Level 9 Retracting Ledges

HELP! I'm at the 6 statue retracting ledge place where I pull the lever and the statues/ledges slide out. I'm supposed to jump to R1, L1, L2, etc. but by the time I have control of Lara, the ledges are already sliding back in. There's no way I can figure out how to get control of her sooner and the best I can do is jump to R1 before the ledges are slid all the way back in. Am I missing something? In all the walkthroughs, etc., they don't make this task sound unusually difficult (not even a "you need to hurry"). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

go to the block to 2 to 4 to 3 to 5 and wait there until they are all back into the wallthe there is a grapple hook along the wall good luck

Also, only after pulling the lever for the first time you'll lose time as the camera pans over to show the statues. Just wait until they retract and pull the lever again, then you can start running to the broken pillar as the statues are moving toward the center of the room. :)

Thanks both of you for your help. The second lever pull was the thing that gave me enough time to get to the other side; I would have never figured that out myself. Thanks again!
