Keyboard Control Lag on LSW 1

I just bought Lego Star Wars: The Video Game for the PC. We have been playing LSW II for a while now with no issues. What seems to be happening is that the controls are lagging behind about 5 - 10 seconds after being pressed. I have updated the video drivers and will reinstall if need be, but I know my rig is more than powerful enough to run the game.

Any suggestions?

I had this problem a few days ago, and when I decided to monkey around with the game resolution to see what effect it had, my game crashed on me, and repeated to crash from then on. I then decided to change my monitor's resolution to the game resolution, and the game worked again, this time with response time similar to Lego Star Wars II.
