Hey all.
I don't know if any of you heard of this game before but it will be an open world action MMORPG super-hero and super-villain game, being developed by Sony, where you could play as your favorite DC characters or create your own. It was originally planned to be released by the end of this year but I believe they delayed it to mid-2010.
I have never played any MMORPG but I think I will have to get this game !

I think the gameplay looks really bad and the animations are weak. But I'll try it since there aren't any subscription fees. Nothing to lose.

looks alright. kinda a cell shaded art style. i might just check this out... the animations look good. may just get this to live my dreams of being in the same room as batman :D

I'm considering getting a PS3 for it. I use a laptop with an embrassing 1.86 ghz processor so I doubt it would run it.
Only for my precious Bruce would I get a PS3.

Funny, I've been dribbling over the trailers for this for the past week or so. It's still in the 'Alpha' stages, isn't it?
But when it comes out, it's so mine :D

It's not coming out for a long time. No sub fee has me interested though I'll try it out.

I'm checking it out since it doesn't have a monthly fee.
I like the fact you can retain the look of your hero/villain even if you gain a new helm or something, but i sincerely hope the gear progression won't be a big nuisance as it is in some MMOS. I'm a PvP person at heart and i really just wanna PvP and progress in that, not being forced to do PvE. :(

Actually, It is (or maybe past) Alpha stage (But the videos where alpha stage) :rasp: I think it's near Beta (Not sure whether it'll be open or closed)
And, where did you get the 'no sub fee' information, everywhere i've looked i've got mixed responses whether it will or won't :)

Am I the only one who is bothered by the lack of the subscription fee? Yea, It's great for the pocketbook. But usually there is more pressure on a company to keep things running smoothly when they have actual paying customers to answer too.

I pray the environments are vast and detailed and that the character customization is incredible.
Oh yeah, and hopefully the actual gameplay is good as well.
It seems like the creators are putting a lot of work into it and really want to get it right.

Oh yes, I am definitely buying this.... even if it's pretty early to talk about that, since apparently it's another year at the very least, before the game will be released.
Normally, I have no interest whatsoever in those shallow mmorpgs, so I wasn't even considering this videogame. But first, I casually heard it probably will not have a monthly fee. This started to get me curious, so I searched for informations about the gameplay. And I found out that it's not really the usual boring mmorpg: it's a lot more like an action videogame (a bit like inFamous, I guess), with a multiplayer online component. And that's when my hype skyrocketed.
I'm eager to try DC Universe Online, and I hope it won't fall short of my current expectations, which have become rather high.

Its not gonna have top level graphics. Its a RPG for christ sakes. Hopefully this is an Infamous+ City of Heroes with DC characters. Aside from Batman AA, thats my dream game. And just like B:AA, they have to get the combat right. Im done with these crappy MMOs

The servers will be mixed so PC/PS3 players can play together, tho i really wish PS3 Players would then get a damn keyboard for fast communication lol.
Anyhow the good thing about DCUO is pretty much the fact it has Open world Gotham city and Metropolis. Sure people are skeptical on the "its free, how can they survive" thing, but they probably will do what Bioware is doing to their Star Wars MMO. Make some parts cost, like extra content or whatnot. Really it's just a "wait and see" situation to be honest.
The 3 types of hero/villain in this game by the way are Technology (Joker and Batman), Science/Sci-fi (Superman and Lex Luthor) and Mystic (Wonder Woman and some sorceress whos name i can't remember) whichever type you choose and then hero/villain. You start the game with the assistant of that following hero/villain. For example: You make a technology villain and the game starts with Joker and Harley Quinn assisting you.

I have a headset and plug in my keyboard usually (I don't know why I do both O_O, depends if i feel like talking or not :rasp:)
Anyway, apparently you can choose a city of origin too (Gotham & metropolis are the 2 i know atm), You choose your power source (Weapons, head, hands, ring are all i know of atm) a movement mode (acrobatics, flight, super speed, teleportation, and I think swinging has been rumored)
and then a power 'origin' (magic, meta, tech, quantum), which are the types.
I think most of this is speculation though, whether it came from a reliable source I don't know.

How free do you freakin want it?
Also, Jim Lee has been on the design?? And its what has probably killed All-star, it doesnt look bad but it does look alittle plain. Again tho its a RPG, its not gonna be Final Fantasy.
The question ive always had with the game is the combat/gameplay (Same with Batman AA).This looks like a free-roam superhero game, and thats all I need to hear.

I should have said MMORPG, but I meant to compare the graphics to the usual FF game. Yes there is an MMO Final Fantasy, ive played it, and its just like all other MMORPGs thats why I didnt bring it up, and there is gonna be another one as well as another single-player FF. Ive lost count to tell the truth.
It was a bad comparison i guess. Jim Lee is head of the ship on the designs and stuff, and its plain I guess to give it a classic superhero look to it. It reminds me of The Incredibles. Its not gonna be expected like a Final Fantasy to have great graphics/cutscenes then you mix in the MMO aspect of it.

When it comes to making what is intended to be the definitive superhero game, I don't think there's anyone better than Jim Lee to be in charge of the designs. You could say his art style is plain, but I think when you're going to do a project meant to be the epitome of the DC universe that combination of classic designs with masterful craftsmanship and modern presentation is where to go.

Thing is, I don't like Jim Lee's drawings, and I never did. (For one, I still can never forget that he once drew the Riddler looking clean and nicely dressed up and holding a pen while scribbling his crosswords..... WHILE HE WAS IN HIS ARKHAM CELL. No sense whatsoever.) All his ladies are barbiegirls, and all his men have constantly gritted teeth.
But.... I somehow think he finally found his match with this videogame. Really, Jim Lee's supercolorful style, which I usually despise so much, suddenly looks just right for this videogame. It also somehow gives me a vague '90s cartoon feel; so that maybe playing DC Universe Online will be like being inside an episode of Superman: The Animated series or of Batman: The Animated Series. It's great.
There's one thing that I keep wondering, however. How are they going to make Edward Nigma into a character that can actually fight? What kind of skills is he supposed to have? I can't imagine the Riddler jumping and running from the roof like some kind of athlete....

Hmmmmm. How free do I want it? Well I would not pay money for a game that looked like that at a finished level. Free pc games like Shaiya and Wolfteam have more detail.
Usually graphics do not bother me much compared to gameplay but I have limits.
But that is probabely a beta level so hopefully the graphics are better in the finished version.
But if it is good nothing will stop me getting it. PS3/PC together would be awesome.
For the PS3 I would get it.

It sort of is. The creator is the creator of GTA and Crackdown. But instead of being all carnage is a big Cops and Robbers game.
The character models and customization are incredible, and just make me wonder why DCUO, given how huge the brand is, can't have that quality.
