The Penguin was a morbidly obese child whose mother overdressed him in suits and because his father caught pneumonia in the rain always made him carry an umbrella. Because of the suit his mother would make him wear, and his awkward appearance, the kids mockingly called him Penguin. His mother also ran a pet store where Penguin became fascinated by the birds and they became his closest friends.
Joker has multiple stories but the most widely cited is the origin story in Alan Moore's The Killing Joke, where he is a struggling comedian who helps two crooks try to break into The Monarch playing card company so they can rob it. They try to get in through the Ace chemical plant which is located next door but they are caught. The two crooks are shot by the police and the comedian is accidentally knocked by Batman into the chemicals which morph him into the Joker. In this story he is also married and his wife is pregnant which is why he tries to help the crooks, however, it is revealed they were killed during a break in or something like that, which further contributed to the Joker's insanity.
Two-Face was Gotham's DA and while he Batman and Gordon were trying to bust Carmine Falcone, the cities crime lord, he was scarred by acid. This happened during the trial of Sal Maroni an associate of Falcone's and Falcone's rival. Sal threw the acid in Dent's face and it horribly scarred him. For further information about this I suggest reading Batman: The Long Halloween, which is one of my personal favorites.
Their are like 5 or 6 Clayfaces now so youl'll have to be more specific about those.

1) No origin
2) Rich family, fat kid who was fond with birds.
3) Father was abusive and Edward cheated onto the riddle contest which inspirted him into a perfectionist, his father couldnt believe his son to be so bright so he claimed he cheated and abused him, this caused him to snap into riddles and crime
4) Mobs threw acid on his face in the court, you saw this scene in TDK as a tribute, where the guy pulls the chinese plastic gun instead since acid =/= not workable
5) domina prostitute who gets inspirired by Batman
6) too many origin stories
7) Pretty much the same as in Batman Begins, except didn't do deals with the league of shadows.

You could Just wikipedia them...but in a nutshell
No one knows Joker's TRUE origin, its speculation he was a failed comedian, a petty criminal, or a family man who needed cash but long story short he fell in a chemical vat and got his skin bleached and whatnot and went all crazy.
Penguin - I have No idea tbh
Riddler - No Idea, unless TAS/Batman Forever was right and he went crazy after he gpt fired
Catwoman - In Year one it shows she was in fact a Prostitute who became a Cat Burglar but i Think i remember reading somewhere that she never had sex with the guys, she just robbed them,
Clayface - I'd look on Wikipedia because there's like 7 different Clayface's all with different origins
Scarecrow - Used to be a Psychiatrist/Teacher that specialized in fears and started trying his experiments on people and thus became Scarecrow I believe

Drazer was right about Riddler and Scarecrow was a tall lanky boy who was picked on in school and called scarecrow because of his tall lanky looks. He eventually becomes a teacher at GCU and gets fired after shooting a gun in class. He also did experiments on the students or something.
Oh I just remembered go to www.dccomics.com they have a section listed for official origin stories. It would probably be of great assistance or wiki them. That works too. lol

Hey remember that was just 1 story of joker's origin, don't talk like its cannon. =p The official statement from The Killing Joke is that Joker has no real past.

Just saying the joker "has no real past" is pretty bad ass .... the not knowing how he came to be makes it that much cooler

I just meant that it is the most widely cited whenever an origin story is brought up. The joker even says himself he prefers his past to be multiple choice which I think is cool to. I was just saying the one that most people refer to.
P.S. sorry for the double post

no,i'm sorry if it sounded like i was saying it was canon,i was just telling him what happened in that specific origin, but there are at least 3 different versions of his origin,so i get what you mean.

Hey, didn't it get change it so that Selena was just pretending to be a prostitute and was actually just robbing the people that came to her? I thought they furthered into her story in a later comic, because personally I thought that was the only bad thing in Year One. Bruce don't mess with no sluts:cool: jk.

No problem KnowHowIGotTheseScars? but personally I think my least preferred origin story is that of Killer Moth. Basically he's a villainous Batman knockoff with very low self-esteem. Far from compelling.

Joker has several origins, some more creative than the others, but he has no true origin as far as I recall.

Here's what I dont get about the two face story ...... he was gothams go to guy ... they a mob boss throws acid in his face ... and all the sudden he is a homicidal manic??? what motivates it ...just that one incident???
someone help me out
Hush88

The pain of the injury awakens a dormant second personality inside of Dent's mind. Thus resulting in him becoming Two-Face. The dormant personality is highly homicidal and conflicts with Dent's normally non-homicidal half. Thus the use of the coin to help Dent make decisions.

I'm sure at some point it is officially explained. However, I would imagine that he eventually developed some kind of counter toxin/pheremone for it. Sorry I can't enlighten you to much on that one.

I think your on the right track, since Batman has doses of the fear gas too to make sure he can manage to ignore the hallucinations and render them useless againts himself if he faces Scarecrow.
