Hi Huntress

I'm not sure where you're up to with developing your web site, but last time I saw it, quite a while ago, you were having hassles with wanting it to display in a special Thiefsie font and it didn't want to work.

I was revising my home page (http://bravus.port5.com, if anyone's interested) this weekend and wanted to do a similar thing with a Celtic font to match the rest of the site. I found the simplest way was to install the font on my own machine, then use it in a graphics editor (I used Paint Shop Pro) to make the headings as graphic images rather than text and insert them that way. This avoids hassles with visitors having or not having particular fonts...

This may be a solution to a long ago solved problem, but I hope it's useful to someone...

See ya,

Bravus

Who's Oavid? ;) :p
Looks good Bravus.

...but you may want to remove a few items off the end of your link in your post... ;)

That's very interesting and I shall make a copy of your suggie later when I'm back on the other puter...presently I've been on the Compaq playing Deus Ex still :) In fact getting ready to lay down for a bit cause I've been up all nite :D Anyway, I haven't done anything since probably the last time you saw it, LOL

I need to update my link to Eidos's Thief forum too! Only thing is, it's on my older puter that I have Netscape on which I used their composer to make the page. I'm not sure really how to appy your remedy although I do have PSP and maybe with some time and efforts I might be able to work it out...but since I use a .bmp as a background (I thinks it's a .bmp, been so long could even be a .jpg?) anyway I'm not sure how to apply a pic on pic...my original thought was to upload the link to the font via FTP and got the download for it but that's as far as it got. :( Don't figure too many ppl will check it out other than our immediate Thief fans :) so I'm not in any hurry and may never happen...but at least I'll change the Thief forum link one of these days soon, I hope! :D

Thank you though for thinking of me and I'll try to catch you later somewhere :) Ta and Good Hunting!

Thanks Rick - I wondered at the time whether the automatic link thingy would be smart enough to avoid including the comma, and obviously it wasn't... It's fixed now. (And yep, I shoulda checked it!)

I worried about the 'O-ness' of that first 'D' as well, but decided people would be able to figure it out... Maybe I could change the title of the first section to 'Introducing David Geelan' just to nail it together...? Nah... ;)

Huntress, yeah, it might be more difficult with a picture background than with my textured one: or at least require a bit more tweaking. But you might be able to add the headings etc straight into the bmp itself...

Anyway, have fun with it if you decide to play. I know the feeling of too much fun to have, too little time - how long has my page needed working over? And it's still mostly just cosmetic...

I should have mentioned that there are a lot of new photos of the family in the Photo Gallery, again only if anyone's interested.

See ya,

Bravus

Another option for displaying fonts on the web is by actually embedding them into your pages. Microsoft has the Web Embedding Fonts Tool (WEFT) (http://www.microsoft.com/typography/web/embedding/weft3/default.htm) for just this purpose.

:D

Hmm, one para from that page worries me though:

The Web Embedding Fonts Tool 'WEFT', lets Web authors create 'font objects' that are linked to their Web pages so that when an Internet Explorer user views the pages they'll see them displayed in the font style contained within the font object. (emphasis added)

Rick might disagree, but there do exist other browsers than IE! Still it's an option..., and thanx for it MsLedd!

Ha, ha Xcom...now your really getting out of my league at least! :D

Yea Bravus...that's an idea...I do know how to put text into my bitmaps...as that's what I did with my Wanted Pic :) Have to give that one a shot ;) Also will check out your Album too.

Also thanks MsLedd for your offering...I'll keep that in mind for another alternative.

The main reason I haven't gone back to it as I haven't been on that other puter much of late. Either use this one I'm now on, which is my newest system generally speaking, or the Compaq which as I've stated has Deus Ex and my Original T2/FM's installations. Since I got my newer system and have T2/FM's on it I don't have a real need to use that one as much either :D Gads, I never thought I'd own and use three computers..but they are all good systems for their purposes and don't want to get rid of any of them at this point in time. No reason to...just wonder what I'm going to do when this one has to be replaced/updated when the new games are released and I won't be able to just nurse it along? The componets in it now are too good not to use at all just as I find my other systems are also still very useful for what I have in them to not use. Really becomes a delimma because I can't get rid of anything that is not broken just for replacements...know what I mean? I live by a simple rule pretty much...Waste Not, Want Not :) But then I'm also running out of room to put them in :D Crazy hobby for sure! Ta and Good Hunting!

Just in case you catch this thread again Bravus...I checked out your Webbie a few minutes ago and I like your color scheme and border...nice looking :) Then I went to album page...that Cassie looks like the Imp of the family :D and Alex a sweet looking girl but I think she takes more after her Daddy in looks...Cassie more of her Mother? Sure have done some changing in the last year!

Thanks for the updates and catch ya later tiger :D Ta and Good Hunting!
