Sea Powers - WWII Naval Combat (Text-Based Game)

Yeah. So basically a friend and me made this:

You take command of a Pacific island and buy ships with which to own other peoples' islands. It's still in the Alpha stage, so the functions are currently pretty damn basic, but we've got a LOT of great new features on the drawing boards set to go in sometime soon. It's just a text-based game, so don't expect any graphics. ;)

If you do register, do these things first:
1. Go to the "Shipyard" page and buy as many PT Boats as you can.
2. Go to the "Fleet" page, click on each PT's designation, and set them all to "Defense Fleet" status.
3. Go to the "Profile" page, and set your Region to "Vanuatu". That region currently receives the best economic benefits.
4. Please do us a favor and name your island something believable and not ridiculous. I don't really enjoy cleaning up stupid bull**** from the MySQL database that stores all the information.

Go to the Economics page, and it tells you your island's output in terms of Food production, lumber production, steel/ore, etc.

basicly he said that he made a mistake typing it out and he lost too many subs within 5 minutes in a recon mission and his first PT boat was sunk and he will have enough resouces for a fletcher tommarrow and he won the engagements does that clear it up xgamer?

Fleet configuration is being worked on as we speak. You were seeing the bastardized code I threw in for the time being. :p

VTROOPER, it's a text-based game. Don't expect any combat graphics or anything...

The key to this game is patience. It will take a few days for you to get enough money for a Light Cruiser/Destroyer/Destroyer Escort. You'll lose a lot of engagements if you don't have any defense ships, so I recommend buying PT boats. You just sort of have to wait, just like any text-based game.

You got the password through the email, right?

As for the fleet code, it all works fine. The only configurations you can do is set them at Home Port, Defense or Attack.

The game is nice, but Vanuatu is over-crowded, obviously plundering it's treausres. But just one thing: Is there some sort of device that allows people to know your fleet? I got a Yamato BB many days ago, and that same day, my country was in ruins and everythign was sunk. $90,000, and for what? Now everyone knows I'm here, and every day, many people keep attacking me. I tried smalle with more PT Boats and a Destroyer. Didn't make a ****ing difference. Now I don't know if I should stay or go...

It's not amazing it's annoying. I cleaned up most of the spam in this thread but forgot to remove Colosseum's post which was no longer relevant. It was however unfortunately made relevant again. So stop the spamming & derailing threads or I'm going to have to give out bans.

Why is it annoying?
If a thread goes off the origional topic what does it matter?
All the time there is no abuse or dodgy subjects then the forum should be left well alone.
If you were to give out a few 'bans' for derailing a thread there won't be a bsm community left.
Not sure if you've noticed but it's the same few people posting and if you ban them there'll be no community left on here to here about BSM2.

Off topic can happen in certain situations it's certainly tolerated it's normal that discussions lead to other WWII stuff or other aspects. However still using the most clear example was that a thread about someone having a connection problem turning out in a conversation between mone3 and crazyhorse. The person with the problem would have to wade through 30 + posts nothing to do with it whilst there would be a few others inbetween are. That's not convenient.

A ban isn't always permanent it can be set to a day, few days etc. for slow learners.

I'll be happy to discuss this further in pm if you wish but it would be ironic if I keep derailing this thread.

Just to stir things up I jump in and immediately issue a warn for myself being severely off topic from the get go but I can't help myself noting a few things.

1. In GENERAL on this EIDOS forum many times I find it frustrating at least that discussions divert from it's original subject and very frequently personal "attacks" and exchanges takes over the thread. I guess it is somehow the "culture" of this forum being lightly moderated so we can't help that. This statement is valid for this very thread which just like in many case originated from a great idea and got degraded to a personal fight. Too bad.

2. Murphy says that you should not argue with a "fool" as others might confuse you with him. I'm not trying to make any judgment for the roles here but want to point out that it is an equal responsibility from BOTH sides that the discussion is where it is now.

3. Having learned that on my own experience it's worth to note that the CULTURAL differences between the two sides of the Atlantic are significant and as such the things might look "soft" or "funny" on one side is taken completely differently by the other.
Here there is an Englishman arguing with an American from TEXAS. (if the personal info is accurate). The mindsets and tolerance levels in this case a VERY different. I strongly believe it adds a lot to this "debate".

4. Many times I can't restrain myself so I can understand why it happens but it is VERY BAD when in the heat of the debate one intentionally PROVOKES the other party emotionally. Some are more sensitive to this than other but the best is to remain fact and subject based.

Finally I suggest that regardless of the damage caused / taken up till now it would be beneficial to everyone to settle the case. More importantly do it in a way that there is no ONE "winning" side.
Does not matter if it's formal or informal, public or private just please do it.

And give us an update on this text based game. How is it working out?

often the question asked ie. 'my ships look funny' will be solved within a matter of 2-5 posts, and then all that becomes is either a WW2 discussion or a spam thread. thats why spamming is a problem
