Can't save in Beyond..Call of Duty Steam version

Haven't heard of this issue before but I have the CD version of this game. How are you trying to save the game? CTRL + S or do you hit ESC and click save?

Neither one works. This seems unique to the version on Steam. The load and save options are greyed out.
