Direct 3D problems even with supported card.

I keep getting the Direct 3D error message when I try to play, even though I am using a supported card, the GeForce 9600.

So is this a bugged demo or what?

On a side note, is there gonna be a PS2 demo disk?

I have actually tried everything I can think of that comes as an "obvious answer" before I posted, I should have said really. ALL of my drivers are up to date, so I guess I shall just have to be happy to watch video's untill it comes out on PS2.

before i respond to the xmas laptop, i would like to know more about it. judging by its graphics chip, i am really doubtful it will run Underworld. have to look at the entire package: cpu speed, amount of system memory, hard drive space (although not really important) and peripherals.

also, please post DXDiags! those would help immensely.

if you plan to buy a laptop specifically for underworld, then you may as well spend the 12-1500 dollars and upgrade a PC, or buy a turn-key system. laptops are portable, but at the cost of lower/lacking features, depending on how much you spent buying it. one of the admins i think actually said their's was very nice somewhere on the forum, but not everyone has as much money as they.

after reading what players had to say there, i highly doubt it would be even a "decent" chipset. if you are looking for gaming laptops, consider alienware, or even a dell xps or something. but no. it already doesnt seem like Underworld will run on it.

i would then reconsider/replan:

1. take the Underworld stats/requirements, either min/recommended, and copy those somewhere.
2. take those stats and shop for a laptop. okay, maybe not a laptop, but compare it to a turn-key desktop PC and a laptop.
3. you should find that PC desktops spank most laptops due to sheer size and upgradeability.

If you have a nvidia 9600 card you should be able to run the game since that card is relatively new (dont confure with the old ati 9600 wich is not supported).

integrated isnt that great at all much: what it does is pull system memory to run your graphics. so if you have this setup as a laptop:

XP SP1
2.5GHz single core processor
2GB memory
Integrated Intel® Graphic Media Accelerator X3100
X amount of HDD space

XP = 512MB i think of memory
integrated graphics may take like 512MB-1GB of memory
leaving your laptop with about 1GB or less memory, so u would still be short memory in the end if you could get it to run at all.

I had an ATI X700 but it was not Shader 3.0 so I got an ATI HD 3650 for $59.00USD and it works and looks great! I only played game (not demo)15 min. to be sure it works, will play tomorrow.

When it comes to laptops and gaming you can`t go wrong with Alienware! much more expencive but well worth it. Alienware laptops 5yrs old still rank with most of the top laptops today. I myself am probably going to get the area-51-m17x dual core extreme edition laptop or the m17 Core 2 Extreme Quad. laptop dual hd graphics on either one. and I think I`ll order it with 4gigs ram from the start.I think that should play TRU quite nicely.

To the OP, please post your dxdiag if your still around, the GeForce 9600 should work just fine.

Intel graphics chipsets and integrated graphics in general (SiS, Via etc) are not supported for this game, newer ones might work but at the cost of performance/look of the game but only if they have the hardware. Radeon HD 3450 is much better.

The Radeon x740XL is below specifications.

GeForce geforce 7150M - If memory serves me right this is more like a GeForce 6200 than anything else in the 7xxx series. It might run it but with settings down low and disabled and at a low resolution. There is also the current driver issues with the 7xxx series too so I would say try for a 8xxx series from nvidia or x1800 from ATi etc. or higher.

Laptops in general are lower in performance as a result of the reworking of he parts to fit the chasis, lower power consumption to save battery and generate less heat so that the 'lap' part of the name can still be given! :D For these reasons, and more, laptops are not used in testing of games so there is no guarantee of the stability or performance of using a laptop for gaming. Best to get a desktop PC if you want to play games.

All the other tomb raider games work fine, its only the latest that has trouble with Direct3D

Hi i have a dell studio 1535 laptop and both trl and tra play fine on it but tru won't. I spoke to dell and they said laptops aren't made for gaming. If you want to play tru then get a desktop or upgrade if you already have one. I'm going to have to upgrade my hp one with a new graphics card. Can anyone recomend a good one?
