View Full Version : Anyone just teased with the demo?

Stopped into Gamestop today and, sure enough, the PS3 was there awaiting my eager hands.

Well, oddly enough, I played 1 round... okay and a little more so I could throw a batarang. Then I called it quits. Frankly, I don't want to spoil it too much!! Anyone on board with this school of thought?

Oh, and the guy behind the counter said he's pretty sure that the CE batarang is made of metal... we'll see.

I did! Quite a bit, actually.

When you're fighting, notice that the bad guys get these blue lightning rods around their heads which indicates an attack. You hit the triangle (and I assume this will be "Y" on 360), and Batman counters. It's a LITTLE similar to the Spidy-sense on Spider-Man 2 and 3, but the free-flow combat is much less clunky.
I liked the slow-mo on the major hits and finishing moves, but I could see how that might get old after a while.
I'd like to see the graphics on the 360. PS3 was good, but there was some aliasing that kind of bugged me as I was watching. Then again, the monitor may have been sub par.
Anyway, like I said, I didn't play very much. But it was a great tease.

My girlfriend was like, "Are you going to tell the boys on the forum tonight?"

And so, I did.

Did the other guys just stand there as you fought one of them? Also, how were the character models and voice acting? Cape clipping? Detailed environments?

i played the demo, and from what i saw the ai of the thugs was pretty decent. they dont just stand around. at one point a thug ran over to near by wall to open what i assume was an electrical box to pull out a pipe to beat me up with as the other thugs came at me with kicks and punches. very action packed...

Nah, the other guys moved around. They waited to get their shot in at times, I guess you could say. The clipping was not a problem; when you are in the heat of battle you don't have a lot of time to nitpick, you know? But I didn't notice any problems with the cape.
I couldn't hear the voice overs; the volume was really low and they had trailers running on a tv behind me. Character models are rad! I really love the tear in Batman's costume. Same goes for Arkham's texture maps and layout. It all feels very claustrophobic, but in a good way. :thumb: I think we'll be pleased come June 23rd.

Sound's awesome. Also, it would be really neat if Clayface was in this, fighting him would be hard.

I've mused over this idea too! I wonder how that would be pulled off. Speaking of Clayface, it'd be cool to see not a shape-shifter but a master of disguise called Clayface in the Nolan films, don't you think?

Who knows, man. We'll just have to wait and see.

I agree, I think Nolan could manage to make the character work.

Yeah. There's not a Nolan film I haven't liked to date. Looking forward to whatever happens in part 3.

Tried the demo today. Voice Acting (only heard Mr. J) was awesome. The only bad part... *sees forum goers start to foam @ mouth* was the controller. Overused, so the signal to the system was screwy from excessive wear. The game itself.. heck, the DEMO gets a 10 from me, and some major releases couldn't do that. (only 1 person, I know, but still...)

You really should've played the whole thing... it didn't give away anything you won't already know from reading these boards, just gets progressively harder with each of 4 waves. It ended after the fourth wave - there wasn't anything else.

The demo was excellent.

True. But if a demo comes out on XBL, what would keep me from passing? I mean other than simply not getting enough Batman in my daily life, of course. ;)

Man I went to Gamestop and there were all of these posters. I looked at the ps3 stand and there was an icon on there of the game. They had the demo. I restarted the ps3 and it wouldn't load. I lost my chance in order to try the demo. I did not check the 360 and maybe I should have

Couldn't hurt next time you're in there, but I haven't seen it yet.

I think the Demo was a bit too easy. Granted there appears to be 20 more challenges to unlock in the full game. Bats can easily combo through 15 opponents by aiming the d pad and hitting square. As long as you pick the right path through the room you can easily attack every thug with one button and the d pad… The cape stun and bat-arang are novelties in these early stages. There are gun cases on the walls that the thugs will attempt to open. This sounds an alarm and you can attack said thug immediately to prevent him from opening the case. In the last level of the “expert” mode there is a thug wielding two knives, his attacks can’t be countered. This is signified by red lightning bolts instead of blue. He blocked an attack or two in my most recent play through, when before he went down without a fight. Some thugs are more aggressive than others, running to close distance and attack. In a room of 20 ordinary thugs, there is NO threat to a capable player. If you let them get to the guns and miss a counter or two things MAY get a little dicey.

Besides that, how were the visuals and combat animations? Did you enjoy it overall?

Oh hell yeah, I should have clarified that. Picture the beat downs in the Dark Knight, only this Batman is much more agile. Lots of catching kicks, great dodges, and smooth transitions, especially with the counter moves. The graphics seem good to me, but all the really great screenshots we’ve all seen are kind of moot in the demo, every thing goes very fast and the camera is pulled out too far to appreciate character detail. The cape does move very well, which does make me wonder, why has no one every grabbed Batman’s cape in a fight? There are also some blurs that they incorporated when Batman troughs a hay maker that I would have left out. I don’t remember the lighting jumping out at me either, I wonder if I just didn’t notice?

The thing i enjoyed the most was just walking calmly right in the middle of the group of thugs and waiting for one to attack me. I'd counter and go about kicking everyone's a**.
It made me feel very Batman like :D . Thats how i started every single brawl.

I've never read the comics... Is Batman suppost to be able to beat twenty common thugs without so much as a scratch? I'm not against it, just curious.

Batman is supposed to be very skilled in martial arts, but also in the world of stealth. This is the reason why if he does happen to fall upon a group of thugs that he needs to manhandle, it will get done.
