I've downloaded the pc demo , installed it and played it twice befor i get here to post my opinion, and here is my notices about the demo. :)

Befor i start, here is the specification of the rig i used to play the game and the game configuration :

Rig:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz / 4MB Cache / 1066MHz FSB
5GB Ram / 667 FSB
ATI Radeon X1950XT / 512MB
Built-in Sigmatel HD audio on 5.1 settings and connected to a 5.1 sound sysytem
Sony GDM-FW900 24" Wide Screen CRT monitor.
XP Professional SP2 / DX9 Latest. (Didn't try the demo on vista yet)

Game Settings:

Resolution 1920 by 1200 / Refresh Rate 85HZ / Aspect Ratio 16:10 / Texture Detail High
Antialiasing 6x AA / Texture Filtering 16x Anisotropic / ALL Other Options Enabled.

And now to the demo:

1# The Bugs:

1st thing i did after runing the demo is getting in the options to set my favorite button configuration and i couldn't set any mouse buttons, it was as if the button configuration menu can't sense any mouse clicks, but i think its just the demo and i hope in the final game this will be fixed.

And then, when i started the game, at the 1st time playing the demo i had a problem with the sound, most of the sounds like lara's voice and gun fires sounded like they are coming from way to far with echo effect, but in the 2nd time that got fixed a bit and i could hear the sounds but it wasn't quit clear as it should be, i think an option for (stereo / 5.1) in the sound configuration menu would be nice. :)

Lara's movment is also buggy as sometimes she just freeze for a second and do not respond to the key presses, most of time when she is on edges or narrow places, but that didn't happen much though.

And the Camera is really buggy most of the time, it keeps getting close to lara in most of the open scenes even if she have lots of space behind her, and most of time moves by it self whenever you try to correct the angle and get back to its previous position, and most of time causes problems with directions keeps you trying to figure out whiche direction you should be pressing from this angle, in general the camera is way to bad, it needs to be fixed and it needs an option to scroll it close or far from lara using he mouse scroller (that will be better i guess)...

There is also a problem with Lara's animation, its not a bug, but i don't know how to describe it, its just look so fast and not smooth atall, like as if its runing in fast frame rate, faster than it should be i say.

2# Things I'm Missing:

Where in the world is the Weapon Toggle and the Manual Grab Toggle in the configuration menu, i like to click to pull the guns and then click to put them back in , not to keep pressing to keep them out, i can't play like this by keep pressing, i need the weapon toggle from anniversary beck again, seriously, this is really very very important to me, PLEAAAAAASSSSEE , and also (If you don't mind) i would love to use the manual grab if that is posible to be added back to the game, those were 2 excellent features in anniversary and i don't know why you took them out of Underworld?, they were really great...

Well, that was all :D , elss than that, the game was extremely great :thumbsup: i loved it so much and can't wait to get it, just fix those little things i mentioned and the game will be perfect, thank you very much CD for the great work :)

But I loved that in anniversary :(
better they bring that back in the real game version, I loved it! :D

Because of minor oversights in the PC-port of a console game demo? Yeah, you do that...

(PC final version will almost certainly be 'cleaner' than this... there're some things you just don't want fixed when they want a demo, though, if you think about it)

"manual grab" isn't a big issue. I doubt it will be in the game.

Hum...

I agree with you in all specs.

I hate when jumping from an edge to another, Lara looks like a frog... All open up.

Also, the sound of the wind when you are diving is missing... That was so cool.

But the worst of all is the Camera. SUCKs! God... when you are climbing the wall you can't see whats behind you... Sometimes we have to jump to see if there's another edge...

FIX the camara please. It's too close to Lara... Give her space.

"manual grab" isn't a big issue. I doubt it will be in the game.

yup, manual grab isn't a big deal but having it will still be fun though :) , but the weapon toggle is a big deal that i can't play the game without as it becomes irritating to keep pressing to keep the guns out , so this thing must be in the final version...

It seems there's nothing but complaining around here nowadays!

It's fair enough to express your concerns or disappointments but it seems that the professional reviewers are the only ones who like the game and the actual fans do nothing but complain.

Go ahead and cancel your preorders because it will be you missing out.
Or more appropriately, wait for the reviews and make a more sensible decision.

I don't really care what any of you guys think about Underworld, but I don't think some of you are being fair to Crystal D, after all, they breathed life back into Tomb Raider, and whether you're pleased or displeased with the game, would you rather have an end to our franchise?

By the way this post is definitely not aimed at the original post. Your being perfectly reasonable :)

Console demo -> PC port... go figure that they left something out.
Not sure if that'll be an option, maybe it'll come into the PC version later on... consoles don't really need combat toggle.

I smell Delay.. :D Oh well, That wouldnt be bad, just as long as i know that it will be un-glitchfilled.

If they wanted to perfect everything, then an indefinite delay of the demo would've been the best idea. (Hands up all those who wanted a delay on the demo? or who were annoyed when 360 people got it before you?)

If CD are really as frightened of AoD as they make out to be then a delay is highly reccommened :p Just kidding, a delay of a month wouldn't be too bad just to get everything tweaked perfectly but heck im not making the game, CD are and i'm sure they're doing a great job just a few tweaks to make the game perfect wouldn't be too bad. :thumbsup:

For a GPU like you have similar to mine that is NOT a bug IMO, you should be glad that can play this game at decent settings, when you consider the advances with the graphics engine since TRL. I am sure most of your issues, stutters etc are becuase you are settinf the ingame details too high, which at that resolution and AF/AA settings, you must be kidding, of course it will affect smooth gameplay and also possibly even sound.

You Lot make me sick! :( all the hard work people at crystal Dynamics and all you can do is fuss about it! if it weren't fom them Tomb Raider would look this good and feel like a achievement for Tomb Raider Fans!

Agreed, but especialy someone reporting something as a bug with such an aggresive title. "A lot of work to do" and than read those comments, well enough said, back to raiding some more :)

OH DEAR GOD THE CAMERA. :mad2: There needs to be a puke smiley because that's almost what the camera made me feel like. I've never, ever gotten dizzy or motion sick from any game, ever. But holy god, the camera in the demo is HORRIBLE. I'm so dizzy right now that it gave me a headache. Legend was iffy, but tolerable. Anniversary was a vast improvement, but dear god, Underworld is no steps forward and five steps back. It also moved too fast and totally and completely spazzed out in tight quarters - such as the first time you have to do the wall kicking and when you have to crawl under the railings in the final area.

The camera was so bad that I wanted to quit playing several times. But I forced myself to go all the way through because I love CD's Tomb Raiders.

I'm just going to assume that the absence of weapon toggle is a "demo thing" and that it'll be in the full version. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt here because it's completely unacceptable to remove it.


There were some upsides though. It's pretty cool when she hoists herself up onto a really thin ledge and presses her back to it. God how I wish I could have had that feature in Legend and Anniversary. Balancing on beams and horizontal poles is pretty cool too. The graphics were plenty smooth and fluid, and beautiful on top of that. Oh, and the kitties have learned how to jump over things. Although that's pretty cool, there goes my easy kills by standing on a rock 2 feet higher than they are :p (TRL, TRA) . Swimming is also very thankfully much improved. She's not almost completely inept in the water anymore.

I really don't know if I'm going to be able to play the full version though if they don't sort out the camera. What in god's name happened between Anniversary and now? The demo alone made me dizzy and gave me a headache. There's no way I can play the entire game with a camera like that. At least not comfortably and without being totally dizzy after 5 minutes and wanting to puke by the end of a level.

Dude, i'm afraid that i'm going to disappoint you but the game runs on my rig faster than even mario games, its like runing way faster than it even should be that i had to check twice in the game configuration to make sure that i didn't forgot any graphic options disabled, to give you more, its even runing twice faster than anniversary or legend did on my rig, and those 2 were runing pefect on my rig with same settings and next generation graphics enabled for LEGEND :D , you must be confusing my spec with soemthing elss... :)

Hmm... I thought manual grab and weapon toggle were just throwbacks because TRA is a remake of TR1. I wasn't expecting them to return. Though I suppose that if there's enough demand, they are the sort of features that could easily be added with a patch.

What do you mean by strafe? In Anniversary and Legend, Lara will strafe if you hold down the arm-weapon button. And she can run from left to right while you keep the camera focused forward. What more is needed?

Here are some things I've noticed:

Camera!!!!
When she's on top of a pillar or a pole and she is with her guns aiming, when you move the camera, sometimes she contort herself completely! That happens when you are aiming ("Z") too.
When she jumps from a pole to a pillar she do a backflip so much fast!!
The exchange of weapons are so unreal... She change weapons so much fast! Aim with G and change the weapon R and u will see, also climbing.
The walk command "ALT" works etc.. But she looks like a snail. sooo slow.. :lol:
Sometimes when u die lara's body goes inside the ground (Not completely, just her arms/legs)...


I liked the game, the visual, things, moves (all of them! *-*, Alison Carroll especially... Send a kiis for her Eidos!? :)), etc..

But there are a lot of things to work on..

The most important I think is the realistic way she do the things..
She looks like a frog or a robot with too much oil on the clutches... :scratch:

Hurry Eidos! 3 weeks only! :whistle: ... :rolleyes:

AGREED! The camera blows. Too many times in this demo alone that the camera swings around to where you can't see what Lara is doing when trying to complete a maneuver, or you can't swing the camera out and around to see where to go. What happened to "What Would Lara Do?" If she can look behind her, then why can't we??? "Wall-Jumping" blind is kinda ridiculous. What sucks is that other than the camera issues, the demo is great and the game looks magnificent. It seems like a tradition for TR games to have bad cameras.

I wonder if this is why - have you ever seen them jump?

I don't have a problem with the camera. I always play like that. :lol: So I am used to it by now. I just wished my xbox was working so I could play the demo again. Now I have to wait 2 weeks to get it fixed. :(
