I was very disappointed to see that there were noooooo boss battles in this game!!!!! I mean come on Natla DIES IN A CUTSCENE wtf!!!!!!!!:mad2: ****  :( I really would have liked to have a boss at the end of a level like the dino in tr1 and trA and an end battle like ALL THE OTHER GAMES!!!!! I was very impressed though with all the other things she is able to do. But it just seemed really easy even on SUPER hard mode. Come on guys give us things to shot!!!!! It was more like a strategy game than a action/adventure. :mad2:[

Coming from a person that has been playing this series basically since it first came out and has every game in the series (no im not a TR weirdo freak) this new game is kinda weak.... yes the grapics, sounds, etc. are nice but the whole TR exp. the boss battles, the big ammo finds, the parts of the game you get stuck on for like 3 days... thats classic and yes some things must die in order for new to arise but the boss battles and the exploration is what made this game what it is today sooooooo...... why change it just make it better and better each time.... I mean come on look at WOW for godsake they have 25-40 man raids which are considered boss battles its not an old ideal. Even gears of war has a end game boss battle........??????

TRU was like exploring for the major part.. and it was already known weeks before the game was releasd that there were going to be no boss battles..

I wasn't referring to the boss battles. The spoiler was fixed already.

At least you guys got to fight the spiders and ****.

In the Wii version, there are NONE. ZIP. ZILCH. NON.
:(

I would have taken crappy-designed spiders than none at all.
No fun.

I haven't played yet, but I am glad there are no boss fights in TRU. I thought they were a nuisance in TRA. All that combat was tedious for me. No real skill or puzzle to solve to beat them, just pump them with lead and you had to learn the AD to get past them.

@LC, no spiders? No way! I hate spiders, but I wanna squish em...

I appreciated the "no boss battles" but it hardly seems "right" to not have em. I suppose that was one of the "old ideals" of video gaming that has gone w/ the current ideals. For that matter, cut scenes were supposed to be one too - but I have to say I enjoyed the cutscenes almost as much as playing the game. For me, that's saying something.

I thought the kraken was an appropriate way of dealing with 'bosses'. Giant puzzles that the 'boss' can interfere with/hamper your progress on. Superfun!

I wanted a good ol' fashioned gun fight at the end and was thoroughly disappointed by the last level. The ending was a real anticlimax as a result because neither my heart-rate nor my adrenaline had risen the slightest little bit. It was just like playing a normal level and didn't get me on the edge of my seat at all. And as Raider_Chic said, Natla bites it in a lousy cutscene.

I'm all for confrontations that need a bit of working out like the last level did, but you can complete it without pulling Lara's guns from her holsters once. That's just lame.

I found the lack of jumping around and figuring out obscure weaknesses very refreshing and in perfect Tomb Raider tradition.

The game is great, though I must concur with the need for a boss battle. At least one, if there was ever a need or right time for one. It was with that Doppelganger Man did I ever wanted to go toe to toe with her. She needed a good THRASHING.:D The way she was taken care of, although it wasn't that bad, I mean man did she ever need lead poisoning.

Sorry for mistakes posted from iPodI still wanted to fight them though. Without the spiders, that portion of Mexico felt boring. Not even a panther popped out in place of the spiders.

:(
Same with the sharks too.

I see the need for villans, but having no boss battles just makes it a bit more realistic. How many real life archeologists fight a "boss" at the end of each of their expeditions? I'm glad they were done away with, and those time trials too, talk about stressful lol

Very true. I'm not sure what my opinion on this subject is, I'll have to ask myself. Do I like reality or do I like the madness of these obscure weaknesses? I did miss the end bosses somehow, it brings a thrill. Maybe a combination of non-obscure weaknesses with exploration. I liked the way you had to beat the kraken (lucky for us it was sitting underneath some spikes), maybe an extended version of that next time. I mean, the thing has eight arms, let him (her) use them.

I thank CD for killing the stupid boss fights, for me they have never been more than just boring and frustrating shooting orgies...

...and that's what i don't want to see in Tomb Raider.

The way you must kill the Kraken, that's true Tomb Raider feeling. It's clever, you have to find a way that makes sense. For me, Underworld has a very good flow and many motivating and enjoyable moments. One reason for that is that there are no boss battles.

Sorry, but i really hated every single one of them ;)

Dude, there weren't even any bats.

There were, but they barely put up a fight, and there were only about 2-4 every once in a while.

There were only 3 on the dock of the ship on the Andaman Sea level, and if you wanted to fight more, you have to stay on the dock and wait for more to appear.

What, wait for the. Heck I went looking for them. But Darn, the Wii version doesn't give much does it. I was thinking of getting a Wii and or a 360 just for the DLC. But no sharks, or tigers, panthers or spiders. Wow what a mood killer that is.

Boss fights can fit under the TR experience (at least in the "Core" games), but not with the way CD choose to do things. The boss fights were something to look forward to in the classics, the reason to save dozens of clips for the Uzi (or Desert Eagle) rather than shoot the rats and tigers in the earlier levels. A lot of the ammo found in the "classic" TR games would be hidden, and so by not exploring enough/not finding a good amount of ammo, the player was punished in the boss fights by having to use pistols.
With CD's new style of TR design, the combat is a lot more open. The pistols are always an option, but their is no large amount ammo hidden away for the non-pistol weapons (and there's an ammo-cap that you can't go over), and so including a boss that takes a lot of fight to kill (with larger, non-pistol weapons) is just tedious regardless of how well you'd explored the level.

This might have been a fitting boss theme for Natla at the end (contains spoiler pics)

I'm not a fan of the Wii but I'm sure its more than capable of producing a few bats here and there, I mean even the DS version has sharks! I wonder why they skimped out on those things for the Wii. Sorry about that Wii TR players :(

Don't feel too bad about the Mercs though, they don't put up much of a fight either in the PC version. One of them actually stood there while I shot him up  Maybe it's because I'm playing on medium settings or maybe the AI just isn't up to par but those animals sure have a good attack system!

I have mixed feelings about the lack of boss battles.
It's kind of strange, and I did feel disappointed that I couldn't finish Natla off myself.
On the other hand... the bosses in TRL were terrible, especially the last one! So I felt a bit relieved to find there's no boss battle, especially since after an update in Lara's journal about the Doppelganger I thought it was going to be one of those horribly difficult boss fights...

I wish they had kept the Adrenaline Dogde, it was fun to use, but I know that many people had problems with it so I'm not surprised it was left out.

I'm kind of surprised that people who haven't played the game enter this forum and require the use of spoiler marks from others... I didn't want to get spoiled either, so I simply didn't come here until I completed the game.

Just get the 360. That's what I'm going to do.
Wii version's bleh.

I enjoyed the game, just not the Wii version.

The spoiler feature is there for the very same reason you just wrote about. So people who haven't played or completed the game don't have to isolate themselves from this forum and can still participate in general discussions about the game.
