I speak of course, of the modern Batman. Do you think that the year is closer to 2009, or maybe, 2000, or even earlier.
Also, if anyone can tell me what mainstream comic the Modern Batman began or even better, which issue, that'd be spectacular.

Comics always occur in the "Modern Day". Due to the application of a floating timeline, events such as Thomas and Martha Wayne's deaths do not occur in in a set year, but constantly "37 Years Ago".
Here's a rough rundown of the timeline for Batman:
- 45 years ago: Bruce Wayne is Born
- 37 years ago: Thomas and Martha Wayne are killed
- 29 years ago: Bruce Wayne begins his training
- 20 years ago: Batman begins his career
- 20 years ago: Batman and other heroes form the Justice League
- 19 years ago: Robin first teams up with Batman, then aged 12. Harvey Dent becomes Two-Face
- 18 years ago: Barbara Gordon becomes Batgirl at age 15
- 10 years ago: Batman quit the JLA and forms his own team, the Outsiders
- 9 years ago: Grayson is fired by Batman and becomes Nightwing. Batman takes in Jason Todd as the new Robin. Jason is killed by the Joker. The Joker shoots and paralyzes Batgirl (rough year)
- 5 years ago: Tim Drake becomes the third Robin
- 4 years ago: Batman has his back broken by Bane
- 3 years ago: No Man's Land. After that, the Hush storyline.
- 2 years ago: The events of 52. Harvey Dent looks after Gotham during Batman's absence.
- 1 year ago: Robin is officially adopted by Batman. Batman is revealed to have a son, Damian. Batman "dies".
Now, this is messy. There is a lot of mess in this. It's jumbled and it gets re-jumbled frequently. Basically, Batman was born in 1964. He parents were killed in 1972 and he became Batman in 1989. Next year he'll have been born in 1964 and become Batman in 1990, if they keep this timeline consistent.

Bruce Wayne is in his thirties, he can't be 45 years old. =p
Good comic to start reading Batman? How about Batman: Year One? ;) :) Shows how he begins his crusade.

Like I said, it doesn't fit. Bruce's official birthday was something like 38 years ago, with his parents dying 30 years ago, but then it says 20 years ago he started as Batman when he was 25. Various timelines muddling things up.

I started with Batman Year One but was wondering what issues I should pick up? The new Batman and Robin, maybe?
