Couldn't find a topic here with this information...
Sorry if it's double posted.

Anyhow, I found that article just now and well.

Ugh, just saw that this has been widely discussed.

Oh well, perhaps it might be news for some of you that this article hit IGN anyhow.

It seems like Eidos is trying to make a new Ion Storm. I don't know why... when they just closed the first one down only a few years ago. :(

What you are going to get is a Call of Duty game, named "Thief 4."

Lol, "Thief 4: Modern Skullduggery"

:D

Just be thankful SplinterCell has been laying low as a series. Otherwise, they would have been ripping off the "Assassin's Creed" elements to SplinterCell: Conviction.

Oh boy...some journalists think I believe the font on the teaser banner matches an official Thief font. When you taffers start reading these things, please keep in mind these journalists didn't do their jobs and pounced on an unanswered question that they interpreted as me identifying one font as another. I did not. But I'm still enjoying my 15 seconds of fame.

Never feel bad about stirring up the online press. Knee-jerk reporting like this just goes to show why print was better.

Gamespot: "One diehard fan on the dieharder Through the Looking Glass forums noticed that the font used in the teaser banner is very similar to that used in previous Thief games"

Enjoy the fame :D

The comments in that link are hilarious, "Ubi Montreal" ... "STEALTH ACTION RPG!!!!!!" ... "Who is the rip off, this thief or Altair?" :D

Thief always had better stealth mechanics than Assassin's Creed.

Thief has always had better stealth mechanics than any game

Assassin's Creed stealth is mediocre. You can kill someone out in the open in a stealth assassination and no one will notice you were the last person near him to make him fall down. Blood does not stay on the ground to alert people faster. Enemies don't pick up on sound detection so if you made a loud noise behind a guard in an area you're not suppose to be he will not notice. If you hit an innocent with a sword they will run screaming to a guard for help but the guard won't help. I am not finished with all of Assassin's Creed's stealth mechanics but that is most of them.

I hated how you'd have to hide in a mosque or a pile of hay, without anyone seeing you go near them, in order to hide. It was more realistic, sure... but it got annoying after the fifth time you were seen JUST ABOUT to go into one.

Not sure if this has been posted but Kotaku apparently emailed Eidos about the rumours and Eidos replied saying that they would have to wait till the 11th of May. So the moment of truth is almost upon us.

Now an advertisement in the latest issue of Edge Magazine teases the studio's next project being announced on May 11th, listing accolades such as Gamespy's "Hall of Fame" and Gamespot's "Greatest Games of All Time" and "Ten Best Heroes in Gaming." Inquisitive Gamespot forum goers did some searching, and determined that only one series fit all three bills - Thief.

There really is only one game they could be announcing, but we're going to leave this as a rumor until we receive any sort of official collaboration. We've contacted Eidos Montreal for comment, only to receive a not-unexpected no comment response.

Thanks for your interest, but unfortunately for now you will have to wait on the 11th of May.

Stay tuned next week for the official announcement. You might want to start practicing your surprised look in the mirror.

Every sign makes it pretty clear that it's Thief 4. What the real question is whether we'll get a gameplay video, or if it will just be a weak teaser and some concept art...

Reaper200

Exactly my thoughts. They build up all this hype about the 11th of May and then all we get is an announcement which would normally be good enough (i mean its Thief 4!!!) but seeing as they've been teasing us the past half a year or so i think we deserve something more.

A gameplay video would be nice of course but I'd be happy with a teaser and some concept art too. :) Only 3 more days, I can't wait! :nut:

Will be interesting to see what will come at the 11th.

Might Square Enix have any say about Thief 4 perhaps, anybody know how involved SE are in Eidos atm?

As far as I know they are leaving EM alone to do their job.

Can't wait for one (1) concept art and a trailer that just shows the title "Thief 4."

I just know that's all it will be. Hopefully E3 will have more.

Necros

I think we might get some concept arts but the teaser is for E3, according to an interview.

Less than 24 hours to go!

If all they have for E3 is a "teaser" they're going to get buried. They need a full-on epic trailer if they hope to stand out at E3 and make enough noise to get noticed over the other hardcore games.

WhatsHisFace

I wonder if we'll get the concept art based on European time, or California time.

I also need to just butt out more in that forum. I've forgotten how completely pointless it is to try and convince idiots that they're wrong about something.

Think of it as visiting Grandma's house. Grandma is set in her ways. There is no convincing her otherwise. Its this way, and thats that! Well, sorta. :P
Still have to tread lightly around here sometimes. TTLG you know you can speak your mind.

Also, I see so many n00bs, that really don't have a clue on so many things, some do, some don't, again, some do, some don't.
For me, and I am sure for a lot of you here. Yes, its fun to read the speculation. Then posts will start to repeat over and over again. I don't know about you, I don't have time to sift through countless threads of BS and hype, wants from so many people. It can be fun sometimes to read, sure, of course. Overall, no one will remember squat what was said, once things are made known to us.

I want the facts, the who, what, when, where, etc. We've been there before. After awhile the blah blah blah gets boring sometimes. The future isn't here yet. I will continue to concentrate on the here and now, with one eye on the future. While still playing the fan missions, beta testing various things, and have a good time. While the rest......we just wait. Just some thoughts.

True enough, it's quite tiresome to read through everything being said there. I find many of the speculations quite interesting though
But most ideas are only bad ideas coming from someone that wants a bit of attention ^^

But yeah, we can't do much but wait really, meanwhile I'll try to get Thief 1&2 working properly on my computer again to refresh all the good memorys :)

BrokenArts

Not that I don't appreciate all that is being said in those threads mind you. Pure speculation, some of it is fun to read, there is a lot of it. I just sift through what grabs me.

You definitely should try to get Thief running again, if you need help, depending on your system, there are taffers here and on TTLG that can help you. There are so many good FM's out now, and a big one is going to be released here pretty quick. It will be around 160 meg or so. Thats with a briefing, custom voice work, it looks great.

Will Eidos release what the actual basic storyline for thief 4 is actually to be, because all the stuff on the thief 4 forums makes it sound like its going to be a horrible game.

Hopefully in time, I think they are looking through the forums to get some general opinions but I do believe that they already have an own idea of what the game will look like :)
But it will probably take some time before we'll et any sort of information on the game itself.

BA: Yeah, I know how to get it working, it's just that my Vista have had some problem with it, not only has it been the "set affinity" problem, but many other random crashes. I'll look into it soon again :)
Sounds interesting with a new big FM coming out :D
That would be awesome to play if so :)

am just hoping that the thief 4 forum on ttlg doesn't go down the same path as the bioshock forum did, there were a lot of posts on there all the way through development of bioshock constantly flaming irrational and members of irrational's bioshock development team that visited the forum. and bioshock wasn't even system shock, yet a lot of the flamers seam to think it was system shock.

Hi everyone. Been browsing through the T4 forum and I am in agreement. That's some mudpile over there. Hard to sift through it to what I can find interesting. Did not even feel like posting myself. At least not yet. I will keep checking it to see what I can see.

Am pretty happy about a new upcoming Thief game though. :)

All you can do is add to the discussion exactly what you think is lacking.
