I know this is a little late, but when Lara says "I need thor's belt to get his hammer, and I need the hammer, to kill a god." I don't think she was talking about Natla
this is my reason why. I think this because if my mythology is correct and also the last time I checked a god was a man not a woman. A god is a man, and a goddess is a woman. Lara says she needs to kill a god not a goddess. the only way Natla could be a god is if she were a guy:lol:

i think youre right, i also think natla is only one of side characters thats just a pain in the Nuts.

I'm kinda torn between the two as we found out in anniversary natla cannot die as she is immortal and i watch buffy the vampire slayer alot ... if any of you watch it then you'll know what im about to say.. glory a god in the t.v program cannot die unless you close the portal with the key's blood (buffys sister) so buffy kills herself to save dawn and friends and the world and to help herself out(buffy) she uses a hammer which can harm her health quite badly and so on.... so i was thinking well if natla is a god then perhaps maybe there is a connection between the two?:) but i highly doubt it because this happens in the medditranien and i think this is one of the 1st levels so if they did have a connection then there would be no tomb raider underworld :)

Maybe the word 'god' was used in a general way, like 'deity', not referring to the actual deity who is a goddess.

Or maybe Natla is a man after all...

I agree, Jurre. The gender distinction is probably not significant. I see women referred to "actors" and "authors" all the time now. Although I do still see "comedienne" frequently, many previously male titles are now being applied in a gender-neutral fashion.

I agree. Just because she didn't say 'goddess' doesn't mean, that it can't be a woman. Lara probably just thought it would be easiest to say 'god' because that could be both genders ;)

Also, the sentence ends much more strongly with a masculine iambic rhythm than a feminine one.

"I need the hammer to kill a god."
"I need the hammer to kill a god(dess.)"

Much stronger in the first one.

Well, if it's an intentional choice it means that someone was paying attention to how the words sound when spoken. That's an important quality in someone writing a script.

Jurre

I am not making fun of you... and I am not English either, no matter how much I would like...

During the renaissance people tended to use the Roman names, and that has passed into modern times. But you were referring to the Greek language and the mountain Olympus, so I tought the Greek names would be more apropriate. But it was no more than a little nitpick, not to be taken too serious...

maybe the god lara is going to kill is something Natla is after for some purpose or someone Natla is using, Lara needs to kill this person in order to stop or prevent Natla from doing whatever shes plotting.

im soo confused. which to me is a good thing

I believe that Natla would be just a small part or the game...... she would some normal Boss after a level..... But The Thor's hammer will surely be for some more powerful and more Dangerous enemy.........

At first, I had the same opinion like you, that she's referring to a (male) god. But how all the others already said, you can also use god when speaking of a goddess. I mean it's not that important, the creature behind is important. And I don't really think that Natla is a true god. Ok, she's immortality (not invulnerability, which is why I think she was at least seriously injured by the column which fell on her) and she was a ruler of atlantis, but that doesn't automatically make her a god(dess). Still I think she's somehow linked to Avalon or the Underworld (where else should such a b*tch end :D ). Especially because even in other literature and novels Avalon and Atlantis are often linked somehow, so I think it's not too far away for Eidos to us this hook as well :)
