The Riddler

I have to say you all disappoint me,

You have all been fooled by the phony.

My plans have been temporarily impeded,

Here are the solutions for those who need it:

-There are twenty-four and you will find the next clue on the thirteenth of the twenty-four ...

1300 hours on the 24 hour clock, also the 24th of June.

-Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,

There are impostors as you can see.

Believe you me, we are of no relation,

First recall; time is based on location (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotham_City) ...

The link leads to an article which explains that New York was the first city to be dubbed as Gotham. Time should have been viewed as such. Also, the impostor was exposed!

-I warned you about the counterfeit,

If you are seeking the next clue, this is it:

The twenty-four have seen their cue,

To address the countdown to the next clue ...

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h38/spiderman_2o99/finalriddle.jpg

If you match the numbers, to the letters you can spell out a web address. But you need to count down or in reverse to match the twenty-four characters correctly.

http://batmaniareviews.blogspot.com/

If you searched carefully you will notice I left my mark ...

Comment stands out of the dark ...

In that section you will find, the last clue that I left behind ...

-The third clue is really the second one,

Yes my friends you have nearly won!

If you find yourselves to be at a loss,

Simply walk as Dorothy in Land of Oz ...

Going back to the second clue you will see some numbers in yellow. Simply walk "The Yellow Brick Road" to see who was missing!

Hopefully you enjoyed this game for now I concede,

That a few were able to hamper my deed.

I will return to finish this fight,

I will return in a fortnight.

So don't start that with me.Besides, I've seen what a pain he was before I joined the forums.Seriously, you guys must have Batmans sense of humor to shut me down like that since he doesn't have much of a sense of humor. And the imposter would never have killed my sense of humor like he did you guys if I had joined before he ever showed up, so lighten up people. And I apologize if I was being rude to everyone.

Robin was missing?

Correct. Why... since the contest is over he didn't give the correct answer is beyond me.

Anyways, it would have been sorta fun I guess.... if it hadn't seemed like some troll coming on here to annoy us. Half the people on the forums didn't consider it a competition... and if you can't get your audience to think that, that's when you've failed.

Make it an obvious competition in brain bending thought guys! Otherwise you'll get people like me who just ignore it and wander off elsewhere.

It was the plot in the old MSX game. The review on it was where the third clue was hidden.

Seriously people, please stop saying I'm an imposter:(.I chose my name because The Joker is my most favorite Batman enemy, although The Riddler used to be my most favorite so now he has taken The Jokers old spot as my second most favorite. And no, it's not because of the fake Riddler, I just happened to like The Joker more and more as I got older that's all.

What kind of math?

KnowHowIGotTheseScars?
06-25-2009, 10:50 PM
Ok so If I have a 1 and 25 chance of WINNING prize X. what would be the chances I would LOSE 8,818 times in a row ... A friend of mine is working on something for school (i have no idea what) and he asked me if i know how to figure this out .... haha I didnt ... but I am horrible at math

CaptainMcMulla
06-25-2009, 10:56 PM
24/25 losing chance, so you times it by 8818 right?

Abeja
06-25-2009, 10:56 PM
Well, if you have a 1 and 25 chance of winning, then you have a 24 out of 25 chance of losing.

Im just gonna guess at this and say 1 in 9185

KnowHowIGotTheseScars?
06-25-2009, 10:58 PM
haha I have no clue thats why im asking you guys ... it seems like it would be higher than 1 and 9,000 somehting

Abeja
06-25-2009, 11:00 PM
Well i just went on a limb with my math. 24/25= 8818/x x=total amount of chances. Cross multiplied. Then just put that number and said 1 in 9185.

KnowHowIGotTheseScars?
06-25-2009, 11:02 PM
to consecutively lose 8818 times in a row .... wouldnt the chances of you winning go up each time you play to?? idk ... i guess not cuz each chance is still 1 and 25

Abeja
06-25-2009, 11:26 PM
K just figured it out. You raise the chances by how many times in a row to the nth power. (24/25)^8818

KnowHowIGotTheseScars?
06-25-2009, 11:42 PM
haha I have no idea how you figured that out ... so wait what would the end result be ... what would the chances be?

doesn't answer the question. Its your homework or math work eitherway and youre given how to do it, so why not just do it? Thats what im asking you and you go whining because... yeah you just do. ;O

actually if you took the time to read my previous post (like you complain about other people not doing all the time) its not my problem .... a friend of mine at school asked me if I knew how to go about figuring it out ... I'm a music major so I dont dive into the math to much .... and I was trying to help out my friend ... thought I might find a math wiz on here

Drazar
06-26-2009, 12:16 AM
Well its 24/25 and then you timed it by 8818 and you get the chances of how much you lose, which lets say is 86% and then you minus the % with 100% on your head and = the chances you win.

24/25 and then on the calculator (mind you im using euro ones so i dunno are US ones different) you press the X button and 8818 number and then you get a nice spam of numbers which your friend hopefully can chance into a % numberage and there he has the chances how often he loses. So then he just sees whats left on the winning chance and theres the answer or thats the image im getting. Its been many months since i did these myself so i could be totally wrong.

Really i'm not trying to be nitpicky here but i presume your friend is doing this for some homework or for the sake of fun? Anyhow its more better to try and get the answers yourself (as in your friend) but ofcourse i enjoy helping how to do it, i just feel direct answers wouldn't teach anything. ;X

EDIT: Yeah i just wanted to make double sure: I'm not picking up a fight, but as i obviously missed the post regarding your friend i should have formulated my post better, but from my perspective i kinda don't wish to just give away the answer because your friend might need the knowledge later on school/whatever and giving away answers doesnt make people learn, yeah i sound like the internet nanny now but its because i care deep inside. <3 :D So yeah my apology if you have felt insulted by the way i post.

Nightwing
06-26-2009, 01:42 AM
If my stats knowledge holds up then I can explain this quite simply. The probability of failure to win is 24/25. Which can also be written as a probability of 0.96 the way in which you decide the overall probability of two outcomes together is to multiply the two probabilities. So if you wanted to lose once and win once, then it would 0.96 multiplied by 0.04 or if you wanted to find out what the probability of losing twice in a row was then it would be 0.96 multiplied by 0.96

Now, so long as I'm understanding the question correctly, you want to know what the probability is of losing 8818 times in a row is, yes? Well is simply 0.96 multiplied by 0.96 8818 times. This can also be expressed more easily as 0.96 to the power of 8818. I just dropped that into my calculator, expecting a rather small number, and my calculator came out with 0. Now Obviously the answer is not zero, but a calculator will do that if the answer is ridiculously close to zero, that it makes no difference. So yeah, the answer is stupidly insignificant. :p

The only other explanation of your question I can think of would be the probability of making that many losses, but also allowing for wins. However that doesn't make sense since we're not given either a probability to be aiming for, or a restricted number of trials (times you played the game/entered the competition/chances for win or loss) which means we're one piece of information short of being able to infer anything from the data.

...Yeah, I used to do stats in my sleep. I picked up a maths A-level entirely because of my stats ability lol.
