If I start Deus Ex normally, it crashes to the desktop immediately after going full-screen, and gives me the following error message:
General Protection Fault

history: glxDetectOutput <- UGalaxyAudioSubsystem::Init <- UEngine::InitAudio <- UGameEngine::Init <- XGameEngineExt::Init <- DDeusExGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine

If I run the game in safe mode with sound disabled, it works fine.

Here's my DxDiag:

Any help?

Could be the sound driver. Check with the manufacturer to see if there's a newer version.

If there are no newer drivers, you might try setting the compatibility mode to Windows 98 (right click on the shortcut, choose the compatibility tab, set it to Windows 98).

I installed the most recent driver, and it still didn't work.

Tried putting it compatibility mode, and it crashed, but gave me an additional error as well as the usual one:

The instruction at "0x714a39fa" referenced memory at "0x06810048". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program

Yay, I fixed it! Now it runs with sound. :D

What I did was go into Deus Ex\System and mess with the DeusEx.ini file.

Specifically, under [Galaxy.GalaxyAudioSubsystem], I changed "UseDirectSound" to "False", and changed "Use3dHardware" to "True".

Now it works great!
