Mission: Return to the Cathedral/ Ramirez' Castle

Character: Garrett. (seriously, best character ever?) I still think he should be a more shadowy (geddit?!) character this time round.
Edit: Next best? Constantine.

Faction: Pagans

Item: Rope Arrows!

City Location: The large scale structures like the Cathedrals

Bonus (any misc concept): Thief 2 sized levels are a must. Hell, maybe even an actual city like you see in the backdrop of T: DS's menu. I want to get lost!

As someone who has been working on The Dark Mod team for nearly 5 years now, my suggestion would be "leave Eidos Montreal alone" and let them make the game. They have the games for reference, and I'm sure they're well aware of the bad mistakes made in Thief Deadly Shadows. I wonder if anyone at Eidos Montreal has tried Dark Mod...

Well fair enough, but offering suggestions doesn't hurt... they don't have to read them if they don't wish to... :)

Fav Mission: Life of the Party, Assassins,
Faction: The Keepers (Bring back the mystery please. I don't want to see their faces and hear them speak as though they are the same as everyone else. They aren't, that's the point.)
Item: Lock Picks and Water Arrows. Anything more than that is just icing.
City Location: Cathedrals and open city environments. (City environments need to be cramped and imposing. In Thief 2, the roof tops were high! I remember using the zoom on my mechanical eye to watch the people far below. In Thief 3, you were maybe three floors up, and I think that is a bit generous.)
Bonus: The movies. For the love of God, please do not use the same style as TDS. The original style of cut scenes and pre-mission movies were fantastic (and were one of the best elements in TDS when they were used) but to use in-game sequences took a lot away from the world and made it seem less dark, less foreboding and less mysterious.

At this point I don't think you will ever curb people's enthusiasm. I have less than 100 posts in 6 years and Ive already posted a few times today. It's to be expected, but I am happy to have the Dark Mod referenced here. You guys are doing amazing work, and I bought a copy of Doom 3 just for it.

The most important thing I want is the same setting. I've heard rumors of that game being done in a modern day setting and I think that would be terrible. That said, here are my answers:

Mission: Life of the Party and Running Interference
I like the missions where you get to sneak through houses, offices and mansions. They are kind of mundane, but I like them. I liked Thief 2 much better than Thief 1 because I didn't like all the weird missions with monsters and zombies and psychedelic monkey beats.

Character: Benny

Item: Rope Arrows
You gotta love being able to get around on the roofs.

City Location: The persistent city in Thief 3
I know some people didn't like this, but I loved the idea of the persistent city that you would wander through between the missions of Thief 3. I thought it added glue to the missions and helped you get some bearings since you had to literally walk from one mission to the next. I thought it was a good start, but I would like to see something even more sophisticated in the next game.

Bonus (any misc concept): Secrets
I loved having to hunt for all the secrets and hidden loot. I have played all three games numerous times and still haven't found anywhere near all the secrets and loot. It makes it more enjoyable to replay because every time I know there's something new I might find.

For myself:
Mission: Life of Party....the visuals, the numerous places to explore, being way up high like that was cool too

Character: aside from Garrett, it would have to be Benny

Item: rope arrow (not even vine so much) this is probably one of the few tools (excluding the blackjack...or sword if I am going up against undead or beasties) that gets the most use for me.

City Location: rooftop city areas, jumping down to balconies, sneaking through apartments, breaking in through windows, all great fun.

Faction: Keepers

Bonus (any misc concept): the glyphs in T3 were fun but they have no possible use in T4 being as the glyphs are gone; so I would have to go with the open city idea, it added a new dimension...but it was too small and poorly implemented in T3. What I found really ridiculous how small those sections were made to be when they have larger areas for the missions. Why not make each section at least the max size. :mad2: So annoying.

For my brother:
Mission: Maw of Chaos (Trickster ceremony and the coolness of going down into the Maw) and Assassins (had to trail guys who thought they killed you to get revenge)

Character: besides Garrett, Viktoria (cause she is so freakin' cool)

Item: (besides blackjack) gas arrows

City Location: Life of Party rooftops

Faction: Keepers (or pagans cause of their funny speechsies)

Bonus (any misc concept): pre-mission cutscenes from T1/G/2

Mission: Sabotage at Soulforge (Thief 2) Now THAT was a great final level. Massive, difficult, scary, imposing, epic in every sense. (read: Great FINAL level. Not every mission should be this extreme.)

Character: Other than Garrett: The Grey lady. I dunno, something about that "evil old hag" aspect just scares me. o_o; She seemed the most ruthless and dangerous of Garrett's foes.

Item: Moss Arrow.

City Location: Ramirez's Turf. (Assassins mission, Thief 1)

Bonus (any misc concept): Bizarre, warped architecture and very large tombs/dungeons. (Constantine's Mansion, The Bonehoard)

Mission: Can I just put down "every level from Thief Gold and Thief 2?" It's hard trying to pick just one... The ones that really stick out are Cragscleft, Song of the Caverns, the Bonehoard, the Lost City, Undercover, Return to the Cathederal, Shipping and Receiving, First City Bank, Life of the Party, Markhams Isle, Framed and Eavesdropping. To be honest there's more but I'd say those are the most memorable.

Character: Sherrif Truart. It was cool having someone in the city guard really out to get me.

Item: Rope arrows were the most used item after the blackjack and water arrows.

City Location: The Thieves Highway.

Bonus (any misc concept): Large levels with secrets hidden away all around.

Faction they were, but I mean thank god they werent an interactive faction like what the keepers had become in TDS.thae keepers were a facton in thief 1-2,but making them have full, ingame interaction with Garrett in TDS completely spoilt the "secretive" aspect of their organisation.I kinda enjoyed the keepers in my imagination much more, thanks to the way LGS portrayed them in T1-2.TDS had me wondering how the hell did Garrett become the master he is by being trained by these dudes!?

I certainly thought of them as a faction, obviously not in the same class as the mechanists or pagans.

My favourites:

Missions: Life of the Party and an Unwelcome Guest(T2 demo), Pagan Sanctuary, Shipping..., Abysmal Gale, Framed!

Fan Missions: Rocksbourg series, CoSaS 1&2, Bane series, Mystic Gems series, T2X, Pirates Ahoy! series

Mission: Ambush! (no one's put this one down yet, I believe. :()

Characters: The Eye (cheeky, cheeky rock)

Faction: Keepers: I don't really like any of the factions, in general, but the keepers are a heck of a lot of fun to blackjack. Satisfying

Item: I'm going to divide this up:
1. Usefulness: Gas arrows; I cheat.
2. Fun: Oil Flasks

City Location: Thieves' Highway

Bonus (any misc concept): Conversations between city members. Especially those two guards in TDS, talking about the one guard's medical troubles. :)

OK just to help them understand why we loved Thief please select ONE answer for each from ANY thief title:

Favourite...

Mission: The visit to Widow Moira's mansion in Thief: Deadly Shadows. The music that went with the mission, the sudden changes in goals, and the level design *rocked*.

Character: I'll add two: Garrett, and Inspector Drept. Garrett is a well-designed anti-hero, and Drept's character worked as a Hammerite priest who didn't blindly follow scripture.

Item: The Eye in TDS. A sentient artifact that mocked you while you were in contact with it :).

City Location: The Wieldstrom Museum. Complex and well designed with minor puzzle-solving (re: the electrical fields guarding the sentient items).

Bonus (any misc concept): Eric Brosius' soundtrack rocked, and I liked the color pallette used in TDS to illustrate how it was constantly night :).

I should also add my favourite faction was the Keepers from T1&2 (I agree with most that TDS ruined the mystery behind them.)

And obviously Garrett is my favourite character as well but I thought that was a given and we weren't meant to be mentioning him :rasp:

Characters: Sinclair & Benny

BTW has anyone ever considered that Sinclair and Benny are the same person? Since Benny had probably been Truart's personal guard for a long time, his friends in the mansion would call him by his first name. Since Truart died, he lost his job and applied for the City Watch and got the job. He was a new guy there, so he was called by his last name. That's why I think that his real name was:

Bernhard "Benny" Sinclair

Whoa, relax. Yes, I played the first two games. I played them *years* ago.

Don't get me wrong: there were a lot of good things from T1 and T2, but for me --and I know I'm in the minority on this-- T3 had so much more going for it over T1 and T2, specifically in regards to missions, graphics, soundtrack, and overall feel. That's why I put TDS-based answers.

this is not a good way to design a game, even a sequel, the only things thief 4 has to focus on is a gameplay based on stealth, not have dumbed down enermies, a good story line, and a decent set of equipment, and not for the game to go silly halfway through.

Mission: Life Of The Party. Running around on those rooftops made me feel almost like Daredevil. Except with vision. Although I felt the Museum in DS was an inspired one.

Character: Garrett of course. :) But if not him, then Benny for comic relief. Although I did grow rather fond of Lieutenant Mosely simply from reading her journal.

Item: Rope/Vine Arrows. DEFINITELY A MUST HAVE FOR THE NEXT GAME!!!

City Location: The Thieves Highway. Rooftop travel is a must, or rather the option for it.

Faction: The Keepers. I'm with the majority in saying DS took away a lot of their mystique. Still, I can see the Keepers making another appearance in the next game, I just think it would be logical to rely more on their stealth skills and training rather than glyphs seeing as how those are gone.

Bonus (any misc concept): I thought the City, as a map to play around in in between missions, was a good concept that was poorly implemented, mainly because of the loading zones and how disproportionate it felt in general. I liked having places around town to explore, as well as the optional side quests.

BTW has anyone ever considered that Sinclair and Benny are the same person? Since Benny had probably been Truart's personal guard for a long time, his friends in the mansion would call him by his first name.
