A Little Lesson for EIDOS

Well I'll keep hammering EIDOS with the lack of support and communication as I believe their stubbornness on these issues is "World Class".

So LESS than one month after releasing World In Conflict, there is a patch already out.

They submit a newsletter detailing out their PLANs and intentions, also informing the community about upcoming events. I'm not going to copy the entire e-mail here but here is the headline:

Here are the latest World in Conflict headlines:

- Update #1 Released
- Broadcast Tool Announced
- Gamespot TV Tournament
- Russian Totalwic Premier League (RTPL) Started
- New World in Conflict Films
- Gamespy's Game of the Month - World in Conflict Runner-Up
- World in Conflict Sales

I really believe that this is the way it should be. The PATCH by the way fixes a lot of issues, small and big, improves game performance, etc..


I'm making these notes mostly for one reason: to DEMONSTRATE that what EIDOS is doing with BS:M is WRONG, and what we're asking for as service and support for our money paid is absolutely not outrageous, but more what can be reasonable expected.

Truthfully I think(at least I hope) that Eidos really didn't understand that they were bridging a game between a strategic game and a first person shooter. For BF 2 it was more of a first person shooter with strategy for team play. But it's hard to have strategy or turn base game style game first and play first person shooter. WiC is like that but to me WiC is just another Command & Conquer. I think Eidos will deliver on the next game(I hope). I know some people will of course bi-otch, but I just can't see Eidos abandoning this game so quickly and not have the next game come out better. The only reason I can see Eidos abandoning this game so quickly was the rendering software limited them to update the game the way the community wanted and they went right to the next game to give us something we can play for a few years to come. We'll see :whistle: .

I agree with you Tex.

I gave up on this game a while ago. I will revisit singleplayer every now and then but I don't play multiplayer anymore because of the bugs and the way the servers are set up etc. I look forward to the next release, but I won't be rushing out to buy it unless most of the things the community has been asking for are in the game. Hopefully they will have made enuff money out of WIC to actually put more effort in the BSM2.

I have seen this comment about the "rendering engine" limitation a few times but I'm not sure I have seen it from EIDOS saying officially.
Don't get me wrong: I don't want to deny the right from EIDOS to do whatever they want with the title, but I find it very stubborn and arrogant that they do not communicate about what is going on. For me: even bad news is better than no news.

It might be because from other publishers I have seen so much good quality service that I put the expectation high. Take VALVE for example: they release a small newsflash about what is happening around them every week. AFTER(!) you exit your game on Friday the first time you get a popup (if enabled) with a little story. I guess it does not take a lot of time to do things like this.
Or look at the WiC communication, or many other titles.
In many case DEVs are allowed to run blogs and elaborate on their work.

EIDOS is terribly secretive, beyond comprehension. This is the part I do not get.

My belief is that the game had caught both the devs and publisher by surprise in teh responses and comments. Because of the requests and comments I do believe they are looking at a much richer package with BM2 as indicated by the questions that Kier has posted in both these public forums and the private one.

The reason why I opened this thread is (was) to highlight that everything we say here is pure speculation. Even if EIDOS chooses not to post direct official comments here they have other channels to spread news - that is NOT! happening.

Yeah, they might have been surprised or whatever... let's hope they are not THAT surprised that every single person at EIDOS swallowed their tongues, broke all their fingers so they can't write and type and got completely blind so they can't even blink yes/no to questions and of course become deaf...

It depicts you in the future trying to translate VText but since your text is getting harder to read it seems just the same. The thing I typed translated to:

but a good translator, has to add words, often when a phrase its literally translated it sounds lie VT wrote it :rasp: so you add little words, that dont change the meaning but make it ledge able
