If it froze when you pressed done on both copies, then it's your PS2. If not, then it is your copy.

Please tell me exactly what you do in order to make your console freeze. If it is happening at the same place every time, then it is unlikely to be your lens or your copy and may be a bug which needs to be identified so that it can be fixed.

What do you mean by " a bug" do you means there's a problem with my PS2?
I dont actually do anything to MAKE the game freeze, I just go onto map maker as normal and select either change tiles and the when I click done the game comes up with that box thing with a blue line showing its loading/changing the tiles (I checked this at my HMV where they had a demo pod available) and stops right at the start. It also Freezes when I click story mode character and click on one of the options.
I know that this should not happen as like I stated earlier it seemed ok in the demo pod i played, which featured the full game.
Well anyway I hope this will help you find out my problem.
Im also going to be taking TS2 to my local games shop and let me check it out on their PS2 consoles, and if it works there ill buy a PS2 lens cleaner, and if that doesn't work, I guess another PS2.

I thought you might have found a bug in the MapMaker, but it looks like it's a hardware issue on your PS2 (maybe the lens or the disc).
Good luck with fixing this. :)

Hi MMM, on a similar note to the above, I have now created two story mode maps which both break down because of Spawning enemies. The first I abandoned as I hadn't had that much experience of the logic and thought it might have been some faulty logic. My second map is a different story - I still have plenty of memory left on this Industrial map, all the logic works fine and checks out, and I do have spawning enemies on the map (2 single spawners, two spawn and attack). BUT, my first three enemies crashed the map on loading (both preview and play) whenever they are set up. I have since managed to get them on as stationary and patrol types, but any attempt to make any of these three spawn crashes the level on loading. And I'm getting pretty narked off with it. I've tried to get them on in as simple a way as possible, one at a time, spawn on start, etc, but it aint happenin. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Okay, I've been on this thing for a whole day now, trying anything that could work and getting nowhere. I've wiped all the logic, triggers and actions and blanked all the bots, then tried again, putting in five bots in various locations.
The first three bots I put in as stationary, which was okay, but then the next two went in as spawners and it crashed again! And I'm still not using any logic at all!!
At this rate I may have to stop trying Story levels altogether - the frustration factor is way too high...:(

Hu-flamin-rah! Don't know why this works, but I've just rebuilt my level from total scratch by building small sections of the map one at a time and putting in the spawning enemies in twos and threes, with their triggers, until the basic map and bots are complete.
And stone me it works!!!
I am baffled as to what the problem was, because I haven't changed a thing really - maybe it'll all still go pear-shaped when I put the logic in, but at the moment I couldn't be more chuffed.
I haven't seen anyone else on here with the same problems I've had, but if this helps anyone it'll be worth putting it on here to beat the frustration factor alone. :D

This is the best way to build stuff in Story Mode - just build a little bit, test it, and continue until you run out of memory. Try to avoid going too near the memory limit as it is difficult to modify your level if there isn't enough room to delete and add stuff.
Building a little bit and then testing it is good practice for any level building tool including PC based ones. Also, this cannot be emphasised enough: SAVE OFTEN, SEQUENTIALLY! E.g.: Map01, Map02, Map03, etc. This means that you can go back a little bit (if something goes wrong) to an earlier version and not lose hours of work. Generally speaking it is best to save every fifteen minutes minimum.
Also, (final tip), some crashes resolve themselves if you reboot - again this applies to all consoles and PCs and software. It's just a fact of life that resetting the hardware sometimes fixes problems.
Hope this helps. :)

Cheers MMM - figured a lot of this out for myself but its nice to hear it confirmed. The 'problem' doesn't seem to be with spawning only, as after sorting the bots I've still had the odd crash after adding lights and a few objects, but only when doing a lot in one go. Add small amounts then test and save. Yeah.
One other thing - sometimes if the loading screen freezes the level can still appear if you leave it a minute, a bit like some of the levels on TS did.
Now I'm cookin' ;)

i recently had a problem with my ps2 not reading discs at all---they wouldnt even boot up. you should be able to purchase a cleaning disc at any game store. they just run in your drive for a few minutes to do their thing. if that doesnt work (as it wouldnt in my case) youll have to pop open your console and manually clean the laser lens. a light touch with a q-tip will do the trick and it shouldnt take more that 15 minutes to perform the cleaning. dismantling the ps2 is very easy, but if your not confident of your ability to remember how it all goes back together i would suggest not doing it. the hardest part for me was just locating the screws to start taking the casing off. by the way they are under the rubber 'feet' on the bottom of the console. just pop them out to reveal the screw heads. gl.
ps-my system is at peak performance now!

... Argh! Completed the level I was doing, took it round to my mates to try out on him, and as soon as we put it on it refuses to load and starts telling me about corrupted data on the mem. card!
I've never heard of this happening before.
It worked fine a dozen times on mine, and I haven't had this problem before, but some of my mates levels have had the same thing happen... all the time it took me to finish that blasted level and I'm gonna have to rebuild it - again!
