I recall being told once that Nelson and Rodney caused themselves a lot of damage when they fired their main guns. Was that the case with most BB's or does anyone know anything about this:scratch:

Only Nelson and Rodney. Due to their akward design the muzzle blast from C turret had a tendancy to cause such stress it deformed the superstructure. I'm not sure if they ever fixed this. The practice for the Nelsons was generally just to avoid firing all guns at once.

The muzzle blast broke the windows in the superstructure if C turret was fired at an angle of more than 90 degrees from straight ahead. Also the muzzle blast from fireing a broadside would cause damage to the original wooden surfacing on the deck but this was replaced with a stronger kind of wood and the Rodney fired full broadsides against the Bismark without taking damage.
