View Full Version : Yee Hah!!! Just scrapped the Metal Age!

Well, it took me a year and a half (been suuuper busy), but I finally beat down Karras and the rest of his metal children in a 6 1/2 hour all nighter to bring Thief II to a close!!!

36 Hours, 13 minutes, 42 seconds of game time (multiply that by 3, and that's how long I actually spent) to finish it.

Pinched 22,623 gold; recycled 2426 damage points worth of Karras' kids, and received in turn 249 damage points from various sources (bombs, poison gas, spears, mallets, giant circular saw blades, swan dives from incredible heights....)

After it was all said and done, though, I still gotta say, Thief: The Dark Project was still tonnnnnns better than Thief II!

Thief II never quite gave me that visceral thrill of running for my freakin' life from a pack of hideously cackling Haunts that the original did (all to often). Come on, who can get intimidated by a walking barrel of bolts talking like Elmer Fudd??! :p

The level designs were hardly awe-inspiring, although there were one or two that I have to give a nod to simply because of their length and wonderful architectural style (Breaking into the Bank, for example....that was a monster)!

The lighthouse one wasn't too bad, also, but other than that, it was like....been there, done that. I almost fell over when the two missions just before the last one were carbon copies of each other! "OK, Garrett, break into the house for a dry run, and then do the exact same thing again....but this time we're gonna triple the guards."

I do recall, tho., the rooftop mission! Now THAT one was probably the highlight of the game! :D

Well, just wanted to report in to the Keepers my finish and also thanks for tips on where some of the secrets were that I never found.

Adios, stay in the shadows, and keep on taffin'!!!

Cool, well done!

I agree, Thief 1 had better immersiveness, I enjoyed the roughness of the levels.

Oh, but there are some fantastic Thief 2 Fan Missions out there!
:)

Congratulations, but don't quit now!! Try out the Fan Missions that are available for both Thief 1 & 2. You'll be amazed at the quality of a lot of them. There are enough out there to keep you busy until T3 is released and after, too. :)

There are over 200 FMs (fan missions) that will run under the T1 and T2 game engines. Some of the FMs are better than many of the OMs (original missions); Calendra's Cistern, Calendra's Legacy, Seventh Crystal, Hallucinations, and lots more. You will need to download Darkloader to load and run the FMs but that's pretty easy. You just unzip it into its own directory; no installation, and uninstallation is just deleting the directory.

Mark_One,
My congratulations and nice work. :)

Yeah in many way Thief DP has more immersiveness. Maybe it was the undead, maybe it was the missions themselves. But I do like them both. They both have their points.

And for sure get into the FM's. There are so many out there that you could play nothing but Thief for a very long time! :)

And a whole lot of those FM's are absolutely excellent.

Karras sounds like Droopy the Dog, not Elmer Fudd. :D

LOL Lake! Now that I think about it, your right. Too funny. :) That shed's a whole new light on Karras. Got to love it. :D

Looks like you marked it good mark_one. ;)

mark_one,
You haven't beat Karras children yet:D until you've played Karras' Diary, Prophecies of Gold FM!!!
It carries on from where T2 left off.

Lisa, I stumbled onto your post almost by accident, you might have been better off starting a new thread about this topic.

But I know where you can find some good advice: it worked for me.

I shouldn't have read this thread. I HAVEN'T EVEN FINISHED THIEF 2 YET! I've only had it for 2 months. I also was only self introduced to Thief 1 in April this year. And now I know how it ends.... that's it, it's over. It's all stuffed up for me now! *yawn* I think I'll go to bed now... :o
