View Full Version : What happened to the Arkham Batcave in the new "Gadgets" trailer?

I was watching over some gameplay, and I quickly noticed how bad the Batcave looks in the new trailer compared to a video released earlier this month by IGN.

I'm hoping it was just a screw up in the editing. What do you think?

Look at the textures. They're definitely not the same.

It could be the textures haven't redrawn yet. but i cant be certain.

You may be right. I have noticed some very minor texture pop-in during the demo. But why would they use that clip in an official trailer? :confused:

hm maybe it is one of the cowl modes but i could be wrong. it does not look like that in the gadget video when it shows him getting scanned. which is awesome i might add. but i guess we will find out what it really looks like in 12 days eh? WOOT

It is, I double checked. Batman glides in, gets scanned, door opens, he goes into the Batcave.

I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.

real it looks like detective mode but then i notice the color in the bat cave so idk maybe they toned down some textures to make way for something else.

hm maybe when he gets scanned a light comes on above him to indicate approved access. this may make the lighting different and the door might become like become more metallic looking or shed its camoflauge or something. also if you watch in the gadgets video when he is walking towards the door it looks like the IGN video : /

The hue could be easily explained: Batman came into the Batcave at two separate times during the night. The textures are the issue...

I think im gonna say that the textures haven't redrawn yet in this clip. I dunno if the player could have died and the textures werent ready, because it happens in the demo.

its a possibility, but slightly off topic in the gadget trailer you see a cut on batmans cheek at 24 seconds in i thought i would just point that out because i thought it was cool

It just looks like second still is missing the bump, displacement, or normal mapping for some reason. For those of you who don't know, this is just graphical information that a rendering application would interpret as depth in space.
However, there is some definite loss in the diffuse mapping too. I'm not exactly sure why they would step it back unless there was a frame rate drop for some reason.

it looks like some textures hadn't rendered completely yet... having experienced first hand the textures both systems are doing in AA, i don't think one shot is ps3 and one is 360... hmmm

I'm leaning towards the trailer being old.

Maybe they've sat on that trailer since before the delay?

And I don't think it's a PC to console thing. B/c no matter what, that bottom pic looks almost blurry bad.

The texture's havn't re-drawn yet, as Solidkill3er and F50 have already said.

It's nothing to worry about.

It definitely seems like an older build because there's no way they'd release it to that standard. The lack of textures in that new shot are horrifying. The PS2 can do better.

Yes, But I don't like that it's very very damaged; at the end of the game, Bats could be naked :P

i dunno if it's a texture problem because from my experiences with texture pop-ins from the demo, it is only on certain surfaces... meaning even if the texture on the rock wall that was about to let bats in hadn't redrawn yet, everything else should have still looked decent... but there are like NO good textures in that shot except for on bats...

to those of you saying it's detective mode, it isn't
detective mode places a small white outline around bats when he's against a blue color surface

Its just where the texture's haven't loaded propperly. Happens from time to time. The unreal 3 engine is known for this. Happens in Gears alot when a scene changes

Its just the graphic settings. One looks like one is high settings, one looks like low setting . those with the pc version know this.. Nothing to worry about.

I just noticed, that in the same trailer...before that shot, the ground and bottom half of the boulders are in great detail and looks better.

It's before the part where Batman gets scanned, and before the "Against All Odds" text. The ground and the rocks looks better than a few second after that, which is the picture that's captured at the beginning of this thread. Anyone else notice that? I'm not sure why this is, though.
