i just finished my first map too - must have taken 5 hours or so. i love it - it is a story map :) . it is the alien tile set, so everything is white with a few red bits.
assasinate big tony
steal secret plans for new improved cheddar cheese
escape the complex
basically, you start off in a small area with a door and a window. the window faces the same way as the door, so you can see into the big "lobby" area. in this lobby are 5 or 6 guards (all military bots) patrolling up and down, with a few stationary in the middle. they haven't seen you yet, you start with just the uplink radar. the lobby was designed with the famous scene from the matrix in mind. it is a large room, constructed by me, with pillars going down each side. at the end is a guard with a minigun (stationary), and 2 auto turrets beside him. behind him is one of those tiles where you can go up either side of it and it takes you upstairs. there is a door there which needs a red keycard to open (key is in the lobby).
once you get through there is a female soldier patroling. "infiltrate the lobby - complete" comes up on screen. you go further through, a few more auto guns, and another couple of guards. a couple more special forces spawn back in the lobby and come searching for you with the SU47 machine guns. eventually you get to the room with tony. he is the bot "Big Tony" and has a rocket launcher. kill him, steal the plans, and make your way back. there is another special forces guard waiting for you in the lobby with a minigun. get back to where you started and it is mission complete!
all this has the scrapyard music on - incredible for the job. gives same effect as in the matrix where they come into their lobby with guns blazing. it is like a pounding, heavy metal track.
and that was my first map. i love it.

Yeah all the time I put in was worth it, my map is based in a combat simulator it's pretty good for my first one and dispite its finished, I've still got one tenth memory (doesn't sound like much but it's a big achivement considerring how quickly the memory fills up) so I have room to improve. I might make the guards patrole around since I only found out about how to do it this morning. I also made a second single player map this morning that I started last night. This ones a small recreation of the archives level from Golden Eye. (go to http://ts2.clan-ur.com for instructions for the lay out)

Yeah your map sounds good, wierd (well the objectives sound wiered), but good.
My map (yeah I know I've said it al ready) is a combat simulator thats infected with a virus and is slowly turning all the guards into zombies and if an anti-virus isn't turned on in aprox. 3 minutes the charater's mind will get fried (you actually have 3:20 but I say 3:00 to make the player hurry up).
After activating the anti-virus you have to get a time crystal to make a key appear so you can use a switch to end the program. What do you think of my map? (I might submit it to http://ts2.clan-ur.com/ (boy I've really been advertising that site reacently (actually you (duckman) should take some pictures of the layout and submit them to that site)))

yeah thats a nice idea - complicated, but if you can make it using game logic, then it would be great.
my mission - yep a bit weird. basically the thinking behind "steal secret plans for new cheddar recipe" is that you are infiltrating a rival cheese-manufacturing company and you have to kill the leader and steal his new improved recipe. simple as that. lol
i would take a photo but i dont have a DC.

Well that does clear up the chedder chesse thing. Actually you dont need a digital camara just a scanner or webcam.
If you have a scanner just take pictures of the T.V. with a disposeable camara and scan in the photos.
Or if you have a web cam and the T.V. in your room adjust it so its pointing at the screen and snap away (providing your web cam softwere(?) lets you take pictures (and zoom)).
