming you mean Flemings Bond, and not some chap from an American B&W from when Fleming was 11, I'm going to stick with the obvious Sean Connery. Because the only place Bond appears before that is on TV, as played by what-is-face Nelson, Barry, or something I think??? You know, he was in The Shining, like, 20 somethin years later. But why do I feel a nagging doubt......

Somehow I feel that I'm gonna mess up. It seems just too easy. Or maybe you just said: "Think very carefully before answering" to try and trick us. Well, here we go ... err ... here I go.

1. Casablanca ... and that someone was the (then) beautiful Ingrid Bergman.

2. I originally wanted to say Sean Connery, but I then started to look it up (I how that's ok, DaveJ? I mean: I would've never guessed it from the pretty limited knowledge I have of James Bond-movies) :o ... and I came across a guy I had never heard of, but apparantly he played James Bond even before Sean Connery back in 1954. His name is Barry Nelson.

Am I right? Have I won? :D

THE True Lara
11-17-2002, 12:15 PM
I swear the Barry Nelson Bond in Casino Royale was for TV only....

And no one in Casablanca actually say's "Play it again Sam." -It's a movie-quote myth, just like "Beam me up, Scotty." ;)

Well, you're right but also wrong about that. Ingrid Bergman does say: "Play it, Sam. Play "As time goes by." But I think you're right about what you said "Play it again Sam" being a movie-quote myth. Whaa, I couldn't possibly come up with two new, original questions anyways, so in a way: it's good that I've got both answers wrong. ;)

DaveJ

Other than TTL's correct dismissal of the "Play it Again, Sam" line as provided by Godfather, we have no correct answers yet.

DaveJ
11-18-2002, 02:11 AM
Actually both questions were stinkers...but as THE True Lara was nearest with her appearance of the line "Play it again Sam" in Moonraker, I'll let her pose the next questions.

The answers were
1. The early '70's comedy movie "Play it Again, Sam" with Woody Allen....the line also appears in a Marx Brothers film, but I forget which one.

2. The first time Bond was seen on screen was in the now infamous Gun-Barrel opening sequence to 'Doctor No'. The chap playing Bond here - walking across screen and turning to shoot into the camera - was Connery's stunt double, Bob Simmonds.

Over to you TTL!

OOOH! How sneakily devious! I love it!

The funny part about the ending of Money for nothing is that it is
Sting uttering the words "I want my MTV", and the Police were included
as a possible answer in the first question.

Haven't listened to any Dire Straits or Mark Knopfler in years,
but boy oh boy what a great band!

Humm... Okay, since no one actually specified that the questions had to be about music or film/tv, I'm going to throw a curve;

Question 1. Which explorer at only 22 crossed the Amazon basin alone, almost dying in the attempt.

Question 2. Who said; "The great question... which I have not yet been able to answer despite my thirty years of research into the feminie soul, is What does a woman want?".

...come to think of it, they're quite easy you know ;)

Polar_Andromeda

1.?
2.Sigmund Freud

THE True Lara
11-20-2002, 02:54 PM
Correct on the second question Polar.

Any takers for question 1? I'll be very disapointed if no one gets it....:( ...I've give you a hint, it's a modern explorer.
