What do you love/like/dislike or hate?

I love the headshot move. I though you just had to wait for the reticule to align and then shoot to perform it like in Anniversary. I was nicely shocked to see that you have to aim the reticule and then *BAM* the tigers flop like a fish. :D

Also Lara's animations are really great, I love 'em.
There's secrets as well which are actually quite fun to find.

The combat was a bit tricky at first, but I soon got used to it. Those tigers really want you dead and you can be overwhelmed by them at times. Also the ocean looks beautiful and swimming on the surface looks lush. Planting a grenade on the surface and watching it detonate is rather a nice view.

Finally, I played the demo 4 times through and thought I knew this Thailand section quite well, only to be completely shocked when a giant Lizard went skittering up the wall and scared the Cr*p out of me. I managed to get a couple of shots on him before he was off. I loved it. :D

So what did you guys love like dislike or hate?
My verdict: Excellent demo, gives a good taste of what's to come, shame it wasn't longer though. :D

I have just downloaded and finished the TRU-Demo (in about half an hour)!!!

OMG it was amazing! :D I absolutely loved the look of Lara, her new moves (balancing on poles, climbing upon ledges, Jackie Chan style climbing on the walls, whoohoo!!), the beautiful environment (ocean, birds, plants, ‘alive tombs’) and the background music. There is a lot of opportunity to explore, I think it’s a good match for the old TR’s in that aspect. The tigers were awesome, very good A.I. and they didn’t die that easily. The headshot is great! Spiders were fun too, I liked to shake em off and squish em, hehe. Bats! Aaaaaah, I hate bats! The climbing is great, the ledges are clearly visible but it’s not so obvious as in TRL and TRA. The path you need to take is quite obvious (I didn’t get stuck at all), but I could see that I hadn’t visited every ledge etc yet, so again a lot to explore. :thumbsup:

Some negative points: there’s quite a lot of checkpoints and healing potion chalices (but that’s not that big of a problem). In the beginning, the checkpoints were quite useless, since she wouldn’t die if you fell down but fell in the water and you had to start all over again (but that’s not going to be an issue in the real game where you can save….).
Sometimes you can’t clearly see where Lara is jumping to (especially while jumping to the back) and sometimes the camera didn’t function very well so for a few seconds you were kind of playing fist person (?). Shooting and tumbling didn’t work very well all the time, sometimes she wouldn’t shoot (or was that just me :confused: ) and now and then she moved and jumped really fast.
She didn't do the Tkatchev (did I spell that right?) on the pole! :(

That’s all I could remember from my first play-through of the demo. I think it’s going to be a fantastic game that will surpass every other TR-game and I really enjoyed playing it. It was so short (I took all that trouble to make the lever work and then it just ended), I want more, now!!!!!!!!!!!! :mad2: :mad2:

I'd like to know what they will do then..
in anniversary they just stand still shaking there head or they just keep running into the wall.

No, haven't tried that (yet :p ). There are possibilities to do that though, so I might try it later.

I must agree with your observations.

The jolt on her transitions can be annoying especially when making delicate jumps or moves.

Camera getting stuck on your back... not so good. When fighting tigers it seemed like the cam gets closer than it should instead of pulling back to let one get a good view of the action; and yes I tried the jump button to get away from them and still kept pulling me too close.

I did not feel a sense of freedom either... sorry; you go from point A to B, jump from C to D or back to A. At least in this section of the Demo there are no many alternatives to reach the same goal; nothing we havent done before but I expected to go with "What can Lara do?" That could change--and I hope it does in later levels.

The controls need a bit of tighten up here and there, hopefully there has been more fine tuning for the final retail version.

On the BRIGHT SIDE: The game is stunning, watching it on a 1080p LCD with 5.1 Surround Sound really brought it home. It does look better than I thought, filled with a lot of great details and clever sounds all over. Kudos to that!

Lara looks top notch as a next gen character; the Menu is intuitive and easy to use; and the lighting in the game is beautiful and deserves praise.

Any Tomb Raider fan will buy the game, period; but the idea is to bring new adopters and strengthen the franchise to continue making new games on the series. There are so many great games out there this season that is almost overwhelming; at least as a 360-PS3 owner. When I look at my wish list, I am going to decide who takes priority based on the positive and fun factor and my wild guess is that many gamers will do the same.

I wish nothing but the best to this franchise--I own and played every game from TR1; and I am sure in the long run they will appreciate our sincere feedback.

lol no need to get defensive when no one has said anything to you :lol:

Also your attacking the mega fans, they haven't attacked you, saying they're ''blinded the games weaknesses''. So yeah now there probably will be some people that will respond to that

People will take from the game/demo what they will, things you see as weaknesses might not be the same to others.

But I am agreeance with you that constructive criticism is always welcome and that helps Eidos/CD out alot.

But saying ''mega fans'' are blind because they don't see the same things as weaknesses to you isn't constructive criticism lol

Well, I tend to favor the exploration and puzzle solving, as compared to the shooting... and those tigers were holding up my progress... so I "Player Tailor'd" them straight to hell. This addition could come in quite handy.

Also, getting used to some of Lara's new moves, I would accidentally send her flying in the wrong direction. SPLAT!

Yikes!..... That happend in Leipzig already... Its a little scary with only 23 days to go.... I didn't have any complains beyond that thought

I found a hard artifact that was hard to get to. :D But I got it.
It's not easy to see and when I spotted it, it took me awhile for me to figure it out how to get it.
Also some artifacts in the vases.

I just learned how to switch weapons and heal myself. :lol: And get past the cut scenes.
Oh and I picked up a weapon which is a pole but I did not know that at first, so I kept running around trying to figure out what to do with it. :lol: I guess you place in a slot and then jump up on it as a pole. I was like oh. I also fight much better now, that I know what I am doing.

It's cool game, just wish the demo was a little longer but other than that I think it's awesome!

when i try to set myself up on xbox live using my eternet cable everything works except when i click on join it says you have to update your console but when i click update it doesnt work!

While it's my first post, I've owned/followed the TR series since the very beginning.

Just tried the TRU demo awhile ago. There are so many positives about the demo, beautiful scenery, beautiful graphics, good interactivity and so on. It definitely gets you excited for the game to be released. The lizards, lol, if you weren't paying attention, you'd draw your guns and be like "oh crap!"

On the flip side, the gameplay did have moments where the animations and camera positions were awkward. I found if you weren't paying attention to where you needed to go on a route of ledges, especially jumping back from a ledge, you might have to back track so you could position the camera to see where you needed to head. :mad2:

But overall, definite kudos to Eidos and CD for what they've done so far. Hope the final release is even more promising! :thumbsup:

Lol, When I Saw The Lizzard It Scared Me Into A Coma, And I Pretty Much Found Every Secret. I Deffinately Loved The Scenery/movements. However I When The Game Started On The Boat, I Saw An Island Behind The Boat [if U Were To Face The Steering Wheel In That Direction] Were U Suppose To Go There? And Those Tigers Put Up A Hell Of A Battle.

I absolutely love the demo!! I can't wait to get the whole game. And that lizard scared me too. I shot it twice and it ran off :eek: . And whats really cool is when your going through the jungle.. you can hear the tigers.. its like they're spying on you :eek: :eek: lol

I like to end on a good note, so...

Bad: Occasional bad camera - e.g. in a tight space it was on the other side of the rock curvature so I had to manually shift it; occasional bad transition from balance beam to wall/ledge, or stepping down (and in other various places); jerkiness in some movement (turning around on balance beams, chin ups on ledges); only slightly noticed the linear path - but you can't have it all I guess, and this has been the norm for most games anyhow.

Good: Beautiful graphics; great character animations; improved headshot; loving the head kick-off jump in combat; the tiger AI was good, even if Lara was a bit higher up (yes, I tested this); the rock climbing; the wall jump...

One big thing for me (being software QA) is the attention to detail - pushing through plants, breathing anim in unconscious enemies, tracer rounds, etc.

More good than bad, for sure. Looking forward to it.

I'm trying to get past the Shiva glitch I read about here, so I can get to the bottom and I have spent like 5 hours trying. I'm done. :lol: I'll just wait for the game to come out, then I won't have to worry about the glitch. :D

I personally thought it was awesome. Though I do agree that Lara's movements are a tad jerky... To me the demo didn't seem too linear, I mean I know there was only one way to go in some places but I thought CD did a good job of making it look like it wasn't linear. Do you guys get what I mean? I don't think I'm explaining good enough... There was one thing that I'm not sure whether or not bothered me and that was her speed when swimming. In Legend she was like, god awful slow, but in this one it seems she can swim faster than Micheal Friggin Phelps... :lol: I'm between finding it annoying and finding it amusing.

EDIT: Oh and I also thought it was cool when if you wait long enough on the start screen, it will play the teaser trailer.:)

In most areas I liked the demo, it could've been a bit longer though.
Some quite annoying flaws were the camera (not all the time, but it has its moments)
and while reloading the shotgun: she starts the animation, the sounds continues, but she isnt holding the gun anymore...(happened everytime)

What I found really stupid is the pushing away of plants, when I first saw the videos a while back, i thought this was an excellent addition to the game (environment reaction to Lara).
But: why not all the plants, and why aren't dead bodies solid?
I can't walk through a plant, but can walk through a dead tiger???? :scratch:

I also loved the tigers, they are so cool.
I can't wait for the game, everything seems so promising and even though I have never been so hyped up for a game, the demo exceeded my expectations. :D

Only about 20 days left. I'm counting the seconds.

I loved the scale of the game everything looks much bigger, not quite crysis but not far off.

The dynamic shadows moving around, it's so lush all the plants and parrots, tigers etc.

At 1680*1050 looking down at the end almost gave me a feeling of vertigo!

Now here are something which I would like to be sorted out in the final game.

-Firstly the Camera:

*The BIGGEST problem with the Camera is its inability to get behind Lara while she's Stand on a ledge with a wall behind her back.You just CANT see whats in front of you,its a leap of faith most of the time.Also when Lara is hanging on Ledges which are attached to walls the camera doesnt falls back to give a clear view of where you are jumping as with the previous case you here too cant see where you are jumping.I would want to have this problem sorted out in the final game as its the biggest con.[We can just have a button for First Person View to see whats in front of us]

*The camera is kinda jumpy & moves a lot.

*While the distance between Lara & the camera is appropriate while Sprinting its not so while normal running and its a bad thing coz most of the brilliant Art style are not visible unless & untill we
revolve it & look at them.


Now to the Animations:

*A few animations are clunky [Its not a big deal but when you have a game with THIS good animation having clunky animations every now & then is a turn off]

*Like the animation of Lara's hands when she pulls out her gun while Hanging from ledges is clunky & feels odd.

*She always feels as if even a small bump in the terrain will want to make her jump up & down.[This happens a lot while in staricases]

*The animation when lara jumps from her ship into the water is far far too fast & so is the animation when she climbs up into her ship.

*The animation when she leaves her Grapling hook after swinging is bland,its almost as if she's just standing still while going forward in the air.

*The running Kick looks kinda unreal & is useless at times coz its too slow.


If these few problems are sorted out then I feel that this can be the PERFECT Tomb Raider games for old fans like us & new fans alike !!!

Hi, I come from vietnam, I spent 6 hours last night to get the demo but the demo is too short to finish :( :( It's took me 25 minutes to finish :lol: :lol:

you should do what I do thien, just explore stuff and try stuff out, have you tried the glitch to get down below? it extends the demos game play so you can kill some lizards :D extremely fun :)

but yes demo was too short, but again i can see that as understandable since they don't want to give away puzzles and other parts of the the level, they would want people to be surprised so i think thats the reason for the demos length

Finally played the demo!! :D (already 5 times actually :p)
I really loved it, it looks so gorgious on my PC :eek:

But now come to business:
the only things I disliked about it is what everyone is already saying..
I agree on the camera, it needs some work
also the controls needs to get used to.. it was too bad you couldn't configurate the mouse buttons, cause I have two beautiful side buttons I'd like to use. but apparently that's just cause it's a console port and it's coming in the full game! :thumbsup:
other things is that the moves really are to fast! espacially thing like the swan dive.. it's not like it's used to be!
and last is that it was weird lara sometimes on beams was just standing still, not responding for a second or two! Hmm..

well, those were just the bad things about it.. I loved a lot too!

at least smarter than in previous games, pretty hard to kill
and when I climbed up on a beam to check out what they will do they were running!
okay, they started after a second or two, but than they were running back and fort and cirkling around lara! try it, i loved it :p
also I was suprised to see that there was a dutch menu and dutch subtitles.
normally games aren't being dubed to dutch (just like this one, thank god :rolleyes:), but they don't have dutch subtitles either. so I liked this cause it helped me understand it just a bit more than with english subtitles! ;)

o yeah, some things I didn't like either were the lacking of the manual grab, one click per shoot thing and the reloading of your weapons! :p I tried to searched for it in the options menu, but couldn't find it. I assume they won't be in the game. too bad really! cause they made it so much more realistic :eek:
but it's not like I couldn't live without it, the bad things on top really should get better!
But I'm sure they will ;) I'm not consurned right now!

Well I played yesterday the demo.
I'm gonna try to be the most imparcial as possible, doing a little list with Pros asn Cons.
Pros:
-Her movements are really more fluid, when you stay in one place and jump she jump like a real pesron would and not like a doll
-The scenery is charming (at least I liekd a lot the Costal Thailand Scenery) and the underwater View is far advanced tahn Legen or anniversary
-Sonar (best thing ever)
-The interaction with the ambience (Lara gets really dirty ^^) and the fact that the dead animals just dont magically disappear. :eek:
Cons:
-The demos was a little slow I had to disable shadows so I could play it normal speed (but even then it was a little slow and even crashed a little):scratch:
-Her Stupid Ponytail Is alive! Cmon man I dont think Thailand is THAT windy so her hair keeps wiggling with no reason (even with all the bushes standing still) :lol:
-Worse camera Ever, I think crystal Dynamics tried to make possible that you appreciate the surrounding ambient at the same time lara does acrobacies , Well flashnew: You cant focus in lara if shes 5 miles away from the camera !!!! :nut:
-Lara's face: I keep thinkin that Laras face in Anniversary was superb... They could just changed some little things, enhanced a bit... I just dont like this new face ^^
I'm really hoping for the full game, overall the game looks really good (hope it is quicker in full version!)

I for one loved the demo...she moves so life like instead of cat-like. I love the waves in the water and when she's underwater you can see the waves when she moves...

My favorite bit it the fact that it's so much harder which makes it that much enjoyable...There's like heaps and heaps of hiding spots that I've found and I'm sure there are heaps more!...and this is just the demo!

the only problem i have with it is...I WANT THE GAME NOW! LOL :p

you should do what I do thien, just explore stuff and try stuff out, have you tried the glitch to get down below? it extends the demos game play so you can kill some lizards :D extremely fun :)

but yes demo was too short, but again i can see that as understandable since they don't want to give away puzzles and other parts of the the level, they would want people to be surprised so i think thats the reason for the demos length

lol theres two ways to get down there, the glitch on the left side and the 'drop the pole' way on the other

I also found out that when you put a tiger to sleep using the tranquiliser you can kick them! :D

They get back up after a while, but you can kick them to death if you want.

I just ignored the first three and climbed onto the poles so they couldn't get me. Then for the next three I just stood at the edge of one of the ledges and for some reason they would attack me so I shot them one by one.

I'm the same. Tranquilized them and then repeatedly drop kicked them.
Poor things, they looks so cool when they're sleeping. :D
You can watch them breathe peacefully but then they're up again wanting to bite your brains out. Love it.

noteworthy point is that you can roundhouse-kick spiders now...i don't think any other game out there can do that - unless they make a game with chuck norris, which will never happen. after roundhouse-kicking my first spider, i was sold.

and shooting bats is reminiscent of Duck Hunt.

And that camera thingy.. I hate it. Couldn't see clear and I was stuck a few times because of the irritating camera.. well. :p

and the lizards.. I saw them too :p shot at it.. But they didn't do anything, climbed up and saw those never again xD
Argh, and those spiders.. not funny when those giants come in the full game .. :P

Liked the demo, short... but nice to get around with the controls.. ( hates F.. I kept hitting F when I wanted to roll, or to let go of the ledge and stuff XD .. And I couldn't change those properly :S:S )

Haha ;) , I will probably not use the PDA at all, unless it is really necessary. Same goes for the binoculars, used them very rarely in Legend and not at all in the TRU demo (the thing about TRA I liked was that Lara had no acces to all these lovely but useless gadgets :lol: )

I saw the lizard when I played it for the second time, it was really fast! :eek:

Did you manage to get down to the real big ones?
