So i have been playing for ages now but one thing i still dont get is the whole rudder and engines damaged thing. Im told that my rudder damaged but can still turn aswell, and im told my engins are out but loose no speed or power?

What am i missing?

Usualy when you get that message you lose power/steering (obviously depending on the message. What could be happening is that it is dammaged, but not completely destroyed if you get what I mean.

or you are lucky and you move your ship right and hits a unimportant part of the ship

I've only had my engines go out once and that was just before my ship sank. as for the rudder I've never had that bother anything.

There never seem to be any effect at all even if there taken out, maybe its just me.

One other thing i want to clear up, fighters carrying bombs do tend to climb slower and last a little less in combat it seem to me. That just me?

And one last thing, is there ever any use to strafing, seems to me i would have been a good move for the programmers to allow you to kill the crew manning the anti aircraft guns, would help out a little with an attack, and im pretty sure it was a common thing to do. Cant imagine lots of high caliber, rapid machine gun fire is of zero threat when on a ship. Big or small ship that stuff flying around bouncing all over the place cant be good...

1. It has effected me and others, maybe they arn't doing a good job at hitting you.

2. That is true.

how about this :
les crew==> slower repairs

like if a ship is almost dead==> almost no repairs

if the rudder was knocked out when you were traveling strait ahead you probably wouldn't notice much. Not sure exactly how realistic the damage is in this game but if the devs decided to nitpick, they could have implemented a slower turn rate or caused you to loose speed in a turn after the rudder is out like what happens when you stear with the engines. Most vessels have atleast propellers, some have 3 4 or even 5.

Strafing a ship (not a AK or any other sort of transport) is used for taking down AA guns. You can destroy the guns (except the heavily armoured ones) and that will help the oncoming allied aircraft or PT boats. Of coarse this only lasts for a short time but it can be worth it.

the AA machine guns are also killed after a shelling fight

I was playing Samar the other day. I heard "Rudder control's gone, sir!" and my turning radius was almost halved. Rudder really does have an effect.

Bomb-laden planes HAVE reduced performance. I've witnessed this myself, most significantly with SBDs.

Sometimes my ship really does stop when my engine goes down. I think it just needs to take a LOT of damage first.

As a general rule, if a cannon has personnel manning it, you can disable it with machine guns. That doesn't include JUST machine guns but also the flak cannons on the Northampton.

The flak cannons on the Fuso can't be disabled, as there's no personnel manning it.

Looking at the Yamato, its machine guns can't be disabled, period.
