I'm a fan of sandbox games and I've always thought it would be awesome if there was an open world Batman game but because of the nature of the char I think it would be difficult as he can't jump far and negotiates building using his grappling hook which in a game is not smooth to play. But I've thought it would work well using the Batman Beyond (Batman of the Future) universe which I am a particular fan of. So I've been thinking what it would be like and wanted to know if others like the idea. So here's my concept.
Story- The player in a 3rd person camera takes control of the new Batman of the Future (Terry Mcginnis) in a futuristic gotham city under the guidence of Bruce Wayne in an original storyline. The player has access to all the abilities of the new batsuit, a range of equipment and the Batmobile and is free to explore the in-game Gotham fighting crime including the Jokerz gang, Cobra and Splicers etc and playing out the story and in the course of the game face various villains such a Shriek and Inque.
Gotham- Future Gotham is a bustling metropolis filled with hover cars and towering skyscrapers and a variety of different districts, the player can also visit locations from the show such as Wayne manor which houses the batcave- Batmanss base of opperations. In the game world the player can fight crime, complete story missions or do a number of side quests, my ideas include missions to help the police provided by Comissioner Barbara Gordon (former Batgirl) and in the Batcave complete training themed assault course challenges and timed race missions in the Batmobile can be found around the city.
Gameplay- My idea for controls based on the 360 controller layout.
LS- Move Batman (Click to crouch/stealth mode)
RS- Camera (Click for 1st person batnocular mode)
A- Jump (press and hold in the air to activate the suits wings and glide)
B- Grab (when in locked on), attach to surface using claws, Enter/Exit Batmobile
X - Punch attacks (hold for more powerful charge up attacks)
Y- Kick attacks (hold for charged)
LB- Calls Batmobile to Batman
LT- Target lock-on
RB- Use selected equipment (hold for manual aim with Battarangs)
RT- Turbo boosters (see bellow).
D-UP- Changes Battarangs to electric
D-DOWN- Changes Battarangs to Freezing
D-LEFT- Previous Equipment
D-RIGHT- Next Equipment
START- Pause
SELECT- Brings up mini map and current objectives.
Gliding & Turbo- When in the air pressing and holding the A button activates the suits wings and allows Batman to glide, pressing the RT(Turbo) while gliding activates the bossters in the suit allowing turbo flight). Pressing the RT while on the ground will boost Terry straight up in a rocket jump, pressing RT while diving will accelerate speed of decent.
Cimbing- Pressing B by a wall/surface allows terry to attach himslef to it using the claws on his suit and climb using the LS. Stealth Mode- Clicking the LS will activate stealth mode whereby the suits cloaking function activate making batman far less easy to spot and he will take a prone stance and move noislessly but slowly. When in stealth mode and an enemy is unaware of Batmans pressence Battarangs do 2X damage and a knock-out puch that takes down normal enmies in one-hit can be performed with X.
Equipment- Batman has access to a wide variety of equipment in addition to the flight, stealth and strenth-enhancing abilities that his suit provides. Such as:
Battarangs (Normal, electric and freezing varieties).
Smoke Bombs,
Flash Bombs
and a grappling gun that can be used to subdue enemies. e.t.c Also in the suits utility belt there is lots of items sch as a microphone for recording conversations, lock pick and hacking tools e.t.c.
The Batmobile- Batman can call the Batmobile (which is now an advanced hovercar) to his location by pressing and holding LB then enter/exit by pressing B.
Batmobile Controls:
LS- Steer Batmobile
RS- Camera (Click for cockpit 1st person view).
A- Air brake
B- Enter-Exit car
X - Fires projectile Spikes (weak)
Y- Fires Electrical charge (strong)
LT- Target lock-on
RT- Accelarate
Upgrades- RPG elements typical of current sandbox games could also be intergrating, using experience points that player gains by completing objetive they can purchase new combos and upgrade Batman's health and increase the damage he performs aswell as upgrade his equipment.
-Just my idea for a game that I think would rock. Any feed-back?
