here: There's nothing quite like having the breaks suddenly and forcibly applied to the hype train. That's what happened to the upcoming Arkham Asylum, which was being heavily promoted at outlets like GameStop when it was abruptly delayed into the fall. According to Eidos president Ian Livingstone though, the game has been delayed for the right reasons.
"We're expecting review scores in the 90s and clearly when you have an amazing game like Arkham Asylum, you want to maximize its potential," he told GamingIndians.

"So we think it's worthwhile going that slightly extra distance to make it the game it has to be. We're immensely proud of what we've created so far."

Livingstone went on to praise developer Rock Steady, adding that "no one is going to be disappointed because we've put in an enormous effort into it." As an example, he said "there was one person working on nothing but the cape for two years, so there are over 700 animations and sound clips attached to the cape alone. That's why it looks so beautifully realistic."

When the delay was announced, Arkham Asylum's new release date was pegged for "end of summer 2009." Livingstone didn't get any more precise than that, saying that a new date hasn't yet been announced. However, "I can tell you it's this year."

ya.. jeez, after two years of just cape physics then you would think they would have fixxxed it!!

hopefully they're fixxxing it up right now with the extra time they've got!

cape clipping doesnt happen that often. you didnt see it because they drew the clean version of gameplay. And they have to go through the whole game and fix the cape.

same with the demo. It got every body's hopes up when the release date was 23rd. Not it has to sit there for ________ months.

Well the development of the cape is fine its just that when they implemented it onto the Batman character that they found the clipping issues because they were created separately...at least thats my theory.

metacritic says october 1st, but it also says this supports 4 player multiplayer, so i wouldnt trust it too much :p

That sounds like they're planning to push it back even further...

Though it may also mean the dates been moved closer, which would explain the reviews next month...

my theory on the whole "staying tight lipped about the release date" is that there actually not delaying it as such.theyve just removed the release date entirely until this thing with square enix smooths over. as soon as they come to somekind of calm then they will release it.

i mean,the whole marketing is in turmoil, mags dont know when its out,game retailers dont know when its out.
something just doesnt fit
from a game that was going to be released in another months time it just doesnt seem right.hope im wrong.i mean i wouldnt mind if it was confirmed for q4 at least that would be something firm.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. I think that the problem is with Square Enix so I'm hoping that while they fix that problem that they are polishing the game. I hope that the game comes out in July but I doubt it.

They started at first of a small team and the team got bigger over time and time. Also when you got BATMAN as the title, you don't wanna mess things up, especially if your a small company who have been known from1 game before, which had medicore/decent reviews. This game might be the game that makes Rocksteady into a famed British company or it could make them utterly worthless and have Eidos sell their stock holds over them, since they are owned 25% by Eidos or so. =p Also Eidos hasn't done financially that well for the last few years, so they really don't wanna ruin this Batman franchise opportunity.

You also gotta take in note the developers didn't know what kinda game they wanted, so they just chose "Batman" catagory and started adding everything that defines Batman.
