I really don't like the design. It just doesn't look like the Scarecrow to me. Just some random run-of-the-mill goon he could employ.

Game Weasel
07-29-2009, 06:21 AM
I must confess, I'm disappointed in the design myself. He doesn't really look like his name sake here. Sure he's freaky looking, and if you're tripping out on a psychotic he's probably going to look scary as hell, but he still doesn't look like a scarecrow.
I think one thing that would go a long way toward pulling the look together would have been to just give him his hat.

DrDoom
07-29-2009, 07:22 AM
Well you got to remember he had to make his costume from his uniform and things he found. I highly doubt they have some wide brimmed hats just sitting around the Asylum.

He doesn't look THAT bad, but I do agree he looks more like a henchmen than the actually Scarecrow.

Too bad he couldn't have had a hat because that would have added a lot to the design of the character. Those syringes are still kind of weird to me, too. lol

I think this the only mistake the creators have made is not giving Scarecrow his signature hat.

There must be some reason he doesn't have it. But now that I think about it everyone except the joker isn't wearing their iconic costumes. Harley Quinn is in a nurse uniform, zsasz is almost always (as I have seen him) still in his prison clothes, bane has a costume but it doesn't look like the one in the game, poison ivy has a jacket and etc instead of her usual look, and now the only thing about scarecrow's look is his hood.

So looking at that it makes sense that arkham gets rid of it's patients clothing and moves them to inmate costumes, but I bet they could have retrieved them somehow

You know what? Wait... of course you don't, that's a dumb question. How could you possibly know what I want without knowing me and my motives? Wait, I'm digressing again like a senile Woody Allen.

Okay, I think one of the things that drew me to this game and which I still find endearing is the fact that they have given a new take on the Batman mythos. It's what's so great about modern comics, looking at different people's interpretations of the central myth we are all familiar with, just like in ancient times when the tales of Gods and Heroes were shared aurally or now when parent's tell their kids the classic bed-time fairy tales.

Look at Ledger's take on the Joker, Azzarello's (is that spelt right?) Killer Croc pimp or Dini's classic take on Freeze; all are perfect examples of this kind of development. In "B:AA", I'm particularly taken by the steam-punk-esque Bane and the amazing "AA: A Serious House On Serious Earth"-style Killer Croc. Although I like Bane's look, I do have to admit to being a little disappointed with Bane's actual character which seems a little more spasticated in the mind-tank than his comic counterpart.... a little bit (dare I say)... Batman & Robin.

You have to let guys mess with these tropes to keep them fresh. I say: "Go nuts, Rocksteady."

You have to remember that Bane is being tortured by the Joker in the game. He's capable of speech, but he's taking modified drugs that increase his addiction. With Paul Dini writing the script, I wouldn't be concerned from the short clips that we have seen of Bane.

I think it has more with being completely fueled on the Venom, then him being like the mindless beast in the movie.

After all he does show some intelligence when he asks Batman to get him down.

And Batman is surprised to see him in the state he's in.

With Paul Dini writing the script, I wouldn't be concerned from the short clips that we have seen of Bane.

Perhaps, but I didn't like Batman: The Animated Series' portrayal of Bane. They thought of Bane as a gimmick, and undersold his intelligence a bit. So, I'm just preparing myself for a portrayal of him from a writer that possibly considers Bane a gimmick and nothing more. It's okay, but it still isn't Bane.

Yeah, that worries me. Correct me if I'm wrong but Bane in the comic under went (as far as my limited knowledge is aware) horrific torture and Venom-based experiments in some South American prison and managed to retain his intelligence and personality through force of will. The fact he is under-going the same in Arkham would lead me to still think he would be the cool, calculating and merciless Bane we all love. Any arguements against are at best fan-based ret-conning, really.

However, saying that, I'm always interested in new takes on familiar characters.

Here's the deal about Bane, people.

Paul Dini is writing the script. He has said several times that he dislikes Batman and Robin.

Bane is being controlled by the Joker. Batman even seems shocked that Bane looks so weak. We don't know how many times you fight him in the game. The first battle could be when he's under the Joker's command. His bio even says the modified Venom makes him focus entirely on Batman.

You people are jumping to conclusions, and it's annoying.

That was my thought as well. Even remember doing his fight with Batman he says "I will break you Batman."

That shows some intelligence. In the movie he couldn't even say anything beyond one word at a time.

Yeah. The GameSpot preview of the first two levels said that Bane communicates very well with Batman until the Joker pumps him with modified Venom. He's able to speak very clearly, and he even asks Batman to cut him down.

And these aren't going to be quick 2 minute flashes of interactions, most likely. From what Sefton said in the interview, the bosses we've seen, including Scarecrow, are the main bosses in the game. I mean, there might be other cameos, or mini roles for other characters, but they took careful time in picking the ones that would work and fleshing out the whole road to them. I am sure we have a TON more of each that was never intent to be shown before we get the game in our greedy little hands ;)

I can't see that. My computer requires more hamster wheels.

I had a feeling I should have posted the link as well to Discovery Channel...

Sefton said Bane is considered a main character.

That means we should see him break free from the Joker.

Or it could mean we'll just see him more then once.

Anyways guys back on topic with the Scarecrow.

Today I read Gamemaster's superb review for AA in my own home and I read something I hadn't previously read off the forum.

It says half way through the game Poison Ivy's plants take over most of the Asylum. But they said it's nothing compared to Scarecrows nightmarish plans.

I believe he's gonna play a bigger part than everyone suspects !

It's blantantly obvious he is a boss and they mention him having an involvement.

scarecrow as the boss who controls joker?.... hm... it could work.. bu then again if its drawing off the 70 years i doubt scarecrows controlling joker (fear gas doesnt work on joker)

What if the big twist is that Bane gets free from Joker and starts helping Batman. It seemed to me that they were almost milking him for Venom extract for Project Titan. No matter how much he hates Batman, he must want revenge for that.

It almost leads me to think that instead of being one big master rogues' plan, this is going to bust out in the sequel with Joker, Ivy, Scarecrow and an escaped Mr. Freeze battling for Gotham with none other than Riddler scheming and calculating behind the scenes as the master of it all.
