View Full Version : BURRICKS - The Appreciation Thread

I want to see Burricks again. I did not really like the 3rd level of the original series, where you fought them almost exclusively in tight underground spaces, but I liked them in general. (I hated them at first, but there is a level later where they burrow into some dude's treasure vault. I started to really love them then.)

They remind me of a twist from the semi-classic "using a sand worm's tunnel" idea.

I would most love to actually see Burricks at some point, similar to the level where they burrow into a person's home. Or perhaps they could be kept as pets. I wouldn't want a whole level of them, and I would want it easier to knock them out (their "kill zone" in Thief 1 was very hard to hit with arrow, and you had to get dangerously close to them very quickly to knock them out which was near impossible in the long tight tunnels without being seen)

I liked in Thief 2 how there was a head of one mounted on a wall. That was at least a nod towards their existence even if they did not appear.

In T3, wasn't there an epitaph under the hammerite fort mentioning them? It was like, 'Ramirez, much loved by his burricks'

Ha ha, I'd forgotten about the Burricks. It was fun listening to them sing along with the Horn of Quintas. Another vote for Burricks!

I'm glad to see people are in general support.

I do recall that mentioning in T3, but that was all we got really. (I want to say somebody used Burrick as an insult to somebody else as well)

I think they were by far my most favorite non-humans. I wouldn't go as far as to say they were "adorable" but they had a bit of personality (more than I can really say for the trees or rat men). I guess some people like them... as pets.

Yes.

Just makes sure they are used the same way they are in the actual Thief games, as a dangerous subterranean animal.

Some of the mods have these ideas of domesticated burricks and the notion of domesticating an animal that breath's poison gas is kind of ridiculous.

True, well,Ramirez did domesticate them, but in a metal enforced underground enclosure.Burricks gas is definately flamable,so that could mean a burrick noticing Garret near an open flame could result in pure awesomeness.(or Garret shooting a flame arrow through a burricks gas attack,if the burrick is attacking something/someone)

If they could make them more playable, certainly. But having just played through the Bonehoard this morning I'd rather not have them back if it can be helped.

Burricks will always have a place in our hearts!
I hope the OP doesn't mind that I took the liberty to edit thread title (ever so slightly) by adding "- the appreciation thread". :D

Burricks are adorable, and I use that word without any hesitation. They are very similar to dogs in many ways, even the appreciation! For example some people think of dogs as being very messy, very boisterous, very hairy... while other people absolutely love and adore dogs! I am one of these people :)

The Burricks looked very good as well, however I only recently realised that my usual perception of them has been wrong ever since I saw the original concept art of a Burrick. The concept art clearly shows them being orange skinned with wet greasy hair draped around them, while I always thought the 'greasy hair' was more like scales or something (like some sort of dinosaur).

The Burricks similarity to dogs is really what endears them to me - the sounds they make as a prime example (huffing and panting when fleeing, and even howling when finding another dead/unconscious burrick!)

My problem with the Burrick as an enemy is the problem I have with most of the enemies I don't like, there's no stealthy way to dispatch them.

Making their breath flammable could add some really interesting gameplay elements to them. Like tossing a flare in it's mouth causes it to go up like a Dodongo. That's still not stealth, but at least it's awesome.

Breathing that gas was genius. I find them rather cute especially the babies.

.

Thats actually not true. They have a place just at the base of the neck that will kill them by broadhead arrow with 1 hit, and they can be knocked out by black jack if you hit them on the top of the head without them seeing you. (this of course is very difficult since you can't stand behind them, and they see you if you're in front of them)

I usually got them either by arrow, or by luring them down a corridor by a sound, then jumping at them from the side. In the second where they rear back in surprise, they can still be knocked out. (I usually had to save and try it a few times before it would work)

Arrows aren't really stealthy kills as they let out a death wail that agroes every other burrick in the area.

I love burricks, for two reasons. 1- they were the only animals in game.
2- They were the only AIs who seemed to feel pity when they saw their dead buddies. Other AIs had cynical reactions, some were frightened, or incredulous and angry. But only burricks weep with grief. From the very first time I saw them they moved me. For that reason I try to never kill a burrick, I always blackjack them. (of course, yes, you can :D)

They spit some sort of poisonous gas. So, for that, they get the sword.

I like how in T3 'BURRICKS!!!11' was a curse word

The burrick is pretty
but smells like a fart.

There now, I've counted up three out of four. Burricks must come back, or I'll rhyme some more!

You can absolutely knockout burricks. I have accomplished it in many FMs, OMs and tested it in the editor itself.

They knockout very easily, actually. If they turned around on you, then likely they were already at a higher alert stage. It's happened to me with guards before.

No.... No "bosses." The whole point of being a thief is to AVOID huge battles. :(

Also, Burricks seem to have more of a "pack" mentality, like wolves. They even howl when they find another dead Burrick. There could be alpha BUrricks or such though. Just no "queens."

EDIT: I should have read your post more carefully. -_- Thought you were being serious, lol.

You can blackjack burricks in both the games they appeared in, just lean forward and whack them on the nose and they go down like a sack of potatoes.

I also have to go out and say that clearly you have not been taffing around like some of us have! While it does depend on the alertness of the Burrick... it is so easy to blackjack burricks. You can practically treat them like any other human guard.

They deserve to return (with a nicely re-imagined design). They're the closest thing to a dragon in the Thiefverse, and that just adds to their coolness factor... :-P :-D And, as many have mentioned, they're also quite silly and likeable critters... :-)

You don't have to kill them you know. Most times they are easily avoided or easy to sneak past. I don't think I've ever found it necessary to kill one.

You can out run them, walk right in their tracks behind them, sneak by when they turn away to return on their journey, or stand in a shadow as they lumber by. That is if you learn their habits and how to skulk. :)

Absolutely, yes. I have never had to kill or maim a burrick, they are easy to avoid with a little thiefy-patience... or if they see you, just run away and hide for a bit. Burricks are quite docile and slow really. :)

We want Burrick-flavoured lollipops, plushy Burricks, plastic Burricks that make Burrick sounds, Burrick aroma (a drop of it cleans out your place instantly!), Burrick-watches, humorous Burrick wallclocks, Hello Burrick-stuff and Burrick keyhangers. Documentary movies about the lives of Burricks, Burrick reservation, and that WWF makes the Burrick its logo instead of the panda.:D

You see, we damn love Burricks, EM!:)

BTW. It was nice - first time I saw burrick in Bonehoard tunnels and had impression that it is sort of dragon like monster and it was scary. Later in Assasins they introduced burricks like pets and then never in FMs I had feeleing they are very dangerous.
