I might be looking for a needle in a haystack here, but are there any model horse collectors in the house? :o
If so I thought it would be interesting to talk about collections or etc. I'm a straight up Breyer fan myself.
Anyways, hope I'm not the only one into this hobby!

Not looking too hopeful, is it. I bet Linny Croft would have such an interest, but Linny hasn't made an appearance for a while. If you felt like it, I would like to see any pictures you have of your model horses.

Sorry, the best I can do is say that I've bought Breyer horses as gifts for friends kids. My former boss's daughter was a Breyer horse collector.
My Mom has a few very old horses from the 40s or 50s but I don't know if they're Breyer.
Headache, at least I know you aren't alone in collecting them even if no one on the forum does :)

Indeed, I had the same feeling.
If you felt like it, I would like to see any pictures you have of your model horses.
But ha, are you truly sure about that? I'd think the majority would be bored with looking at "plastic toy horses" lol.

Breyer collectors are few and far between, but if the models your mom has are really Breyers those would be worth a fortune :thumb:
It pains me though when people who don't really know the worth of a really nice Breyer model they're buying, and end up giving them to young-ish children who abuse them... But hey, what you don't know won't hurt you. They make do make excellent gifts either way.

plastic toy
I LOVE PLASTIC TOYS, especially well made ones. And Breyer horses are made very nicely, even the cheaper ones!
I'm a plastic model guy myself. I've been building plastic models for national competitions since the early 80s.
I might not be a huge fan of plastic horses but I can certainly appreciate them from one plastic collector to another :D
I'll tell you what Headache, and I know it sound kinky, but it's not - I'll show you mine if you show me yours. And just to get everyone's mind out of the gutter, I'm talking plastic models! ;)
BTW, I find that I have 2 Breyer horses here courtesy of my Aunt who passed away a number of years ago. They're about 3 inches long and are stamped 1975. Both medium brown with black mains and tails. I had forgotten about them.

Hey young lady, since when are you concerned about what the "majority" thinks? This ain't no popularity contest. I don't need to tell you that members contribute to threads that interest them and bypass threads that don't interest them. I am not familiar with model horses, so yes I am interested, and yes I'll be back to see pics of your horses and Blowhard's horses. So far, I've learned that "Breyer" is a breed (do I have the right term?) of horse. The only thing I know about horses is that there was a breed of horse that was good at pulling and sprinting and other stuff, but I can't remember the name.

Here you go Rumm,

I wasn't talking about posting horse pictures, I was going to post some pictures of my built model kits...if you guys think you can stand it! :D

All right then, let the picture posting begin. As for my collection, it's quite extensive so it took me quite a while to do everything. I'll post pics tomorrow.
I also collect the LOTR Armies of Middle Earth: Warriors and Battle Beasts (only the guys on horseback though) if anybody wants to see those as well.

I guess I've been told, eh? You're quite right though, Ruum.

Like Wikipedia said, Breyer is a model horse company. Peter Stone would be the other popular model horse company, but I don't like them so much because a lot of the horse's positions are overly-dramatic.
(And the kind of horses good at pulling would be any draft horse like a Clydesdale or Shire, and the best kind of horse good at sprinting or racing would be the Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred, even the Arabian) ;)

Those would be Stablemates, the smallest models of the Breyer line.

Stablemates
Yep, that's them. I looked them up but didn't see pictures of the ones I have...I didn't look too long though.
let the picture posting begin
I'll give you a preemptive picture-

It's not a horse, that's for sure! It's a WWI British tank. I finished it in 2008.
It started out as a plastic kit but I had to add and correct a lot of things to make it look right.
To give you an idea, the kit was molded in dark gray plastic. Everything that isn't dark gray is something I added.

OK now, no excuses, lets see those horses!!!! :D

...Breyer is a model horse company
D'oh! I hadn't caught on that Breyer was a model horse company! Shows what I know about horses.
Thanks for the link, Blowhard. I'll check it later. I like your model tank! Lots of detail, and nice weathering.
I'm glad you changed your mind, Headache. I'll be watching for pics.
I collect a few things - crystal and very delicate German miniature animals with beaks and antlers so thin they are like sugar strands. I had the whole cabinet out today cleaning it and only trust myself not to break anything! It's such a stressful task, one false slip and it's gone forever :o I started inadvertantly collecting porcelain dolls too recently.
I too would be interested in seeing your collection, Headache although I don't personally collect plastic models. My ex-husband once threatened to start building plastic model cars and displaying them so I gladly said he could make use of the loft as his house of exhibition
I'd love a miniature glass horse though - I think "Little Miss" had one in Bicentennal Man (movie) and the robot dropped it with his clunky metal hands, shattering it and so he carved her one out of wood - I felt so sorry for that little (albeit fictional), girl, she was heartbroken so I know how protective we all get about our little collections :)

My sister collects items similar to those, though I'm sure they're not that delicate. I also have a hell of a time dusting my models and finding places for them to sit because I have so many.
It's extremely hard not to scratch them - you can see marks in some of the pictures.

Agreed.
How long did it take you to put those together? I would never have the patience to do something like that.
Breyer models are also popular for doing custom paint jobs and drastic remodeling, for example:
A)
Original model, Susecion and LeFire:

Custom job:

C)

Drastic re-models/paint jobs:

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n96/IhateyourExistence/demands3edit.jpg
I wish I was artistically inclined, let alone gifted, to make custom models as some of the these are just fantastic.. ah well...
My collection will be posted later this evening.

DAMN, that's a LOT of horses! It must have taken a long time to collect them. It took a long time just to look through them!
Thanks for posting them :) You might want to think about putting a website together with your collection.
BTW, I'm not bored yet :D
 Did you say DIAL UP??????
I'm sorry to hear that. It must be a real pain :(
How long did it take you to put those together? I would never have the patience to do something like that.
Too long. I started in several years ago and then stopped work because it was too much work...if you get my meaning.
The worst thing was replacing the rivets, as you can see. This one sponson has 263 rivets, each one has a hand drilled hole...ugh. Was I really that stupid to do all that work? :p
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3138/2334970983_96c002030e_o.jpg
Here's another one, a WW1 Albatros flown by Ernst Udet-

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3472/3291907642_80f05d489a.jpg?v=0
You'll notice Ernst liked Lo as much as all of us here do :D
I spent a lot of time fixing this kit up too. The fuselage is hand formed plastic with an aluminum sheet cowling. Hand carved laminated propeller too ;)
SAY LO! How about showing us your crystal creatures too! :)
Headache, thank you for posting those pics they are awseomeness personified :D
I know all about how long it takes on the old dial-up so they are even more appreciated.
They are really pleasant pictures and thank you for sharing them with us :flowers:
I hope you will continue to collect and share your latest purchases with us all :o
Soon I may take some of my collections for you (I also collect "Me to You" teddy bears)!

I love that Albatros model by the way :thumb:

Sorry I'm late. I'm finally had a chance to take a look at the updates.
Lol 263 hand drilled rivet holes? Now that's devotion! Yes, Blowhard, based on your finished product, it was worth it.
Wow, Headache, to me, even just the original models are beautiful, and the custom jobs are amazing! I still have to check your links. Thanks for taking the time to upload on dial-up.
Edit: Checked your links. That's quite the collection that you've been able to show us so far. I love Stardust, Twilight Terror, and the Cougar and Horse face-off.
