PS2 Received a pricecut and is still an excelent system where games go. I don't see this troll attempt since we all know PS3 is the priciest console of the current generation. With 99 dollar blu-ray players coming, Sony definatly _should_ drop the price by the end of the year.

This isn't really news. PS2 is actually the fourth console in the the console war. I think it might have even outsold Wii too a couple of years. Heck, the only reason PS3 is still alive is because of the numbers PS2 was raking in. That's actually why devs still work on current gen. Except of course for Xbox. They were able to move on. What's the point?

The point, as I think you probably can guess, is that with fewer PS3 consoles sold, then EIDOS is looking, quite possibly, at a lower return from the PS3 version of the game than the 360. This thread isn't just arbitrary.

Keir stated that their latest Tomb Raider game sold more on PS3 than Xbox360 (which received an exclusive DLC) So there looking onto the PS3 side since they did good sales on that console even tho Tomb Raider got an exclusive deal.

Again, so? If two people paid you to do a job, wouldn't you work harder for the guy who paid you more money for an additional service? Sony is paying for a service. Whether it is more profitable to do the same with the competitor is irrelevant because said competitor for lack of a better term is "not competing."

True that they are being paid extra for the job at hand. But when you crunch that Microsoft is out of that extra incentive toward the purchase of the game, and more people own the 360, AND more people would be inclined to purchase the content for their 360 version, then EIDOS is still looking at less money in their pockets on the back end of things.
It's about potential for growth.
So, I suppose the real issue is that EIDOS probably shouldn't have signed the "exclusivity" deal and went with both consoles for more money.

Honestly the Joker thing will not decrease sales on the xbox360 version, its a multiplatform game and why would an owner of an xbox360 NOT buy the game? Because he is jealous of 3-6 extra hours the PS3 players gets he decided to ignore the main focus of the game which is: the story campaign.
Honestly Eidos doesn't lose or gain much more money from this exclusive, its not a system seller game since its not an excusive. Its just a deal they did to make a higher chance for people to get the PS3 version if lets say Random-Bob-the-gamer owned both consoles or was tempted between PS3 and the PC. ;)
EDIT: I mean you could argue that Xbox360 would provide more profit because more people own them, but then how do you explain Eidos did better sales on the PS3 even when Xbox360 had the exclusive DLC? :P

The reason why Eidos had better sales on the PS3 than the Xbox360 for Tomb Raider could simply be looked at as a lack of knowledge. The game has been sold with Sony for years and many Xbox owners probably had NO clue that the game even came out for the Xbox360.
Also, this was around the time that Battlefield 2 was coming out for the 360. And many knew that this game rocked on the PS2, so they were hoping for the same return with the 360.

Then the problem is commercialing campaigns. Still just because There are more xboxs (while this DOES seem the obvious choice) you can see it didn't happen for Tomb Raider, so yeah. But this DLC is so minimal, if you compare it to the actual storyline expansions Fallout 3 and GTA 4 have received then the Xbox has the superiour DLCs, sure you can argue "oh btu i dont care for them" but you can say the same for the Joker dlc. Fact is the game will do good on both, and if noone knew about Tomb Raider coming to xbox, i doubt noone will then know about Joker coming to PS3. :P

The amounts that Wii has sold is incredible...Could really become the best selling console of all time. But has a long way to match PS2, that's for sure.

The Fallout 3 expansions were a great idea. I thoroughly enjoy playing them, but the GTA 4 expansion was a joke. I always make sure to play these expansions on someone's Xbox other than mine to ensure the quality of it before I send my money spiraling down the drain to Microsoft.
Many people WON'T know about the Joker coming to PS3 because many people don't even know that this game is coming out. I've talked to 4 of my gaming friends (PS3 and Xbox360 owners) and they had NO clue whatsoever that this game even existed.
360 owners that are clueless to this game coming out will probably find out eventually that the Joker levels are exclusive to PS3 because that is one character that most want to play as. It's the importance of the DLC rather than the fact that PS3 is getting it over the 360. The Joker is just one of those characters that many want to play (thanks to The Dark Knight). And for this, I applaud Sony for grabbing the rights to this because they're trying to do something and that is selling consoles. :thumb:
Some may say that this DLC won't make people buy a PS3 because of the Joker levels, but I'm sure that Sony will have a few things up their sleeves come E3 that will make even 360 owners want a PS3.

MGS4 and the Gran Turismo series are the ONLY reason I purchased a PS3, until.....
The RRoD, now since my XBOX is going back, AGAIN, I'm turning on the PS3 now and then...
Money talks, EIDOS went with Sony fo that reason, ONLY.
I still think the PS3 is a stronger machine, but I guess it's a pain in the ass to write for and it's TOO expensive.

Good point Samtheman53, opening post and argument is like saying that Ford should run a Mustang at the Le Mans rather than a GT based on sales.
Not a very sensible argument TC...
We all know PS3 sales suck, but that has nothing to do with the machine.

It is actually amazing how Microsoft (American) didn't ge tthe deal with Joker (Batman being an american icon, well actually world wide by far now after some awesome movies and whatnot) but Sony managed to catch it. Now really i wouldn't literally speaking say PS3 sales suck, but it is less marketed by Xbox360 approx 5% or so if i recall right outside Japan really, which is huge when you take in count this is world wide numbers. But as i already stated, Keir had said their game did better on PS3 even tho Xbox is obviously the more known console, so they went with the favour of PS3.

Hey, maybe we get it for free now that I think of it. You want to blame someone, blame Microsoft.

Dramatically downgraded. My advice if they ever did make a current gen version is fire and lots of it, lol. Actually, I shouldn't talk all that smack about PS2. Sony did such a good job with it that even now devs are starting to unlock some untapped potential.

Cool deal, McNugget.
I guess you don't see the relation. Have you not noticed the threads where folks are saying "oh, Joker?? Hell, I'm getting this on PS3 then!!"
SO... 10 people hear about Joker on PS3
8 people care about the game
3 people own a PS3 while the other 5 own XB360 (a figure roughed out based on the aforementioned sales news)
Those 3 PoS3 owners get the game and the exclusive
while 2 of the 5 XB360 owners say "to hell with this. I'm not buying until the Joker is available." And 3 people actually go through with buying the game on XB360.
So, you have 3 ps3 and you have 3 XB360 units sold.
Rocksteady and Eidos may get paid a certain amount for the service from Sony, but the potential gains of creating DLC for the XB360 is quite a percentage. Businesses publish games for the potential gains, McNugget.
On a side note, I've played both my 360 and my friends PS3 on my 48" 1080p LCD and I have to say.... 360 just looks better. And I've yet to play a game on 360 that takes 15 minutes to load a new chapter. I'm talkin' to you, MGS!!

Why on earth would any Xbox owner pass out Batman because of 3-6 challange maps? If you wanna backup this argument you gotta show some statistic that Fallout 3 & GTA4 sold less on PS3 by a good %.

I find it hard to be convinced by people who are trying to convince themselves. The game is called "Batman." Deal with it.

Wouldn't have worked. The visuals of this game would have been toned down considerably for the PS2, and developers ordinarily hire a secondary company to handle versions on the older consoles. They need the next-gen tech to handle this game.

Did anyone else think of Hank Hill after reading this and MCREF's allusion to King of the Hill?
And the Joker thing is beyond any of our control; to justify it, we must look at the situation from a business standpoint. If you try to apply any other type of logic to it, it seems ridiculous.

I did an unofficial poll of 360 owners who knew about, and were interested in the game. Of the thirty people I talked to, 1 was considering not getting the game without the Joker. Oddly enough 2 of these people actually are going to buy a PS3 now for the Joker.
Out of the same number of PS3 people, 2 people decided to definitely get the game due to the Joker. If my math is correct, then its a net gain for everybody but Microsoft

I think Eidos and Rocksteady are actually wanting us to go insane.. I mean, the game is called "Batman: ARKHAM ASYLUM".
Maybe they're trying to give us a feel of what it will be like to be Batman inside the asylum.
