lost golden skull from inventory in Xibalba, PS3

I've picked up all necessary items and have locked in the calendar puzzle 1, but the calendar puzzle 2 doesn't acknowledge that I have the skull. I've retraced all my steps and still the gold rectangular hole doesn't enable me to interact with it.

Is this yet another glitch? :mad2:

I had this problem too, but you just have to stand in a particular way and then it goes in. Try approaching and interacting from different angles until it clicks in.
