Hi, just got the game a week ago, alot of fun. Managed to have a few games online, and my god, does it really put me off.
I should explain. So I log onto this Australian server, and playing Operation MI (I think) as the Americans. I have control of the two Airfields, and a carrier. So I'm using my Devastators off the airfield, and because I need a fast turn around due to the amount of fighters around, am Ditching them into enemy carriers and the ocean. All of a Sudden, these guys start swearing at me like I had broken a major rule of combat, or was cheating or something, because I was doing this. We promptly win, and in the lobby afterwards they are still yelling at me (as much as you can over the web).
So was I in the wrong, and there some unwritten internet play rules which say no kamikaze? If so, are there any others of these I might trip up on? IF not, were these guys just being pricks, and should I expect more of this if I keep playing? Cause if so, I can just go back to BF or something?

dude honestly just crash them,
In most cases the time it takes to drop return to base, land, relaunch, and wait for all 3 wings to group together so you can have an effective strike force is way to long. In long battles this can be a very bad idea but sometimes you just have to put more rounds out there immidietely and its the only way to go, if you can try to discreetly get rid of them aka don't crash them into enemy ships and junk.

We promptly win,
thats the aim here! not more!!
if you re new and you win you make a good job ...thats all. and if you crash planes in ships thats also ok. i never (or really rar) return planes to base!
if you think "thats my way to play& the way to win" its ok!

It all depends on the host. I've played in games where the host will announce a no-kamikaze rule w/ a promise to kick ppl, but I noticed he didn't announce it before every game, so new ppl in the room wouldn't have heard it. In this case the host didn't mind crashing them into the ocean but would kick anybody who crashed into a ship.
But honestly tho, that's only like 1 in a 100 games I've played in. Usually ppl just crash planes, so don't worry too much about it.

Personally, as a way to get planes in the air sooner, i think it's fine, because when you do that you're losing out on the planes. It's a risk.
On a map like Operation MI, many people send up nothing but fighters at the start, and wait until the enemy runs out of planes. So if you crash them you're doing them a favour. That might have been why those people were moaning at you perhaps.
What I don't approve of is using kamikaze tactics as a way to dive bomb more accurately.

Play the way you want, don't let the man grind you down.
Kamikaze attacks are by no means an exploit or cheat. If you look at your score, you might notice the game gives you points for kamikaze attacks.
Do what it takes to win. People are always going to complain loudly about losing or just quit. I'm surprised your opponents stuck around long enough to complain. Most people quit the game if they think they're losing.
As far as people setting rules for their servers...what a laugh, how could a host possibly enforce their rules? Kick players? Then you have no one to play with. Fun times.
The rule I always follow on all servers is this:
Kill or be killed.

Wow i havent seen people being kicked for kamikazi for ages.
Personally i dont Kamikaze most my planes, il actually let my torp planes land ,,, wow i know crazy man. Bombers go on Cap. On M1 you can very easy run out of planes, it can pay to save em.
Anyways just wanted to say that never trust Australians there always drunk  , thats right im an australian ooops. But it wernt my server and trust me were not all that harsh down here. So i hope you get a game in soon an see most the BSM community is actually pretty alright.

BTW, EIDOS kinda encourages you to Kamikaze your planes because if you looks closely at you kills and points screen when a match is over, you'll get points for Kamikazing into ships and buildings.
It'll just say:
Kamikaze - X number of points.

yeah about those kami-runs...
it CAN be effectife in short battles like island of solomon bhut in long battles you really need every single plane! (like MI and Coral sea)
and if you do use kami-runs on ships in coral sea or MI you will run out of planes quickly...

How about the planes instead of exploding in midair crash into the water and make a HUGE explosion. Same with DCs.
