I'm back again......have loaded up the whopping 26 fan missions that have been created since I last departed....
So, anything exciting going on here ?
Make that 27, must be a small one that just downloaded from The Keep.... :)

Not much going on here, as usual. Like you, I come and go every so often too. So where have ya been? Riding motorcycles and getting banged up? :)
Boy, how long has it been since you have been here? A year or two?

There he is again, the die hards just can't stay away. He's been in and out Yubetcha. He resurfaced a year ago, has posted off and on. I'm talking about him like he isn't even here.

/me waves back at Broken, having been in person in Dallas/Ft Worth only 2 times in the past year for a day or two - but I did briefly imbibe at the Harvey Hotel/now the Westin in your honor
I believe I posted last in the January time frame - that would be 2007...so don't write me off as a complete has-been yet.
No motorcycles for me - the horrendous accident taught me a valuable lesson. But still busting clay targets with somewhat regularity...along with ClayBoy. ;)
I'm circling back to getting caught up on all things Thief - I plan to start making some sort of 'memorial old folks run' through the entire gamut of clayman-approved games (meaning T1, T2, T2X, and my top x FMs - no T3!) in the next few weeks.
Glad to see the old guard alive and kicking ! :)

Glad ta see ya again Clayman. :) I also pop in and out when the occasion presents itself so you'll still see my name appear in a thread from time to time here. Nice to hear from you and glad your back in your cloak for awhile. You will be impressed with many of the new Mods that you've dl'd to play, so have fun!
As I mentioned a long time ago, my oldest Son David, is riding. He has a dirt bike and a very nice street bike as well that he rides to work in the Summer. He has a long drive to work and with gas prices so out of reason now...it does help keep that cost down. However, my other Son Gary that still lives with me, also bought a dirt bike last year. Consequently, they ride together on occasion on a dirt track when they can manage to make plans for it. Now here's the kicker...David bought a small bike for his 5 year old Son last Christmas and does pretty well on it, including the whole outfit complete. Needless to say, he just loves it! Sorry I can't give all the details on the various makes, etc. as that stuff is out of my league. LOL
Take care and later. :)

Huntress - Am glad your clan enjoy the bikes...good luck and safe riding to them, for me, never again...too many scars and semi-functioning body parts, ha ! Good to hear from you !
Nightwalker - Now that I know you're still around I'm not worried about searching for help : if I get stuck in any FM, you've been there, done that, and have the "I conquered it" t-shirt. :)
Hey Lazarus....all of us "old" Thieves may have to band together to get a group discount on Geritol and prunes ! :)

Glad to see your return Clayman. I guess it just takes one nasty fall to finally figure out riding the harley is not worth the savings in gas or the wind in ones face.
My husband hit a large dog on his way to work 3 weeks ago. He and the harley went airborn 6-8 feet then the bike landed on hubby's leg resulting in 3fractures, lots of road rash and upper back and neck injuries. The witness said she never thought a harley could fly so high. He had on a full face helmet and leather coat but no gloves so lots of damage there which will scar and of course his knees on down will be scarred. One abrasion nearly went to the bone so they could not put on a cast because of the infections and gravel that continue to be dug out during his wound therapy sessions. He's done with bikes. But not those clays although he cannot shoot anything yet. I don't think his injuries were as severe as yours but even crashing at 30mph will cause a lot of damage to a human body. Killed the dog.

littlek - that is just awful and I hope your husband heals heals up quickly. My best wishes and positive thoughts your way are now officially sent out.
Hope he gets back to clay shooting !
Motorcycling is a risky business, we all knew that going in. Sometimes its not just your cycling skill, or even the awareness of the other person (a big if)...its sometimes is just what happens when you're out there without the 4000 pound insulation of a car.....

Thanks Clayman. Positive thoughts received. He was able to shoot his 410 today. Shot a dismal 19 then a 21 and finally a 24. Came back rather tired but was so happy to be out doing something and that he was able to break a few clays. ;)

Yeah its crazy this game is still going strong. I've been filling my gaming days with WoW mostly, and just started playing TR Anniversary (remake from the first Tomb Raider). Im really hoping they will do the same with Thief 1, a complete remake will modern graphics. I just loaded up T2X as I haven't finished it yet so I'll be popping in and out more frequently. Has there been any other monumentary expansions other than T2X that I dont know about?

Hey everyone, I was going to make a new thread but for some reason it wont let me ... Anyway, I haven't played any if the Thief Series. I was thinking about if I should give it a go coz I like stealth stuff but hate FPS. Is the lastest one good? Or should I go with a previous one? Or do you recommend a few? Is there a whole back story that I should know about?

Welcome to the Crippled Burrick Catty. Watch your valuables in here...errr too late. Already taffed. winks at clayman. To answer your question without hijacking clayman's thread too much, if you can find the games, play em all. Start in numerical order. You'll need help so post often.

How nice to see you Optik45 and Salvage!!! It indeed has been many moons since you've been on the board. Hope you've been keeping up with the newer mods that have been released over the last several months. Some very goods ones to keep your sneaking skills up to par. :)
Catty...I also extend a hello to you and encourage you as well as wishing you good luck in finding some of the early Thief series. Thief...The Dark Portal was first followed by Thief Gold, which improved the original version plus added three more maps. The second is Thief...The Metal Age...there was a re-released combo of the first two but didn't include Thief Gold as I recall. There was also a large patch released for Thief (2) bringing it up to ver. 1.18. Make sure you get and apply it. Later after you've played (whatever you can find) a program named "Darkloader" was created to load and make FM's available to play through Thief's engine. There are also three files to get and replace in the Thief's 2 Directory that are necessary for some of the later Mods (FM"s). I only say this to give you a heads-up so you can do some further research on these subjects.
The last Thief game made is called Thief...The Dark Shadows (or T3 for short). It was not made in the traditional gameplay that was in the others and so for that reason several of us either would not get it or was somewhat disappointed with the way it was done. Some others did like it but mostly not enough to play it more than once, whereas many of us replay the first ones over and over just for the pure enjoyment they give us and the unique gameplay they offered. :) If you should get this one and want to eventually play some of the FM's that have now been created for it...you need a different Loader named "Garrettloader" which will also accomodate the other Thief games but since I don't have this game...I stick with "Darkloader", etc.
You can get some other info at Komag's place...shown above or TTLG's site/forum's for additional resources. Their forum is a very active one for help whereas this one has been very quiet for quite awhile. Nightwalker is a Moderator over there and was one here a long time ago but still comes here on occasion to check things out. Good Luck and hope you get to Thieving soon!!! ;)

Wow, thanks for the info!
So what goes on in these games? Your missions are to steal stuff? or is there some plot that the protagonist has to uncover? What kind of problems have to be solved?
Huntress
06-20-2007, 09:46 AM
Well Catty there's much to do in the Thief games...yes there's stealing and finding secrets, which may contain extra loot, tools or secret passages, but also there is a story to uncover which starts with T1 and continues thru T2 and somewhat into T3 and a conclusion of sorts. There were a couple of demo's released for the first two and also T3 (it requires a better system to play) and you can check those out via specs required, etc.
If you can, try the demo's out and get a little taste of the gameplay. Regardless, they are played with much patience and planning as well as much searching. Your prime goal is to be as stealthy as possible and only use force as necessary. Blackjacking, is a good weapon but you do get broadhead arrows for special needs and/or a sword for other special uses...heh :D There are other special arrows to help you get around and some other weaponry as well. I won't go into all this as you will find out as you play the game(s). There are some puzzels to solve and depending on what difficulty well get more or fewer hints what to do.
So get the game(s) and play to find out all the enjoyment of a true stealth game with the object of avoiding conflict rather than looking for it! :)

Huntress, you were off on the names, I think. :P
The first was called Thief: The Dark Project, the second (as you said) was Thief II: The Metal Age, and the third was Thief: Deadly Shadows. There was also a re-release of TDP, it fixed a bunch of bugs and added more content (it was called Thief Gold).
The copies of T1 & T2 I got in 2002 or something died a while ago, so I bought the double pack from SoldOut software.

Yes you are quite correct..Project ILO Portal. :D and the Third game...Deadly Shadows ILO Dark Shadows...blame it on my almost 70 year old mind..LOL

Oh, don't worry, if I can't get it legit, then I don't get it at all. If everyone only stole games, then we'd soon have no one making them!

Just be aware...ppl will make copies and you won't know it till you get it, especially on Ebay or any auction type site. Just make sure of your source, etc. Have you had any luck yet otherwise? Let us know how your doing. :)

Oh yeah, I made that mistake once because I bought some games at a pc market and they were a little cheaper, but not rediculously cheap, so I thought that they were legit, plus they had the correct boxes on display ... anyway, I got them home and the first one was a busted copy that wouldn't work, and I looked at the disk closer, and I could tell the printing was a little too shoddy for my liking, then the other game, I realised when I put the disk in, that it was a cracked version ... I didn't even look at th other one, I just threw them out, and felt annoyed with myself for not paying enough attention because I should have known better.
The people selling them had a big stall and all their stuff proudly displayed - they obviously weren't concerned about being caught! Sad, huh?
I've been busy lately, so I haven't had a good look.
