Like most Unreal Engine 3.0 games, B:AA defaults to 4x Anisotropic Filtering. You have to edit the INI to up it.
Vista:-
c:\Users\[username]\Documents\Eidos\Batman Arkham Asylum Demo\BmGame\Config\BmEngine.ini
Search for MaxAnisotropy= and change it to your desired value, the maximum being 16.

Why does this game use pre-rendered cutscens? Ugh, the screen shots look better than them...

All of the cutscenes are done in-engine. None of them are pre-rendered.

They are all made in the engine that is correct, but there are some that are captured as movie files and played back.
This is a very common thing in game development and is usually done for story specific and critical bits. This enables the developer to do much more in a scene then some machines may actually handle in true realtime (remember they have to cater for every user, not everyone has a machine more powerful then nasa).
In Batman most of the cutscenes are still totally realtime.

I truly have no idea what your talking about. The cutscenes looked great. The one problem I noticed was lip syncing in some areas.
Has anyone noticed that with the PhysX enhancements it drops your framerate like 20fps? (Talking about non-sli single card users).
Btw I have a gtx 260 core 216 overclocked the memory to 1250mhz. At everything very high I get a constant 40fps. At everything Low with PhysX on normal, I get a constant TWENTY fps. My video card never goes above 56 degrees while in this game, so I know it isn't being pushed at all (Far Cry 2 gets me to 65ish, some games get me to 70).
Umm, is this why the game is being delayed?

Ok, my 360 got the RROD can anyone tell me how to get the demo on my PC? The url doesn't work for me.
I am new to playing games on my PC so if anyone could help, that would be great.
Thanks. :)

Yea tried it with a single card gtx 275, didn't notice 20 fps drops, more like ~5 (using fraps)

I didn't have time this morning to dissect the settings for PC graphics, but are there high/med/low settings for different things? I was running the game on the default install settings and it was pretty slow. My computer passed all of the system requirements, even the processor because I guess I have a 1.8 GHz with 2 cores, and it needs 3.0 GHz with 1 Core :)
Even though it was laggy, I did notice a big difference in the effects.
Did anyone else notice how many more controls the PC version has compared to the consoles?!

You should notice that for NORMAL PhysX, ideally you need a GTX260 but for HIGH PhysX you should also have a 9800GTX which would be your dedicated PhysX card. This should keep your FPS high.

I'm not familiar with the GTX260 I have a GeForce 8500 GT, which should work "OK". It's not the latest and greatest by any stretch (I guess now that I think about it, the game DID reccommend I update my video card, which I didn't have time to do this morning)

When you first launch the game there should be a "settings" window

I had no problems running the game but of course my computer is a newly built high spec one so i guess people with computers that just run the game will suffer in performance.

No I saw that, but I didn't have time to test my system against different configurations. I wanted to make sure the PhysX was turned on, but that may be why it's so slow, if my computer can't handle it :(

The content in-game that you see depends on the which PhysX setting you choose. There are slight differences between Normal and High.

K finished testing on second PC, first one was i7 920 2.66GHz(oc 4ghz), gtx 275 896mb, 4 gb ram, vista - runs excellent with everything on very high, average 55FPS it seems that there is a 60 FPS cap, can you confirm that jay?
Second PC is an older Dell XPS 420(Q6600 4x 2,4ghz (not oc) 8800GT 512 MB, 4 gb ram, vista) which was bought 2 years ago, Settings set to very high, PhysX only on normal.
I really wondered, it runs smooth, 35-45 fps, some drops to a lowest value of 25, till I entered the Zsazs room, when i dropped down on him fps went to ~20(impact on the ground that shatters the floor tiles), after a while to 10 then 5 fps, guess the card couldn't handle the lightning + the physx effects, next room: back to 40 fps~
K now i tried it on "High", better average fps, same problem in the zsasz room.
Last try: very high, no physx - runs perfect 60 fps.
Overall i must admit, those guys did a great job.

Do you have any comment on why AA isn't available for AMD cards?

I know the option says nvidia does it not actually do anything if you try and set it

Nope, it doesn't budge. Forcing it from catalyst control center will not work either.
And I have 4870 Crossfire, so I've got more than enough horsepower for AA.

Let me chase that up for you, as i would have thought at very least setting it to ON in control centre would be work.
Hm now i know crossfire cards sometimes cause problems, have u tried disabling 1 of the cards and seeing if it then allows it when forced.
Looks like it was an Unreal engine thing and ATI not supporting AA normally until AMD/ATI released a driver that partially fixed the issue by allowing `forced` to work. So its not just Batman that has had this issue.

Just tried with Crossfire disabled. All it did was lower my frames, still no AA.

I think i said it on another thread, it may need AMD/ATI to do an update to their drivers to recognise our game so will allow forced AA from CCC (just hazarding a guess, since they had to do it before for Unreal engine games so maybe it needs a refresh)

Figured out a fix.
Just rename the exe to UT3.exe, and you can force AA through CCC. Seems it's just a simple case of there not being a profile for B:AA in the drivers yet. This should be fixed this month when AMD rolls out the new catalyst 9.8's.
(just figured I'd post this in the major PC version threads)
Thank you for the support jaycw2309. :)

RE: Anti-aliasing.
There's a command in BmEngine.ini:-
MaxMultisamples=
This controls AA, try changing the value. Maybe then you'll get native in-game AA on Radeon cards.
Turning off Mouse acceleration
1. Open up BmInput.ini
2. Search for bEnableMouseSmoothing=
3. Change the value to false.
4. Save the changes.

A 8500GT is a pretty poor performing card and would be too weak to do graphics + PhysX processing.
I recommend that you turn off Hardware-accelerated PhysX effects altogether.

Well, we've got a lot more buttons :)
