View Full Version : Garretts Death?

I absolutely HATE to even THINK it.

But, he is getting on a bit, and EVERYTHING he had been through surely cant have been kind to his health. Despite the healing potions.

If Thief IV is the end of Thief Era, the finale. Will curtains be closed on Garretts life also?

IF he does die, will it be in his bed, nice and snug, old age has taken him. The Master Thief passing peacefully away.

OR will he be KILLED by an enemy, or a sacrifice death to save the City?

Either way, if he dies, I will probably cry.

I'm still holding out for a prequel, so I hope we'll actually see Garrett's rise, not his fall. I think that by the end of Deadly Shadows, Garrett's reached his zenith. He's the True Keeper... that is, if you don't believe that jumping out of the Cradle's window actually killed him, and the last stages were the final mad delusions of his dying mind. Just to, um, shake it up a little. :thumb:

I'm sure Garrett will have more than 4 big adventures in his lifetime. Pagans and Hammers are always trying to establish dominance. And someone as skilled as Garrett will always be needed to clean it up. As cynical and antisocial as he is, Garrett just isn't cold enough to allow innocent people to suffer. After all, he was innocent once, and if it hadn't been for the offer of a random stranger, he likely would have died long ago as a beggar.

"You cannot run from life as you did from us, Garrett. Life has a way of finding you... no matter how artistic a sneak you are."

Garrett isn't the type of hero you kill off in my opinion, as just murdering him would enrage everyone, and making him sacrifice himself for the city isn't very Garrett-ly. The only ending that seems to do Garrett justice is a retirement of sorts, and a handing down of his title to someone else, like that little girl at the end of thief 3. That or he will just be a thief forever, and only hand down the keeper powers to the girl.

Thief 4: "Garrett going slowly insane doing all the necessary paperwork the Keepers used to do to keep things in order."

I'm not sure why you think Garrett is getting old. Most of the Thief games seem like they only take a year or 2 apart.

If he was in his 20s in Thief 1, he's probably still in his 20s.

I had him pegged nearer 30.

I think -when- he does die (hopefully not at the end of T4), that it should be as a sacrifice. He will eventually find something or most likely someone that will make him care enough to sacrifice himself to give them a future in the city. We all know Garret as the dark guy who only helps himself or people who can help him, but in the end the city has been kind to him, so why wouldn't he be kind to the city in return? If nothing else, at least so someone else can have their day :)

I think the most fitting exit is for him to fade away into legend, without his true fate ever being revealed.

The only way I want Garrett to die is the way that involves his classic death-scream:
*splat*YAAAEEEAAARGH! :naughty:

Yep, totally agree with that.

QFT! :thumb: I agree, at the end of the last Thief game we should not see Garrett die.

I know people like cheese, but come on. Thief is actually a lot more than just Garrett. Serving as a parallel, Tomb Raider is not more than Lara Croft.

If a story is meant to serve as the conclusion of anything, recording a demise is both very logical to do and satisfying to witness.

Despite the healing potions.

maybe there should be a level where he has to break out of rehab for getting addicted to healing potions and commited as a result of his addiction.

ok, so that was a cheesy joke, but I couldn't help myself.

I really love this idea ^_^

Garrett IS mystery, and this demise for him suits him very well.

The Master Thief, fading away into shadows. Never to be heard of again, but always living on as an undying legend. The best thief there ever was.

Farewell Garrett, you will live on my friend

What's cool is that if he fades away, he can come back and it won't be a resurrection. But he shouldn't die or fade unless Eidos never wants to make another Thief game.

Garret to die? Well, if they really would pout together fantastic story line+ great gameplay and world which will get you immersed, then maybe I will cope with it. But it would be far more better, if he would just retire or something like that :)

Even if he died, he'd go on with thieving... Possibly the Builder or the Thiefverse equivalent of Satan :D:D

my question, is will taking a healing potion stop a heart attack, or remove cancer? o.O

Since it couldn't get his eye grow back, I say no.

I don't see Garrett as the kind to make a heroic sacrifice, he's too selfish and cynical. However, I do kind of see him retiring and perhaps becoming a kind of "hermit living in the mountains" kind of character. So IF there's going to be a new character leading the Thief series, he or she could stumble across him and be trained by the best.

HAHAahahah

Point well made. "It can heal sword wounds, remove arrows from your very flesh, and make you feel like you just woke up from a perfect sleep, it can even---" "Can it grow lost hair back!?" "...um... no..."

It cuts off blood loss and seals the flesh, and amplifies the natural healing factor without needing sustenance to build tissues from, but just as we humans cannot regenerate lost organs (except for the liver, but we have to have enough of it intact to do so), there's no reason for an organ to grow back.
