Do plants spread on their own?

Will a biodeck get any new plants if you fire all your karmaramas? I tried to see if my deck would grow any new plants on its own, and none seemed to come out in the hour or so I waited. I had a deck full of plants in rows, to see if rogue plants would sprout outside the rows, and nada.

Guess I'll have to keep the karmarama employees around after my bio decks get started. I suppose once its fully planted, theres no reason to keep moer than a few to replace occasionally harvested ones.

Seeds planted near existing plants have a better chance of success. You still need Karmaramans to plant the seeds. That why planting is really difficult at the start of the mission, but a living bio-deck will seem to never run out of life, no matter how quickly you harvest.
