I am at the City of Vilcabamba and am trying to unlock the right and left gates. I am having trouble with the left as Lara will not grab on to the platform with both hands. Thinking I was doing something wrong, I went ahead and got the right one unlocked but am still stuck on the left one. If someone out there knows the answer to this problem, PLEASE help as I cannot go any further with the game.:mad2:

Hi Trish :)
You mean you're jumping back from the shimmy-ledge above the pool and Lara just will not grab hold of the extended platform in front of the door?
This is a well-known bug, one I suffered from myself. Try disabling "Full-screen effects" in the graphics options, that's what worked for me. If that doesn't work, try lowering your screen resolution as well.
If neither of those work, you can download game saves from here (http://tombraiders.net/stella/savegame/TRAsaves.html#trasave) and simply carry on from the next checkpoint after where you're stuck.
Hope that helps :D

Hi Spong.
First of all, I cannot find the graphics option. When I go into OPTIONS, all I see are:
Display, Calibration, controls, camera, sound and cheats, None of which say "Full screen effects". I feel like such a dummy but I don't even know how to lower my screen resolution. When I got this game, I had a PS2 but never played the game on it. I am now playing it on a PS3. I'm sure that has nothing to do with it. I played my first TR game on a PC and fell in love with TR. I am also bewildered at how to download the saved games that you were talking about. Does the game have to be hooked up to the internet to do that? I think the PS3 can be hooked up, but as you can tell, I know very little about it. I don't know if you can guide me through all of this over the internet, but believe me, I do need help from someone.

Spong's advice is for the PC version. I think it's the first time someone has this issue on the PS2 version. The only thing I can think of is that you should HOLD the jump button and press triangle as soon as Lara grabs the ledge with one hand.

You're exactly right Treeble. This is THE FIRST time I've ever heard of this problem surfacing on the PS2 version. I assumed you were playing the PC version Trish, sorry about that.
As Treeble suggests, hold the jump button. That's about the only advice.

Thanks. I tried everything suggested. It just won't work. I don't know where to go from here. I really wanted to continue playing the game. Thanks for trying. If you come up with anything, please let me know.

The only other thing I can think of at the moment, Trish, is the calibration of the analogue sticks on your joypad. But it's a complete shot in the dark as I'm assuming the PS3 does the same thing as the PS2 where it takes a reading of the analogue sticks at "rest" position when each game loads. If that's messed up, even by only a small amount, it would effect the game.
Do your analogue sticks rest in the dead centre? Where you maybe fiddling around with them as the game loaded?
That's a long-shot as I say. Beyond that, make sure you press and hold the jump button when leaping back from that shimmy ledge. Use a decent amount of pressure on the jump button too as the button itself is analogue.
Good luck
I'm still stunned that this has happened on the PS2

Hey guys,
Thanks for all your info. I have used so much pressure, I was afraid I was going to break the thing. No, nothing sticks. I have played the game perfectly up until this point. I am in the process of contacting "Tech Support" directly. (as if they care). Wish I was playing this on my PC. Problems would have already been taken care of . This new TR, Underworld, wonder if it is going to be for PC, PS2, PS3, or all 3. PC is really easier in that you can dowmload patches, etc. Apears to be next to impossible if not. Ya know, I'm not a computer or PS guru, I just like to play the games and want them to work. I really wanted to finish this game. Think I should try to find it for the PC?

Seems a shame to miss the game because of one small glitch, especially such a good game. I don't have a PlayStation so can't really offer any help either. Apart from one sticky bit going up the Great Pyramid, Anniversary really is excellent so if you can get it for PC, I'd go for it. I just bought a new PC to ensure I can play Underworld when it comes out. Really looking forward to that thing.

Ya know, I really don't want to give up this game with the PS, but it is really driving me crazy. When I bought this game. I looked in the PC section for games and I have never seen it for the PC. Seems like most things are going to PS, and all of the other game systems out there. Mayber tech supportn can give me some answers, if so, I will be sure to pass them along. I really wish I weren't the pioneer in this field. I feel so alone!!:(

It's a shame Trish, I hope you meet with some kind of success from Tech Support if you go that way. I can't really think what else could be the problem, what with us being so far down the line in terms of when Anniversary was released, I'm still amazed this hasn't happened with someone else.
If you do end up chasing the PC version (which I'd recommend anyway) it shouldn't be hard to find, and it should be nice & cheap :)

Thanks everyone.
I did get a reply from tech support and they gave me the same information as yall did. However, I'm not sure they knew I was playing a PS2 game so I sent them another E-mail.
Wonder if you can buy anniversay for the PC online? I think I am going to try to find it that way.

If you can't find Anniversary for sale online (new or used), I'll eat this forum.

Hi yall. Well, tech support wasn't much help. They told me that my saved game might be corrupt and to try going back to a previous save, which I did with no luck. I even started the game again and it is still doing it ..TS said if that didn't work it was probably a defective disc. Well, so much for that. Money down the drain as it is too late to take it back.
I did find Anniversary for the PC and you are not going to believe this, but I can't get it to install on my computer. I have windows vista and it does say it will play on vista. I've never had any trouble installing anything. I guess I was just destined to NOT play this game.:mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2:

Sorry to hear about Technical Support drawing such an indifferent blank. To be honest, I've not heard of a case of corrupted save files on the PS2 (the PC version certainly, but not the PS2).
So what happened when you tried to install Anniversary on your PC?
Trish

Spong:
YEA!!!!!:) :) :) I did a little more research and found out the install on the pc was a vista problem. Under general forums, I found someone with the same problem and was finally able to install it on my PC. Now on to the fun and the games!!!!!!

I just hooked the computer up to my 42" TV and it is like playing the game one the PS3. Gee, wish I had thought of this earlier. What wonderful technology. Now to learn the difference in the movements!!!! Love yall!!!!

Hey Trish, I just bought a new PC a couple of weeks back and I've just installed Anniversary this evening and am playing through from the beginning again. Just finished Caves and this time round I found all 3 secrets and the Relic, all by myself too. I'm playing with full screen effects on and I'm hoping I'll not meet that jump bug in Vilcabamba :D
Trish
06-25-2008, 04:14 PM
Well, I just started the game again. Hopefully that bug was just a PS thing and not a pc thing. I'm right behind you. I am finding out that it the control movements are so diferent from the PS, which is taking me a little longer to learn, but am getting there. Since we are close in the game, maybe we can keep in touch and help each other. It really seems like such a fun game, thus the reason for wanting so bad to continue with it.

I'll be playing Vilcabamba this evening. If I get stuck, I'll holler! It's an awesome game. Have a run around in the gym back at Croft Manor for a while to get the hang of the controls. It doesn't take long to gain some fluency and having that fluency makes a big difference to your enjoyment of the game. It was the new controls that prevented me from enjoying Legend for so long but now that I've got my head round it, I love the new Tomb Raider.

Glad to hear your Vista troubles have been resolved Trish :D Have fun (both you and George), and should you get stuck on the same bit of City of Vilcabamba, you know what to do ;)

Bit of a hold up as my savegames from yesterday didn't work  Only found out after playing the entire Croft Manor this evening. After quitting and trying to start Vilcabamba, all I saw was new game  Sorted now though as (phew) it's a known issue and there is a fix pinned here. It will be tomorrow though before I get into Vilcabamba though.
Hey Spong, good to see you again. I'll be using a few of your screenshots from Anniversary and the first two or three levels should be up in the next few days

You were so right. I did have the same problem with the same jump in the City, but thanks to everyones help, all I had to do was turn the full screen effects off and I sailed right through it. Hope George has the same luck. I do have to say this. The PS version of this game sucks.....Wish I had had the PC game in the first place. From now on, I am looking for the PC game before I spend any money on PS games. Finally, I am a happy gamer!:) :) :) :)

Excellent news Trish , I hope you turned the full-screen effects back on after the jump ;) I don't think there's any other issues caused by that.
And you're right about Anniversary on the PC. I had the PS2 version first as well, but I honestly haven't touched it since I got it for the PC. You should see Legend as well (especially with its "Next-Gen Content") ;)
@George
Hi again. That's good news about the screenshots, I'll keep my eye out on the site over the coming days. And the offer's still open should you want more from any of the other games except AoD (lol), just give me a shout.

This is as good a place to post screenshots as we progress as any, I guess. The first three levels are up at skribblerz with a good mix of Spong's screenshots and mine. I'll be venturing into The Lost Valley tomorrow evening. Can't wait!

Hi Trish, I envy you your warm weather. It's summer here in the Highlands of Scotland but I still have to wear a fleece because it's so cool. I use fraps to take in game screenshots and then go through them and sort out the best ones and touch them up and crop them a bit if they need it.
See you in The Lost Valley tomorrow! :D

Started playing The Lost Valley to have a quick run around before bed and couldn't come out of it until I'd finished it. I've 160 screenshots to sift though between myself and Spong. That'll be fun. I really enjoyed finding a new outfit in Lara's wardrobe back at Croft Manor too. Nice touch Crystal!

I thought some of those shots looked a little rich in colour (unless you haven't touched them, in which case I now look like a prize idiot :D). But they're good pics George
Thanks for sharing the pic of 'classic' Lara too. Hand on heart, I've never changed Lara's costume in Anniversary and that's the first time I've seen a decent pic Crystal's "homage". I bet she doesn't control like classic Lara though :(

George:
I am from Washington State and it does not normally get above around 75-80 degrees in the summer. Right now, it is 90 degrees. Most of us don't have ac because you normally don't need it. :( :( I've reached to point to where I have to start fighting the Raptors. Think I am going to retire for the night and start with these beasts tomorrow

No, you're right on the money Spong, I do colour them in a bit. However, in game, everything does seem to be colour rich and the screenshots do look better on a web site when they're coloured slightly, to me at least. I try not to overdo it though. I'm heading up the hills for a day out, some fresh air and exercise and I'm really looking forward to playing Vilcabamba when I get home. This game is a real classic
Enjoy your warm weather Trish! The sun is out today and it looks as if I might get some colour on my skin out in the hills.

*edit* Actually Spong, I don't add any colour at all, I just increase the contrast a little to bring the inherent colours out a bit. Just thought I'd add that!

Hey Trish,
I haven't played Anniversary yet, but I am a PS2 gamer. Have you tried walking closer to the ledge?
(First forum post of the day!)
Trish
07-11-2008, 09:03 AM
Thanks for the input but this is a backward jump from a ledge to a platform. Just couldn't get it to work. Had to go to the PC version. I am doing well with it. Hope you have better luck than I did with the PS version. I have "Legend" for the PS and I hope I don't have any problems with it,. I want to finish Anniversary before I start "Legend".
