Hey guys,
I know this is kinda getting old but I also have a problem with Thief 3
I Installed and played the game for awhile until it crashed in the middle of the first mission.
After that I tried to run the game again and got an error saying there's a problem with t3main.exe.
I tried patching the game and after that uninstalling and reinstalling the game but I kept getting the same problem.
I went over some of the other threads and found a way to fix the t3main.exe with the GL.
So now when I run the game it seems like it's about to start and the screen fades to black, but before even seeing the first video the game crashes (no special error message).
I tried:
-Setting my dual core to use 1 CPU for the game
-Updating my graphic card drivers
-Updating my Direct X
-Making sure Direct3d was enabled in Direct X settings
and nothing worked...
I am Using Windows XP, 2 GB RAM Dual core, my graphic card is GeForce 7300 GT.
I would really appreciate help with this matter!

Nvidia and GEforce cards sometimes cause problems. Try the manufacturers site for a "fix" and do a search in the forum(s) for the card, specific and general (IE Geforce, Geforce model zys. etc.).

Some fixes have been noted, most require backing down to an earlier video driver for the card(s).

There are two executables that run in separate processes: t3.exe and t3main.exe. Start one, and it invokes the other. You may need to make sure that both are running in single core mode. The usual procedure with imagecfg did not work with me. It fixed one but not the other (I think it did not fix t3.exe). I ended up using ProcessWatch to set both of them. You can test it manually first. Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and bring up the Task Manager. Select process tab and right click on each process to set affinity.

So far as I know, the only problem with Nvidia cards is with rendering in T2 or T1, not in T3. The T1 and T2 problems are solved using DDFIX, as explained in the sticky threads.

I'd recommend uninstalling T3 and playing T2 instead :)
