* Zaphod takes the laces out of his Adidas, puts on his gold rope chain, and fires up "Jam-Master-Jammin'" *
What a shame. RIP.

I was reading about the fan memorials- there's one in Queens that's beginning to look more like a pile of shoes than anything else - several bouquets of flowers, as compared to an ever-growing number of unlaced Adidas sneakers with "R.I.P. -JMJ" on the sides.
The shoes are definitely more appropriate than the flowers, in this case.

And the dude was my age. I knew RUN-DMC since 1983.

RUN/DMC were pioneers.
Jam Master Jay was considered the first to "scratch".
There was an excellent Hip Hop exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum a couple
years ago. I learned a lot.
I'm not really into hip hop or rap myself,
but I do recognize, applaud, and hold in high esteem the masters of any given musical genre.
(in the case of bubblegum pop, boy bands and prepubescent female
vocalists, it's the producers I hold in high esteem not the performers.)
And RUN/DMC were just plain cool.
Godspeed, Jason.
The great band in the sky increases by one.
